“That’s a really hard question. My immediate responses would be Sahar, Ivy, Elvie, Angel, and of course Marnie. Sahar, because she took me when I had nothing but my company, I’ve known her better than I’ve known myself sometimes. Our moms were best friends, and we followed suit, she’s even letting me stay with her. I’d absolutely be lost without that girl, and no matter what other people may say about her, I love her to bits and pieces. Ivy, she started out as a buisness partner, and she grew to be so much more. She actually believes in me, yes me, the lady with all the crazy ideas to take townsend to the top. Did you see what he wore today? Absolutely atrocious. Where do I even start with Angel? He’s my bud, he’s helped me through so much more than he realizes. Although we don’t talk as often, I still consider him one of my best friends, aside from Sahar he’s one of the few people who reached out to me when I got out of rehab. And when I did talk to him about it, he understood you know? And I guess that’s what started this whole bond. And finally, Marnie. Say what you want about her, she’s one of the sweetest human beings on this entire earth. She puts so much love into everything, even when she’s angry, she has this passion behind it, ya know? I probably sound like a crazy person, but I love her a lot, and not only that! But she gives me wonderful advice all of the time, and we have a road trip planned together, which I’m more than excited about. I know it seems like quite a few people to consider my ‘best friends’ but that’s not all they are to me. When I was young I lost everyone I cared about, my entire family, and even though no one will ever replace them, those five people on this list? They come pretty damn close.”

“you want me to style elvin who?” she asked, penelope was of course dressed to the nines in townsend’s newest business collection. she’d seen photos of him on twitter maybe once or twice before, his fashion was abysmal, and even that would be an understatement. “the streamy’s are tomorrow, though if you client is really as fashion impaired as you say he is, i can have something by tonight.” penny loved a challenge, and as his management walked out, they sent him in. penny stood up to greet him properly holding out her hand, “penelope townsend, but you may call me penny. i’ll be your stylist for today.” penny always acted more formal than she should, she looked him up and down, orange shirt, purple pants, and green socks. penny could almost feel herself getting sick to her stomach, “i see i wasn’t lied to when i was told the only salvageable part of you would be your hair.” she tried to hide the fact that she thought his outfit was horrendous, “now follow me, we have a lot of work to do.”

now one year later, after penny’s outfit was a success, elvie’s management had hired her to become elvie’s stylist, event after event penelope perfected the craft of dressing elvie. through all of the long nights, tailoring sessions, and sarcastic tweets, they’d actually managed to become friends. “sup nerd.” penny says without glancing up from her computer, she already knows it’s elvie. maybe it’s by the horror movie shirt he’s wearing, or the way he drags his feet when he walks, but she knows it’s him. “i love that horrendous outfit you’ve got on.” penny teases, it was an unspoken rule they had that penny was just allowed to call him out on his fashion sense. “things are really coming full circle, huh?” she says with a small smile, “a year ago you were nominated for a streamy and had no fashion taste, now you’re nominated for a streamy award and still have no fashion taste.” elvie was probably the only person who could handle all the snarky remarks that came with being penny’s friend. finally penny got up from her desk, “you act like you haven’t been in here a million times, chop chop, i’ve gotta tailor you.”

elvie trusts his management team. they’ve never steered him wrong before, but hiring a stylist seemed…weird and not really necessary. surely no one cares about how he’s dressed? the majority of his clothes eventually wind up being worn during investigations anyway, which is essentially a death sentence for anything susceptible to staining or collecting a layer of dust that’ll never come off. he likes quirky shirts and wearing his favorite colors — two things he speculated the stylist would immediately discourage. his guess was spot on, if the look on her face as she studied his casual outfit was anything to go by. “huh? oh, uh…” she worked fast. “okay.” tripping over himself a little but obeying nonetheless, elvie followed the stylist who had yet to actually introduce herself.

as it turned out, her name was penelope townsend and now one year later they’re actually friends. she still dresses him for major events and calls out his outlandish ensembles in lieu of more socially acceptable greetings. it’s a quirk he appreciates despite rolling his eyes as he flops into a chair in front of her desk. “thanks. i picked it out specifically because i knew how much you would love it.” not true, but a standard jab lacking any genuine malice. “you know,” he began with a sigh, standing from his chair and beginning to follow penny, “it’s sorta funny. the last year has been my least active on youtube ever since i started my channel, but the streamys have never seemed more in love with me. think the internet’s trying to steal me back from netflix?” he wondered conversationally, shrugging out of his jacket before penny could instruct him to do so.

to an outsider looking in, it might be presumed that the pair couldn’t stand each other. but it was actually quite the opposite for penny, despite his fashion taste, and the silly insults that lacked any intent of malice, she actually really enjoyed elvie’s company. as he flops down she shoots him a small smile, which is followed by a roll of her eyes, “it’s been a year and you still don’t know my fashion taste, now that’s what i call tragic.” to the people at penny’s company her words may seem harsh, but the were quite the opposite, merely playful banter with a friend than anything. “maybe your youtube fans miss you and your failed fashion attempts.” she only teases the last part, as she begins tailoring him. “so what’s been going on?” she asks in an attempt to make conversation, penny was usually so busy with work she wasn’t up to date with anything.

penelope was always happy to spend time with ivy. it was one of the few times she didn’t have to act like she did in the office, she could just be herself. not penelope the ceo, but penelope the person. “i could only look better than you in my vy, which is funny considering you look better in my designs than i do.” she said merely teasing the other. “if i know you, you’ll be caught up in no time.” she says taking a sip of her coffee. “but a vacation? what i wouldn’t give for one of those.” she said with a small laugh before continuing, “it probably doesn’t count but i did go on a business trip to florence recently, had to check that the townsend brand is still holding strong in our international market.” penny always shared these kinds of things with ivy, she was a big investor in her company, and penny always wanted to reassure that she was managing to keep her business afloat. “i forgot you’re married now! consider this my belated congratulations.” she says with a small smile, listening to her next question. “well i moved in with sahar recently, and i got to new styling clients, but other than that? my life’s been pretty bland.” penny says casually with a small shrug. “no silly. the new line i told you about, it’s cheesy but it’s called poision ivy.” penny giggles at her own cheesy joke pulling out a white gift bag with the words ‘townsend & co’ on the side, “figured it’d be suiting if you were the first to try it.”

“you are ridiculous, lovebug.” she chuckles, shaking her head at the other. the pet name for her friend just spilling out of her mouth without much effort. it’s just what she would call her sometimes. “i’m gonna be spending the rest of my life telling you you’re just as gorgeous as me, if not more.” ivy pretends to dust off her shoulder, jokingly, “but you this white blazer you designed really looks good on me.” she nods, listening to the other speak. she’d just checked on the florence total sales for the company just a few hours ago. still, better than ever. “florence? why didn’t you invite me! sahar and i went a few months ago. it was a blast.” ivy wouldn’t have invested had she not been totally confident in the conpany’s success. that was something her dad taught her. now, he probably would side against her putting money into a business ran by her close friend, since they run the risk of mixing business with friendship. but, ivy never totally abides by his warnings anyways. “thanks. have you met river? you should, i think you’d love him.” she asks. ivy sits up straighter at the mention of sahar along with penelope’s career thriving, she couldn’t be more elated to hear that. “oooh!! noo way! you and sahar moved into together? i have to come over tonight.” she cheers. ivy brings a hand over her mouth, a small gasp escaping her at the surprise. she was so busy, she’d nearly forgotten she’d told her about the line. “that’s not cheesy. i love it.” the ceo reaches for the bag on the table, peaking inside. “aw, penelope… i love you.”
