Tears were running down your face much like how the snow fell onto the ground beneath your feet. Having your heart torn into two was painful enough, but having it stamped on the night before Christmas just added a mound of salt to the wound. You had always thought you and Johnny would last, between his endearing nature and your attentiveness, it just seemed right, but then again most things feel right before something comes to ruin it.

A bench covered in a clean blanket of snow was calling your name and so you sat there, not caring how soaked your jeans would be, and just cried harder. Thinking back on everything and letting everything out into the cold winter night.

It had been a few months since you and Johnny had broke up and you were feeling fine. Of course the occasional thought of him would cross your mind but now instead of crying, you would smile and think about the memories of him. Daffodils and the smell of april showers had become an ever present stay this spring and oh how you loved it. The new term had started and you had already bumped into him a couple times and while you avoided speaking, or even looking at him, you would miss the way he would glance at you. the way he would turn to look back at you as you went on your way to the library.

He missed you. He fucked up but god did he miss having you around. He missed your laugh, your voice, he missed those mundane moments where he would realise how lucky he was to even know you and be able to call you his.

Summer couldn't have come any sooner. Exams had completely drained you and because of this, one of your friends suggested having a picnic in the park which you happily agreed to. And so you found yourself on a perfect day day in the park, munching on strawberries and grapes having a good laugh with your friends.

Unbeknownst to you, Johnny and a few of his friends had decided to come for a hangout of their own. As they made their way onto the grass claiming a spot near your group, you locked eyes for a moment, and just smiled at each other. You felt more at peace with yourself and being near him. Johnny still loved you though and he still very much regretted letting you go but he would take what he could and so your smile made him beam.

Between the two groups there were many mutual connections and so within the ten minutes of them arriving and constant calling to each other, Johnny and his friends made their way to join your, now very crowded, picnic blanket. An hour had gone by, stolen looks between you and Johnny going unnoticed by your friends. Another hour and you had moved to sit next to Johnny, just wanting to catch up. You forgot how many butterflies he gave you, how much he made you smile but you were keeping your guard up. Having your heart broken was one thing but falling in love with the person that did it was another thing entirely.

During your joint picnic both parties felt like taking a trip to the beach and so you split into different cars and drove down, where you were greeted by friends or your friends. The sun had just set, the sky was still tinted with pinks and oranges and a bonfire had been started. A few of the boys had gone out to get alcohol and so a party had indeed started. You took a seat beside the fire with a drink of sorts in your hand. You were always up for a good party but you were feeling pretty exhausted and the only thing on your mind was getting into bed and waking up at midday. The sand beside your hand shift and you could feel someone sat next to you and to your surprise it was Johnny. A smile made its way onto your face as you began chatting to him. You really had missed talking to him and it felt as though you hadn't even broken up in the first place.

Autumn had arrived within a blink of an eye with orange and yellow leaves now carpeting parts of the pavement. It was a tradition of yours to take walks during the season. It wasn't too hot, wasn't too cold, and you weren't usually swamped with assignments so it was perfect. The crunch of leaves had always been one of your favourite sounds, it was calming to you.

This Wednesday walk was especially good for this as you visited a local park. For some reason they had the crunchiest, crisp sounding leaves. An hour into your stroll and you had bumped into a very familiar face. Johnny was sat on a bench, a cup of what you assumed to be coffee was in his hand and he was looking out into the field where dogs ran free.

Taking a seat on the bench you struck up a conversation and talked about anything and everything. Uni work, aliens and coffee along with a whole variety of things occupied the conversation and as the time went by, you eventually grew to sit closer, lean on his arm and once he placed his hand on top of yours the fireworks went boom.

Hand in hand he walked you back to your dorm, the sun being replaced by the moon and a thousand twinkling stars. With every step you took with him, every laugh you let out you felt more and more at home, the feelings of anger you held towards him last winter had all faded. You felt as though you were falling in love all over again, and maybe you shouldn't be. Maybe you should be more cautious. But you couldn't help yourself when he made you feel like you're the only one he wants to be with.

No matter how many times you experience it, the chilly winter breeze always catches you off guard. Exam season was just around the corner and Johnny had texted you to meet him in front of a cafe and so with a small skip in your step, you began the trek there. To say he was nervous was an understatement. He knew how much he did wrong by you, how much regret he had since but somewhere inside his mind there was a small spec of hope. Hope you would say yes and take him back, for you to be his again and for him to be yours.

As you rounded the corner there you saw Johnny which instantly put a smile onto your face. With no thought, you started running towards him and as he turned to you, he caught you into a bear hug, and what you swear was a light kiss to the top of your head. He held you for a moment, he was too scared to let go, while you were still scared to admit you had fallen back in love with him.

Eventually you pulled away and on went your little coffee date. Fairy lights hung around the room, plants decorated the corners and shelves around the room and snow had just begun to fall. Everything felt perfect. That evening you went to bed with a smile on your face. You recalled back to earlier in the day. Johnny had your hands in his, and with a hint of nervousness in his voice, asked if he could be yours. In that moment you didn't need to think, you let your heart take over and said yes.
