Baby Luffy and Dragon thats all
One of my favorite things about one piece is Zoro and Sanji's dynamic. "You mean when they bicker?" Oddly enough, no. I mean when they agree with each other. Specially early pre timeskip when they were the more mature members of the crew. Having Sanji agree with Nami or Zoro agree with Luffy is normal, but because they constantly fight, agreements between each other become something rare and nice to see every once in a while.
One of the biggest cases of this is Luffy and Usopp's fight (yall just wait till I reach water 7 again, I've been itching to tall about their fight). Despite everything, Usopp and Luffy were still 17 and with Robin not present, Sanji and Zoro were the most mature and the oldest in the group. So much so that Sanji interfered when Luffy was about to say something very stupid. Zoro may be heartless or cold or anything they want to call him but that's because he is far more logical than sentimental which makes him able to see situations more cleary than if feelings were involved. Sanji understands this, and despite also understanding Nami and Chopper's desperation because of what was happening, Sanji needed to agree with Zoro. In general, when it comes to more serious topics they stand together in their points.
Apart from serious things like this, I think it's also cool when they set their differences aside and have each other's back in fights without the bickering. It is rare for them to fight together without a bit of bickering but I really appreciate it when it happens
Don't get me wrong tho, I loveeee when they fight with each other cuz they're dumb and hot headed too. I love their dynamic in general. But everyone talks about how they fight and fight and fight and no one talks about when they aren't fighting but just... talking normally.
One of my favorite scenes of them isn't necessarily anything I mentioned before but rather a really minor scene back when Arlong was defeated and the Cocoyasi villagers threw a party that lasted 3 days. Sanji saw Zoro drinking in some corner and sat down with him to smoke and they were simply chatting and there's no bickering or fighting or insults. In fact, Sanji starts by saying it's nice to have someone cook for him instead once in a while and then asks how Zoro's wound is doing and after being met with something like "as long as I got food and booze it'll heal in no time" Sanji replies with "that's really good" with a smile and they proceed to talk about how long the party is lasting.
They're just two crewmates talking about whatever. I absolutely adore moments like that.
roronoa zoro is the epitome of “to be love is to be changed” bc not only did he go from a lone wolf to a pack animal w a crew he cared deeply for, but in shellstown he tells luffy ‘if I have to abandon my dream for ANY reason I’ll make u disembowel yourself’
to tell kuma what’s the point of my ambition if I can’t save my captain?
to setting aside his pride and begging on his hands and knees for mihawk to train him, who looks at him and says
bc even just months into knowing luffy something had become very clear……. he would not be reaching his dream without luffy by his side. not because he couldn’t, but because he didn’t want to
fucks me up to think about how sabo doesn't think of the mera-mera fruit as his fruit, his ability. it's always ace's. it's always ace. literally ace himself, living on in his own brother. in sabo's body, scarred by fire, empty of memory until ace's death. as if waiting.

Luffy is so silly but baby Luffy is so serious. Baby Luffy is like the kitten who thinks of murder all day.
Anyway I'm imagining Luffy getting hit by some kind of deaging whammy and the rest of the crew have to babysit him and they're like ok this won't be too hard Luffy is already pretty childish so this won't be a big change. And then they are just constantly holding him back from stabbing people.
Considering how young Luffy was when it happened, you think he kind of forgot what Sabo looked like, what Sabo sounded like, what Sabo felt like?
And as he saw him again in Dressrosa, his eyes bulged out of their sockets, because the long faded features snapped back into focus. That top hat belonged to only one person. That confident gait and manner of speaking fit only one person.
And so, suddenly, there was a sting from the moment Sabo died, and then from when Ace died, and he was all alone in the world, the only remaining brother. But then Sabo was alive and suddenly Luffy remembered the long buried memories of childhood, filled with hunts and fights and brothers and laughter and joy. Oh so much joy.
Sabo was alive.
And for just a moment, Ace was alive too.

Garp: The system is broken and can’t be fixed, but I’m already stuck inside it, so I will dedicate my life to keeping as many people from dying in its name as I can.
Dragon: The system is rigged and must be dismantled, its foundations torn up, and its perpetuators held accountable so that something better can be built with the good of all in mind.
Luffy: The system is meaningless because free will is inherent to all living creatures and no amount of violence or suppression can take that truth away.
Sometimes I like to imagine Ace, Sabo, and Luffy ending up on the same crew and how ridiculously hectic that would be AHAHA
Luffy constantly saying "who put you in charge?" when, in fact, he and Sabo voted for Ace to be the captain
Ace needing to chase Luffy around the entire ship- MANY LAPS- before finally being able to give him a solid slap on the head
Sabo seeming so nonchalant but the brothers know better than to fuck with him when he's in a bad mood. He is a SNAPPER. He will SWING!!
But when they fight together it's truly unfair to their enemies. They've fought together for years ever since being children- they know each other's habits like the back of their hand. They bounce off of each other and always have each other covered. Enemies never have the CHANCE to find a blind spot when these three fight together. With the way they act on a daily basis, nobody could fathom the idea that they are capable of fighting without proper verbal communication.
There were endless opportunities that could have been explored with these three.. Too bad we got stuck with the tragedy. (oooooh bars)
((Now let's imagine Law meeting these three at once.. Poor guy would have the worst migraine ever..))

