Charlie Chaplin was banned from returning to the United States in 1952 due to intense scrutiny over his political beliefs supporting freedom (and against Nazi fascism) during the Republican McCarthyism Red Scare. Charlie was informed that he could only re-enter if he underwent an immigration inquiry regarding his moral and political character.

After the Hollywood icon, who had been traveling abroad in Europe, was not allowed to return to the United States, he settled in Switzerland. Charlie was eventually permitted to come back home on April 2, 1972, to receive an honorary Oscar.

I find it interesting that the very things that President Kennedy was saying in the early 1960's are basically the same exact same things we have been saying since 2015-16. Yet should anyone say or wear anything with the words "Make America Great Again", there are people ready to fight you, call you extreme names, treat you like you are worse than dog sh!t.
