degree of westernization of the clothes of the various melkarthians word vomit
karathqel: very westernized formal, casual not so much, i don't think they're importing a lot of casual stuff from europeans doing it in western formats so they wouldn't just be economically swamped into switching
qeltramarr: formal westernized but not to the same extent as karathqel, in my head you see a mix of more western and more traditional though full traditional is uncommon. also qelmarrti (this applies to karathqel too) traditional has european flavor to begin with lol one of the reasons they're their own ethnicity is that they spoke to them more than the other ohbqoahirri (on top of being quirky already). casual less westernized. they still make a distinction between traditional and "normal" clothes though. notably, again for both them and karathqel though more for them, it's not odd for women to wear formerly male exclusive styles. the products of qeltramarr's factories almost certainly include textiles which is why i mentioned that i don't think there would be an economic reason to switch she still makes her own clothes
fauchaïtie: N/A they are already european. however they are also the resident Clothes Guy of thoth and what they wear will influence what the other melkarthians wear. in my head it's more integrating specific elements into existing formats than copying the entire format though, like qeltramarr pulling up with a veil tie dyed at the end instead of the usual printed or (machine) embroidered designs, so i didn't mention them when thinking about the others just assume their influence is there in all the clothes they like to wear daily
maryohmo: so this mostly depends on if makamazuh did sartorial reform. the empires to whom theyre compared in their reactions to europe (china and persia) both eventually did so in an attempt to regain prestige so i *think* makamazuh would have at some point before 1910. then again that shit takes a while to fully permeate society. i think i can say the government and military (which will include mary's commanders) switched, as well as some upper class men, but essentially no women had and you would rarely see a suit outside the cities. because of how militarized mary is i imagine those uniforms would have a great influence on civilian clothing and they'd therefore wear more western stuff than makamazuh in the modern day as a natural consequence, but i could also see their commanders specifically continue trying to get them to change? i don't know if they care that much. this also becomes related to how mary feels about being ohbqoahirri. i Don't Know. i'm making ohbqoahirri clothes look nice specifically because i want her specifically to wear them and i would like there to be many situations in which she would wear them
eninurria: so they're definitely keeping stuff as cold weather gear parka style because it works better than anything the southerners can come up with. i think the leaders of the ueniorre independence movement under makamazuh would have adopted western clothes in an effort to be taken seriously but many would have switched back after the independence war when being taken seriously was no longer a problem and now you're thinking about identity building. i don't think there's too much direct western influence. you'll see people wearing other stuff, especially in summer there might be qelmarrti and ohbqoahirri styles, but mostly they continue as they had
ahkanishia: same deal with the independence thing as eninurria and same deal with the militarization as mary. nuzudalban *is* next door and they don't like each other but they're still trading i think and nuzudalban's own clothes are mixed european-ahumfoshay (jacket over sarong style except replace sarong with appropriate ahumfoshay word for traditional male bottom covering) so they might be getting western stuff through that. it's possible they were top down compelled to switch after independence like mary as a modernization or differentiation thing but i don't know, is the pressure great enough to do that when the european empires are gone?
i obviously like to lean towards them keeping their old clothes because, you know, i design those clothes and i find them more aesthetically pleasing than clothes i hadn't designed. i don't have a coherent systematic way of deciding who gets what and how reform happens the way you can have a coherent way of deciding what climate zones go where there is no tutorial there is random shit swimming around in my head and i don't really trust any of my judgements except the ones about the qelmarrti because tiff literally told me that was the case and eninurria keeping their most practical gear because i know that is how it almost always happens in cold climates
especially i don't know if qeltramarr's nature would have prevented cheap tshirt influx and if makamazuh would have tried to switch at all
