So! Here is some background information for anyone (updated for Dawntrail!):
Wawasei Wasei is a lalafell daughter of a wealthy merchant from Ul’dah. Yes she is a lalafell and not a true goblin. Sorry to disappoint.
Goblins refer to her by the name they gave her: Peddlestox Shinyrocks. When speaking she does the same as she’s rather quickly finding out that it sounds wrong to use her Given Name (Wawasei) or her Nickname (Kwas).
She is 23 years old.
She is NOT a battler. She is a crafter. Her primary professions are jewelcrafting (GSM), woodworking (CRP), and sewing (WVR). (She’ll not be making any armor/weapons, not even robes)
She does now have a pictomancer brush and can use pictomancy though it is more akin to flinging paint in someone’s eyes as a distraction so she can run with her tiny legs than actual combat ability
She is still a runaway from her parents. They caught her once (almost twice) and have not given up just yet. (They want to set her up into an arranged marriage and she wants nothing to do with it.)
She wears a goblin mask and does use gobbiespeak. The mask is a gift from the gobbies after having lived with them under their protection and trading with them for a year or so, and came with her goblin name. Gobbiespeak is something she’s picked up and kept up.
She is good friends with most beast tribes (I say most because she hasn’t met them all just yet!). Aside from goblins, she has met and dealt with:

Note: Kwas is autistic. She has been pegged as neurodivergent for the longest time mostly because as a writer who originally was suspecting to be autistic themselves, I did not want to make a character who was one and accidentally misrepresent and/or offend people.
Rest assured if it matters to you I have had my diagnosis (I am AuDHD) and feel confident enough to put her as an autistic character. I have done research, and I have my own experiences to draw upon. With that said there is one thing I want to make crystal clear:
I have enough issues with Kwas being child coded as a lalafell. Her being childish and her gobbiespeak does not mean I am infantalizing autism. Gobbiespeak is what both Goblins and Moblins in FFXIV use and thus will be canon for the character. I’m not going to stop her speaking that way because of someone else’s insecurities. Which children’s cartoon would they get obsessed with?
Ever heard of Miffy? Kwas would absolutely adore the character and show (and all the books!!!!). Miffy to her would be like Hello Kitty to me (she'd also adore Hello Kitty but that's besides the point).
If they have a set of keys do they have key charms? Is there anything sentimental? If they don't have a key chain, what would be on it if they had one?
If Kwas had a set of keys she would have a few key charms. Miffy would be one and Cinnamoroll. And a mandragora of choice (she'd find it hard to choose over the Queen, Knight or Kidragora).
Her fears of really tall people. Kwas is short. No getting around that. And people she has to look up, up to, intimidate her. Most of the time its not that bad (and she tends to have breaks in between seeing them) but there are a few days where its too much.
She also has fears of ghosts, voidsent, anything supernatural or horror. She deals with enough monsters on the daily, she can see as she travels. She wants nothing to do with something she can neither see nor do anything about should they decide to haunt her.
Darkness is also one. She doesn't like being in the dark where she can't see and sounds seem so loud and everything looks like it's moving. As long as she has a light (even moonlight) she's fine.
Jokes about taking the wording literally aside, Kwas would acutally like throw pillows provided they're shaped as animals and can double as a stuffy. Otherwise she doesn't see the point in them.
That said, she does make some on occasion. Her favorite ones to make are ones she knits/crochets and puts the stuffing inside so she can make pretty patterns with it.
Embroidering them though? She will either tell you no, refer you to someone else, or charge double because she hates doing it.

While there is alot I can splurge on my gobbiefel, I figure I'd talk about her autism and what things she (and also I) do (totally making a list that I can refer back to). Starting with -
Stims
Handflapping - Kwas does this more than I do and mostly when she's happy/excited.
Staring at rotating objects - ME. Kwas may if she has something that's rotating but currently she has no fan or twirling object
Rocking - Kwas' floor sit animation is this. I like rocking but I don't have a place to do it.
Listening/Singing to the same song over and over - rip Koana I can literally listen to the same song for 3 days in a row before I get tired of it (if I ever do). Kwas can do the same and usually hums it to herself.
Movement in general - I like pacing if I can. Or I'll tap my fingers (or play with my stim toy that's keyboard keys). Both of Kwas' sits are like this. I think she'd also subconciously sway.
Echolalia - I think this counts? Aside from common Gob-phrases, she has taken ones from the other beastfolk (mostly "yes, yes" from the Namazu)
Chewing - I did this mostly when I was younger. If I had known chewlery was a thing as a kid I'd have demanded one.
Special Interests
Kwas' is of course gems, stones, jewelry crafting. She and Feldspar-mun @loldragoon-ffxiv could talk for hours I bet. Stuffies. Beast tribes I think would also be there, especially the Goblins. I'd like to find more things in the world she'd be interested in.
