The #Panjshir Valley, three hours north of #Kabul, #Afghanistan. One of the only regions in the entire #country to have held off the various assaults on it’s #autonomy since the #Soviet #invasion of #1979. The #Panjshiris are famous for determined defense of their pristine #valley, the virtually impenetrable #mountains either side and for Ahmad Shah #Massoud who led the Panjshiri resistance against the Soviets, against #Pakistani proxies in the civil war, the #Taliban and Al #Qaeda - who would ultimately assassinate him the day before the twin towers were felled in New York City in 2001.
