ARE ELECTIONS BAD FOR DEMOCRACY?
In my personal opinion, no elections are not bad for democracy. By far, elections are the most convenient way to ensure democracy. Here the question arises, What is this so called democracy? Democracy as defined by the Oxford Dictionary "is a system in which the government of a country is elected by the people" the definition itself shows the interrelation between the two terms "democracy" and "election" and shows there co- dependency with each other. Democracy, in simple words, means rule by the people. Elections promote democracy as in general elections candidates are elected from the respective societies, areas, cities and states who come together to form a government that ensures representation of different groups of people in the Parliament. For a diverse country, like India, elections are the only way to reduce the cultural, religious, economic differences between the people and to give them proper representation without disturbing their personal beliefs. So yes, election are necessary for democracy.