Me on the other hand - writing is probably mine. But I also like tarot cards, incense, candles, also stuffies. I used to be really into animals, Kingdom Hearts. Not so much now.
Socializing
Typical stuff you'd think of: hard time reading body language/facial expressions, dial up processing speech, taking things literally, sarcasm some times doesn't click.
Kwas prefers conversing with people who have animal-like ears and tails because they are great indicators of how the person's emotions are over their facial expressions.
Masking
Kwas of course hides behind goblin speech, mannerisms, and looks. I haven't thought of what her masking would have been like before she met the goblins, or during, but likely she would practice her speech, try to be expressive and not ready to speak at 20 malms a minute about a craft she should have no knowledge of.
I am actually in the process of demasking. But I stopped trying to talk to my classmates about things I was interested in. I don't think it was because I was teased about it (entirely) and more just embarassed. By highschool I pretty much started pulling away and sat by myself. This was also around the time I started getting depressed. Most of my desire to write came from this era, and I did try to use that as a form of "something is wrong" and of course no one took it seriously. /rolls eyes
Sensory Issues
Bright lights, loud noises. Solution 9 is a nightmare. Certain smells (Kwas can filter that out with the mask; I can't -_-"). Textures of food (nothing mushy).
Neither of us like being touched much unless we initiate it. Kwas will usually reach out her hand first for this reason. But when it comes to things like hugs and such we prefer them to be firm and not feathery. Feels like something is crawling. Ugh.
I've found I don't like touching anything that is wet. Dampness is fine. I also like some strong smells (lavender, earthy tones, musk) and will burn incense or candles to get it. (I also like the smell of laundry detergent.) TAGS ARE AN ABOMINATION AND DESERVE TO BE REMOVED FROM CLOTHES FOR-EV-ER.
Kwas isn't a fan of sour stuffs and prefers her veggies and fruits to be crisp or crunchy. She'll make an exception for rolanberries.
Repetition
Aside from listening to the same song on repeat, we also can eat the same thing several days in a row. I in fact had a bologna sandwich (nothing else but meat and white bread) for lunch starting ~kindergarten to last day of HS. No joke. I may have had a few things different here and there but it was mostly that (my literal bread and butter bologna).
Kwas can probably live off of twilight pretzels and various fruits. Doma has given her a taste of rice (not a fan of the sticky kind, but fried rice and flavored rice - as long as its not sweet - is doable) and Tuliyollal has not left her unscathed as she does eat tacos (depending on the filling). Thavnair's cuisine was too spicy (I like the heat but not like that).
Random Stuff That Doesn't Have a Category? Sure
I occasionally walk on my tip toes. Usually subconciously. Dinosaur arms have also become a more frequent thing.
Kwas I feel like over time she'd become more selectively mute. Not because she doesn't want to speak or communicate but just... How to explain.
You know when your family member or partner or friend are in the same room with you and you're both just existing in the same space in quiet and just having companionship? That's kinda what she'd be wanting with her silence.
I use fidgets more than Kwas would (probably because I haven't seen a single fidget toy she'd use or an Ethyris mock up).

Do they have any pets? If not, is there a reason why and/or do they want one? If so, what are/would be their names and how were they adopted? (Fish, insects, and wild animals that frequent their living situation count as pets for this)
YES.
So, the longest in her line of pets is her chocobo Lapis. Much like any other owner be they adventurer or merchant, she acquired him for her travels and picked him specifically because he did not hesitate to kick, peck or bite (she needs a chocobo who'll not hesitate to put up a fight due to how dangerous the roads can be).
A good chunk of her minions were left behind in Eorzea because they couldn't all come (and some didn't want to go on a boat ride) but several did come with her.
There is Stix, her wind-up goblin, and Stox her wind-up qirin. These two mammets are how Kwas keeps herself sane during her day to day life: making sure she keeps up on chores, eats, being a chronometer etc. The two were originally plushes she had and she turned them into mammets out of a spur of the moment idea.
Quartz is her sponge-silkie who she found alone and brought home because he had none. Similarily, Puni the petite-punutiy was also brought home because he had none. Kwas tends to pick up cute things.
Perry the tapir was a gift to ward off nightmares and terrors, and seems to be doing a fantastic job of it since.
Snowdrox was a Heavensturn gift that she couldn't say no to.
And last but certainly not least is Hazelle the nutkin. This little one followed Kwas home and has stayed due to the abundance of nuts and fruits. Around Starlight she'll dawn a Saint's Hat.
The abundance of mim-mims came about as Kwas' original incarnation (D&D) had a rat named Briz for company.
I'm sure in the future there'll be more little pets she'll be picking up because they're cute or needing a home. Its a wonder she doesn't have a petshop at this point.
