This is it. The moment you’ve all been waiting for- the first step towards unlocking what is yours.

After a two hour trip by ferry, you arrive at Misty Island- a large, dense island, one that you would have pegged as isolated if you weren’t aware of Pandora’s use for it.

Its forest is thick, and you’re certain that you would have gotten lost in it if not for your guide and reporter. It is the same brown-haired woman you’d seen on the news before. She warns you to be careful; the jungle is filled with beasts, and they aren’t friendly.

It takes you about forty-five minutes to reach your destination on foot:

A vast, dilapidated temple that is made of crumbling stone. Its structure is tall and far-reaching, and you recognize it as the building you had seen from miles away while you were on the ferry. 

The woman turns to face you and the rest of the participants. The cameras start to roll and she straightens her collar. It is time.

“Good morning to all of you!” she begins. “As promised, we are here to witness a monumental event of many more to come, and it begins right here, right in front of this ancient temple. 

“The contestants are ready to go, so I’ll be quick. In front of the temple is a platform, where survival backpacks and weapons are provided for each and every one of them. At the sound of my whistle, all contestants are to rush forward and grab their backpacks and weapons. Be quick now; once you have them, it doesn’t mean your opponents aren’t allowed to snatch them from you.

“The rules of this game are simple. All you have to do is to get through the obstacles and reach the middle of the maze inside of the building. Those who accomplish this will be awarded points that will bring them closer to what used to be theirs. Your journey in there should take a week.

“Food supplies will be dropped in once on a daily basis for each team by our helpful bots right here.” Round, red-lensed robots about the size of a person’s head. They hover several feet above everyone else. “These will film and broadcast your progress to the rest of Pendulum too.

“That aside, this challenge is a free-for-all event. You are free to kill, injure or sabotage your opponents- there are no bars set here.

“However, you must work with your partner, so whatever misgivings you have about them, set that pettiness aside. Those who don’t follow this rule will be disqualified.

“That is it. Best of luck to all of you!”

“Good morning, everyone! I’m here to bring you exciting news. Remember that tidbit our esteemed leader shared with you not too long ago? Well, here’s to the start of the second event.

"On an island that is not too far from here, Pandora has opened a special facility that will host the first challenge of its kind in our world- one that many of you have been waiting for, I’m sure.

“This competition is designed to test your skills and intelligence in a harsh environment, something that many of you are familiar with, but don’t dismiss this just yet, because the reward will interest you.

“And that is because those who manage to complete the challenge will receive points. Once you’ve collected enough points, be it your powers, weapons or armour, you will receive a portion of it back. Exciting, no? Consider it a gift out of the goodness of our leader’s heart.

“Sign ups are open for all ages; those who sign up will be put in a team of two. However, we do not recommend those who are too young or have difficulties of any kind to join. If you’d like to enter our little game, then please give us a call.

”Deadline to sign up is at 9pm on May 15th (Timezone:Selangor, Malaysia). Till then!”

As per usual, there is a crackle of electricity before the screen of every device in Pendulum focuses, but this time, it is an entirely different woman who greets you.

“Good morning, everyone! I hope you’re up to catch this announcement, because the much awaited Cherry Blossom Festival is here! But this time, with an interesting twist.”

She smiles, and continues;

“We are holding it at the same time as the Kanamara Matsuri (Festival of the Steel Phallus) and we welcome all those who are interested to visit Park Center.

“You can bet your bottom yen that these festivals will be worth your while. The cherry blossoms are in full bloom, and tables and empty spaces are allocated for your viewing and eating pleasure. The park will be filled with food, drink, games and souvenir vendors, and so much more. If you’re lucky, you’ll spot a couple of phallic mascots in the vicinity too!

“The festivals will begin from 10am to 5pm. The Kanamara Matsuri parade will start at 12:30pm. I assure you, that will be quite a sight, so be sure not to miss out!”

The display screen of every communications medium flickers, and soon sharpens. Televisions, cellular devices, tablets- they all feature the same red-haired woman who had greeted everyone upon their arrival at Pendulum.

“Good morning,” she says. “It has been some time, hasn’t it? I’m here to inform you to expect quite the news piece in the near future. It is something I gather holds monumental meaning to each and every single one of you, so keep a close eye for my next announcement.

“But in the nearer future, please look forward to the coming Spring celebrations. Pendulum has a lot to offer, so they mustn’t be missed.

“Till next then. Have a pleasant day.”

It’s that time of year again, and I say, doesn’t the city look especially good today? Sure, it’s still a bit chilly, but it’s the snow that makes things look incredibly picturesque, don’t you think?

The streets and buildings are delicately dusted with powder white, flowers can be found just about everywhere and ah of course, happy couples are abound! Last but not least, the pleasing scent of chocolate can be detected. That’s right, it’s Valentine’s Day.

Valentine’s Day just isn’t complete without its signature honmei-choco and giri-choco.

So if there is a loved one you have in mind that you’d like to give flowers and or baked goods to, why not give the following numbers a try?

Roses are Red: For flowers, be sure to give Roses are Red a ring, because they’ve got an exquisite variety that will cater to all. Don’t turn your nose up at this, it’s now perfectly acceptable for men to receive flowers!

Mei Teahouse: An absolute must, you should contact Mei Teahouse for chocolates for your men. If you’d prefer to give them something else, then why not request for cakes or brownies instead?

Both businesses will deliver; just provide them cash the name and address of the recipient and you’re good to go.