Do you ever think about how Loved Ace is?
And I don't just mean the Tens of Thousands of Men and Women who called him their brother, who went to War with the Government with the full knowledge they were walking into a trap, or the father who took him in and looked at all the parts Ace called hidious and loved him openly, who's mark he tattooed on his back, who he turned back to Hell for, or the grandfather who hid him from the Government, or the mother who went against nature to destroy her body to hold him for 20 months so he could be born safe, or the father that went out of his way to get assistance from the last person anyone would expect to hide him or the child of an emperor who was waiting for his return or the little sister who believed he would save her or the brother that grieved him so hard he went into a coma over his death or the brother who stormed a prison alone and gave up over ten years of his lifespan to keep fighting, who fought through an army and his own grandfather and who held him close and refused to believe he died in front of him
I mean the Fans.
The fans who mourned him. The fans who write stories upon stories where they go out of their way to save him. Dozens of stories where we get to let him know we love him. Hundreds of Thousands of fans who make art and rewrites to hold him and tell him he is loved. Who bend over backwards to make up ways he lives to know. To know he is Loved.
Do you ever think about how Loved Portgas D. Ace Is?
People understandably get mad at Garp for not fighting to save Ace, but I think many fail to understand how big of a deal it is that Garp threw this fight with Luffy.
Garp is a symbol just as much as Roger was a symbol. He's the marine's hero, the righteous Fist of Justice. And unlike Luffy who mostly ignores what other people say about him, Garp has accepted the burden of being a figurehead. Look at how dark the shading is in the second to last panel. The marines have lost something in this moment. By choosing his grandsons over his personal code Garp has lost something.
In the world of One Piece chasing your dream and living a life without regrets is the best thing a person can do, even if it might otherwise make them kind of a shitty person. In the narrative, characters like Yasopp and Olvia are never chastised for choosing their ambition over their families, even when it costs their children great pain.
The opposite is happening here. Garp is torn between his duty and his family and in this moment chooses his family. And he falls, never to regain the previous height of his ambition.

I’ve been thinking about Law and his reunion with Luffy on Punk Hazard and how he looks so ridiculously horrified at the Strawhat Pirates’ general silliness and it occurred to me. that Law had literally no way to anticipate that.
Consider Law’s perspective: you see a guy in the paper with a “D” in his name and decide to keep an eye on him because that initial is something you also have and someone saved your life because of it (we know Cora saved Law because he loved him, but if Law’s conversation with Sengoku reveals anything it’s this fixation on “D” as the source of Cora’s love) and this guy, Monkey D. Luffy, keeps doing wild crazy shit. His bounty is raised to 100,000 for no stated reason, he declares war on the World Government.
Then. The first time you meet this guy in person, he punches a Celestial Dragon. If you are Law you can now conclude this guy is insane. However, Luffy doesn’t come across as impulsive in this scene: he immediately states that he understands the consequences and chose to do it anyway. Luffy in this scene is crazy but he’s also all business. Then Law gets to fight side-by-side with Luffy and conclude that his powers are also ridiculous and probably leaves with the impression that Luffy is a pretty genial guy who nonetheless Gets Down To Business when needed. The next time Law meets Luffy, Luffy is literally dying on his operating table and then when he wakes up he’s suicidal.
In conclusion: Law had no reason to expect All That from Luffy. He knew the whole “D will bring a storm” and Luffy lined up with that expectation right up until his crew started tying Chopper to Law’s hat.
Thus the horrified face.

you ever think about how luffy tried to give himself a scar like shanks but ended up giving himself one like garp. something about senseless violence and what it turns you into, idk. something about the cycle of abuse and conformity that shanks saved him from.
Writing and characterizing Luffy is really just trying to decide the ratios between
- Luffy pretending to be stupid to put someone at ease or make them lower their guard
- Luffy pretending to be stupid because there’s complicated political shit happening that he can’t be bothered to deal with and he wants someone else to do the thinking for him
- Luffy seemingly pretending to be stupid so he can drop some insane brilliant iconic move only what actually happened was that the genius solution to the problem seemed so obvious and straightforward to him that he didn’t bother to explain it to anybody because he honestly didn’t think he had to
- Luffy seeming stupid because he has a very clear understanding of the power scale, potential risks, and capability of his crew, and he knows for a fact they can handle just about anything so he doesn’t need to pay attention too all the warnings and the planning and the whatever. Teehee gum gum go boing because Taking Fights Seriously is for people who can’t dog walk warlords
- And Luffy genuinely sincerely just being extremely fucking stupid.