Is your OC comfortable in the higher echelons of society, such as aristocratic functions or assemblies of the rich and powerful? Or do they prefer to avoid these events if possible?
Kwas is not comfortable with high society. That said, she does come from it, of a sort. Her parents are of a high standing in Ul'dah and often held or go to functions, bringing their daughter with them.
Kwas could look the part but always had trouble when it came to speaking. She wasn't interested in the gossip the other children or adults were talking about. She certainly wasn't as verbose as they were, generally sticking to more simple words. And all the mind games the nobility were playing went right over her head.
These days she can and does avoid events like these.
How do they react to small inconveniences like losing their keys, dropping their toast on the floor, running out of butter?
I had to think on this one a bit.
Kwas is intended to be an autistic character, so by virtue of that these can easily be led to meltdowns, shutdowns, day ruined.
That being said, that feels kinda like a cop out? Using myself as an example it takes a lot of little things adding up. So... kinda unsure what to put.
But if I had to think on it, on a good day she'll chalk it up to bad luck if she's dropped something and if she's misplaced something (which shouldn't have moved cause she put it where she wanted it >.<) she and her mammets would search for it. It's usually a short look.
If it's a bad day, she'll be a bit bummed out. And if the item misplaced is something important she'll not stop looking for it in a frenzy panic until she's found it. Then move it to a better, safer, spot.
Did you create your OC with a plan to ship them with a specific character or another OC? Or was their relationship something that evolved all by itself?
Nope. Kwas was created for the simple enjoyment of having her again, this time in a new place where I could flesh her out. Since her creation I had tried to think of many NPCs (in FFXIV and elsewhere) to put her with but none of them sparked her interest until Koana.
Were there any barriers to you establishing your OCs relationship? Perhaps social or cultural stigma? Or a concern that "ships" with that character were already overdone? Or simply a fear of being seen as "cringe"? If so then how did you overcome this?
I wouldn't call them barriers, but there were some things that made me hesitant to do shipping with Kwas.
First and foremost is the community's general disdain for lalafell being in relationships. Despite many in-game depictions clearly stating that lalafells (though they look childish) are not children, too many people are very quick to pull the plug on anything that isn't childlike whimsy. Especially if you go to pair the lalafell with a non-lalafellin character (or the reverse, where your OC is "normal" but they're in love with a lalafell).
Second, the typical BS about shipping with a canon character. I don't even bother acknowledging these, because shipping with an NPC in this fandom is the norm. I haven't had issues in the RP spaces (but I also tend to keep such things vague /shrug).
Add into my idea of Kwas being a neurodivergent in a relationship with a neurotypical (and all the flags I need to be aware of to be a pillar of representation and not a caricature/stereotype) and I was almost unwilling to dive into it.
What made me change my mind? A few things. Number one, Kwas and her ship make me happy. For all that I find romance as a genre to be overly sappy and unpleasant to read or watch, actually writing it can be fun. There is still that little girl who fell in love with fairy tales of princes and princesses and True Love™ and Kwas lets me explore that.
Second is my own journey of being a late diagnosed AuDHD person. I feel a lot more comfortable portraying a supposed autistic character when I myself am on the spectrum. Kwas' journey is going to be rather unrealistic but that's kind of the intention, at least in FFXIV. This is the fairy tale romance character. While realism is going to have a touch on it its not the lens I'm using and arguably shouldn't use for the genre I am writing.
And well, part of the writing process is to make mistakes and revise it. You live and learn, and you can't learn if you don't live.
How important is your OCs relationship(s) to their story? Would it still make sense without it? Or is their connection to this other character integral to their development?
Kwas' is pretty important to her story as this will be the turning point of her demasking. Literally and figuratively.
The goblin mask is not just a physical mask she is hiding behind. Its also her masking some of her autistic traits. Her getting into a relationship with Koana will be the start of her discovering she's different, its okay to be different, and she doesn't need to be one of the gobbie or mobbiefolk for people to accept her for who she is. Because at the end of the day, she's still hiding the real Kwasei. Because in her mind she can't be Kwasei. She can only be Wawasei or Peddlestox, and of the two, she'd rather be "the strange lalafell/milala pretending to be a goblin/moblin" than "the lalafellin wife of a merchant who hides away from the world".
Could I have done this with her family? Oh absolutely. And they will be a part of this as well. But since the oppertunity presented itself (and I decided I wanted to make my life harder than it needs to be) I want to try to tackle the ups and downs of being in a relationship when you're neurodivergent with a person who's neurotypical. Both sides of it as well. I don't know if it'll be good. I've never done this before (and I've also not been in a relationship since being diagnosed) but I'd like to try.
Do they like their own appearance, and what do they do, if anything, to alter it in any way?
