A small detail from the manga: when Qifrey is in the healing spire after getting injured in Romonon, Coco wants to make an "ever-flowing icepack", and when she imagines giving it to Qifrey to help him in his recovery, she imagines him with his glasses on.

But then, a little later, when Olruggio goes back on his guard by Qifrey's bedside, Qifrey has his glasses off, of course, but the icepack is already there. We can suppose Coco has already started her tests with it.

He even confirms that Coco did try, more than once, to give it to him, but Qifrey reacted while unconscious, so she kept trying to improve her spell. Which means that a few times at least, she approached close enough to his face while his glasses weren't on, and thus the opacating spell that hides his missing eye wasn't active.

Yet, it's only at this point where she learns, from Beldaruit, that Qifrey is missing an eye.

Which makes me think that Olruggio was present all the times Coco tried using the icepack, and had carefully made sure Qifrey's hair was covering the scar over his right eye. He may be furious at him for the secrets he kept and for rushing into danger (and he even has a couple moments of criticizing the subjects he teaches), but he'll be damned if he doesn't respect Qifrey's right for privacy when it comes to that.
