 Redlining.
Suburbanization
the advent of automobiles
Federal policyÂ
During this time period suburbanization was taking place and a few things were at work that kept blacks and other minorities from accessing wealth. From which owning a home in this time period whites were able to hoard generational wealth and were incentivized to own a home because of the tax write offs. Many of the federal aid provided went to constructing newer homes in the suburbs because of migration of blacks and immigrants to urban areas. Even if migration was only assumed and not realized, whites moved to the suburbs. Urban Renewal or as Timuel Black would say âNegro Removalâ cities had given Eminent Domain to Landlords to remove their residents as long as the Landlord was properly compensated. Urban areas were largely black, as America had a declining immigrant population because this era immigrants were restricted to their county because of geopolitical conditions and coming out of the depression, immigrant policy was halted https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/our-history/overview-of-agency-history/post-war-years#:~:text=Reforming%20Immigration%20Policy&text=The%201952%20law%20removed%20all,retained%20the%20national%20origins%20quotas.
Also with the advent of automobiles whites were able to move to the suburbs were the newer homes were being built, and access to those suburbs was via highways and expressways placed right over impoverished areas with a high population of blacks and/or migrants. During this time period around 1945 people had been rationing their consumption and saving their monies at around 21%, and buy the wars end they were able to buy homes and appliances, cars and the such. Again, blacks were not able to enjoy these lavish luxuries, because of racist policy and redlining happening in this era. https://www.history.com/news/post-world-war-ii-boom-economyÂ
Redlining was purely racist and was adopted by the FHA from HOLC, who had constructed the Residential Survey map which served as a guideline of places to avoid for realtors and potential home owners, but also a tool of where to invest federal money. It was an assault on black wealth from many different industries, construction, realty, government aid, small business ownership, housing market. It also served as a social identifier as to whom was not worthy of respect, and dignity.

Housing Injustice and Disinvestment
This weekâs reading by Kenneth Jackson summarized how the FHA adopted the racist policies and the racist mapping of the cities from the HOLC called Residential Security Maps. These maps would map out where declining neighborhoods were located and would be a potential risk for pay back or were largely black or minority and so the FHA would not lend to these sections of the map. This helps to define why certain cities are literal ghost towns right now, but they had begun to look this way in the 70s and 80s and only got worse over time. Place like Detroit and Flint Michigan, Englewood, Chicago are shells of what they were in the 80s and 90s. Neighborhoods are vacant, grass if overgrown, broken windows in old industrial buildings, breeding ground for drug use and violent crime. America built the ghetto, white flight and Suburbia intentionally and now cities are begging for people to patronize local businesses and downtown city centers.
FHA decided to only lend to upper middle to affluent classes because its job was never to encourage movement into urban centers but to encourage home building and job growth. As stated in the reading FHA homes were more desirable and a large share went to building new homes in the suburbs. Unfortunately, that translated to only benefitting white homeowners and disinvestment in city centers. The Red mark also discouraged people from opening businesses and contractors from taking work in the urban centers as well. Whole industries avoided BIPOC areas and created the abandonment we see today.
How do You feel? Im tired
Reading response: This country was literally ripped from the Natives and the infrastructure and accumulated wealth was acquired through stolen labor, largely Black and then handed to whites. I just... am reminded how insidious the discrimination is and how the blame is placed on us for slums and violence, when in fact, it's all manufactured to a certain extent. Our stories are largely ignored until a white researcher or documentarian tells history 20, 30, 40 years later, when the damage is already done. Im really struggling with the idea of redlining and displacement, but so many other issues arise from these racist policies and actions. Poverty, Slums, Community, Disinvestment, White Flight and Substandard Housing, Chronic Illness etc. The trauma is compounded and persists for way too long! At this point, I have a lump in my throat and would like to rip this digital screen to shreds. Insert pic of Blue Monday by Annie Lee of Wendell Phillips HS. http://www.artzofculturez.com/2016/03/its-never-to-late-to-purse-career-in.html

Arg. I hate that I let myself get excited when I apply to a job that Iâm super-qualified for⌠I never get picked for an interview.
Iâm never someoneâs cousinâs boyfriend.
Also, Iâm waiting for my rejection to come back from publisher 1 so that I can send the book to publisher 2 before they close...
I sympathize except I never feel good enough when I actually get a position worth having... #career "unemployedstruggle  #meaningoflife

This is Frank Morrisonâs âGoldie Locksâ in its entirety. I love this piece so much, and it bothered me that it was circulating incomplete.
This is me, alone. Don't judge me, I be gettin' it.

I have this thing for minimalist eclectic home design, I love classic looks, but to be eclectic is everything to me. Or is that just what people who are hard up say when they don't have money for a full living room set?? Either way it allows you to be free and create your own look.
I hate when there is no visual stimulation or your not inspired by anything when you walk into a room. I have an affinity for vintage and rustic pieces of furniture as well. I should also mention I hate things that overwhelming match, like beige couch and tan carpet, and brown curtains YUCK!!
I'm not all that creative but I can copy something or I can be given an idea and run with it to recreate.
I am currently working on my own apartment to make it into something I can be inspired by when I come home.
I encourage you to create your very own oasis that you come home too for rest and relaxation.
Can I start off my saying I am not here to offend anyone?Â
I have a dilemma. I am looking to join a new congregation. I am not looking for the traditional black church that seem to be stuck in the Negro Spiritual state of mind, period! But one that has grown with changing times and has contemporary programs and can incorporate the daily struggle in diverse ways that speak to my heart. Donât get me wrong here. I appreciate the traditional churches, but donât you think itâs time for something new and that God has to meet the contemporaries as well? Iâm not saying God changes but the time has. Â We are out of slavery and some, not all have become well-educated and need deeper understandings and/or practical ways to live our lives.
My heart is in complete disarray because of my newly acquired information about politics of the church and how the motives of people are in the wrong place.

Anywho I donât plan to stop serving God in my personal life but in a corporate manner I need to find a place to worship, serve, make Godly friends and get prayer when needed and grow. I am just not finding many in Minnesota but I know a few and just have to pray about this.
Pray for me folks and I will do the same.