Nope. Part of the reason why she wears the goblin mask is to hide. For a good chunk of her childhood years she was called a goblin or that she looked like a goblin (so they were the first people she ran to when she ran away) so she hides away.
She never got into makeup so she's unaware that she could maybe cover up her freckles and dark spots that way. And by this point she probably wouldn't think it worth the effort.

Is there an outfit or item of clothing that your OC likes to wear, despite the best efforts and complaints of those around them? What do others object to about this item? Is it worn? Unfashionable? Or simply inappropriate?
To the exasperation and confusing of many Kwas generally does not take off the goblin mask, no matter how much it may clash with the outfit she is currently wearing.
Its a point of pride for her, being so honored as to acquire one from the goblins themselves and its a cherished item from the people she learned the most from in her early adulthood.
Others find it strange. She's not a goblin/moblin. She has no reason for wearing their mask, as she has no problems breathing and to most people's knowledge she has no scars or disfigurations to hide.
Many have tried to tell her to stop wearing it; she ignores them. Time goes on and people just learn to deal with it if they have need of her services.
Has your OC ever been invited (or just decided) to wear something from a completely different culture? How comfortable did they feel about this? How did other people react? Did they enjoy it?
Wanting to blend in a bit more, Kwas did eventually get a few clothing items to match the locals more. I don't think anyone was surprised by it, given that it was long enough into her stay that they started to think of her as another Turalian.
...If Koana has been looking in her direction more often the days she does wear them, she hasn't noticed.
How important is it to your OC that a prospective partner is of the same social class or level of wealth?
Its important to Kwas mostly because it can reflect badly on her partner of choice, otherwise she wouldn't care.
With the matches her parents were trying to give her, her fiances would be about the same social class but have more wealth (for a bride price) so she wasn't too concerned. She knew she'd have to look and act the part of an Ul'dahn aristocrat but her standing was already considered.
If she had chosen to marry "below her class" I don't think she'd have cared. She'd rather be happy with a poorer suitor than miserable with a wealthy one. And given that she has lived in that situation for a little while, she would be more than comfortable with it.
Koana... being who he is Kwas would be very concerned on his behalf. Even if she took into account her status in Ul'dah it wouldn't quite match that of one who's essentially a City-State leader (though her parents would be THRILLED). And that's not taking into account how his people would take it.
She's very knowledgable on the politics of Ul'dah. She knows next to nothing about how it works in Tural. Were this Eorzea she may have an idea of how it would be received. Here though, her Eorzean status means fairly little. She's no princess nor foreign diplomat or any equivilant. (And even if she was she ran away from that.) And as she is in the dark about all of it, she'd only have her own parallels to make, and it doesn't look fairly good the more she thinks about it.
Did your OC have a sheltered upbringing? Did anyone educate them about sex and relationships? Or were such things not discussed? If their family did not give them this information then how did they find out?
So part of the reason why Kwas did not want her arranged marriage is due to the gossip she was given about intimate relationships between a lalafell and a roedagyn. And needless to say (given that the children in question were bullying here) she was not all too happy to learn anything about it.
This also had the added consequence that that was how she learned what sex was before her mother could give her The Talk. Kwas would've been happy to have remained blissfully ignorant.
However, it did get her thinking about what she would want in a relationship. And she came to the realization she just wants another person to cuddle with rather than have children with.
Is your OC particularly knowledgeable about matters of the flesh? Are they easily shocked or scandalised? Or are there relatively few fetishes, positions, or unusual uses of implements of which they have not heard - or possibly even attempted?
Kwas knows about the chocobos and the bees. She does not, however, have extensive knowledge about carnal desires. And given that she's ace, she'd have 0 interest in it.
I'm not sure if she would be disgusted with some of the stuff out there. She would certainly be shocked and in some cases a bit terrified with what it entails (BDSM).

Has your OC ever experienced a dramatic change in their personal wealth or financial security? Were their family once very poor or very wealthy compared to others in their society? If they were once wealthy and are now impoverished, then who do they blame for their reduced circumstances? If they were once poor and now find themselves wealthy, to what do they credit this change in fortune?
Yes. Kwas came from a very well off family before she ran away with the Goblins. She thought far enough ahead to take some gil with her, but it wasn't exactly enough to live off of. So she did start over with essentially nothing.
The Goblins taught her a lot. How to travel, who to travel with. Which routes are safe and guarded. Which ones are to be avoided, either due to biased guards or general danger. Where to find and which is safe in regards to eating from wild fruits/mushrooms. How and who to trade with. How to make good deals and live on a budget.
And she used that knowledge to start her own business whilst hiding underneath her parent's noses.
She's not nearly as wealthy as she was before she left home, but its more than enough for her to have a roof over her head, food on the table, and extra to spend on frivilous things for herself.
