Athena loved it when he smiled; she knew it was a reaction not many people could pull from him, or the demon, and it made her proud. Not to mention in sent her heart in a dangerous pace, addictive, pure adrenaline rush. At first she thought it was just her cat. Cats tend to fixate on one person and get attached to them. But it was more than that and the day Athena realized it she remember being sat on her bed staring at the man deeply asleep beside her, peacefully breathing. The man whose inner demon was now stealing a kiss from her with little to no care about the people around them at her shop. Athena didn’t mind the audience, she never did, but Nahuel was more reserved and she’d learn to respect that. Minor touching was vital, the more intimate stuff she could wait until they were alone to share.
He was beautiful. No, he was beyond beautiful, that man was a masterpiece. If everyone else was staring, Athena wouldn’t care. She’d be proud. It was her hand he was holding and both her faerie and feline sides loved knowing that. Squeezing his hand lightly when she felt the tender touch, Tea just nodded in response, knowing it was important to him finding out about the supernatural world by himself instead of begging the demon to share knowledge. “See where I got the sniffing from?” Athena mocked, the memory of their first encounter still fresh in her memory. “She’s got a better nose than mine, always had.” Ingrid spoke, pointing at her granddaughter, and her eyes went wide at the mention of the demon’s name. Looking at Athena for a moment, the woman mirrored the younger one’s smirk, one eyebrow arched as she looked back at Nahuel. “Of course she wouldn’t go for any demon either. It’s nice to meet you too, Azazel.” Ingrid bowed her head politely and Athena rolled her eyes, glancing at Nahuel and pinching his thigh playfully.
“Which one is yours?” Ingrid asked Athena and she tilted her head lightly, turning to Nahuel and intertwining their fingers as he searched for her hand. “Both, I guess?” She offered him with a gentle shrug. They hadn’t spoke of that yet and she doubted the demon would ever want to do so, but since both men had been sharing her, it felt like the most logical answer. “And which one of you is his?” The elder woman asked and Athena froze, her eyes turning white as she stared at her grandmother for a while and the woman took a step back, lips parting but no words coming out. Underneath the counter, Athena squeezed Nahuel’s hand tightly, hearing his knuckles crack and letting go when Ingrid nodded a silent agreement to her. “Let him ask the question, grandma.” Athena’s voice was deep for a moment and she took a deep breath, quietly leaning against Nahuel’s body and resting her head on his shoulder. The woman smiled at the man again and tapped her long fingernails on the counter top. “I take it you’re curious about fae folk, huh? Books don’t do us justice, you do well to come to us. What do you wish to know?”
Being praised as a demon was definitely feeding Azazel’s ego, not that it needed much petting further to what he already got from Athena at the moment, but Nahuel allowed him the odd moment or to, he definitely wasn’t going to object to Patch playing nice, that was for sure. Still focused on the petite older lady who had sniffed him, the demon’s eyes once again flickered darkness as she acknowledged the infamous name that had struck fear into hearts for centuries, his bright smile only widened, “A pleasure I’m sure, Ingrid.” The well-spoken demon crooned before rolling his eyes and allowing Nahuel to once again take control. It was exhausting, to say the least, the fight of it all, even when Patch was behaving it still took effort to switch from one mind set to the other. He grunted quietly and pinched the bridge of his nose, just in time to hear Ingrid’s questioning of which of the two entities belong to his faerie. “She does have surprising control over it, we are both lucky to know her.” He allowed the comment to pass through his lips, a lighter, polite smile in place of the smug grin he held before.
The strange encounter that seemed to happen confused Nahuel, more so than usual as his lips parted similar to the older faeries own. He glanced down at the hand that cracked beneath Athena’s touch, eyes narrowing before he returned his gaze to her, eyebrows creasing into one another, though he didn’t voice his confusion. Patch believed Tea when she informed him of her darker nature but to see such a change in her personality so quickly, only to have her finding comfort in him a fraction of a moment later was another thing entirely. Fascination danced across his features briefly before he looked back up to Ingrid, his smile all but disappearing. “I’m curious about life, I’ve only been around for… well, it’s difficult sharing a body with something as egotistical as a demon, it only let me see so much over the years. But supernatural things are definitely the most fascinating. I know very little, only what Athena has shown me.”

I actually have that [”May my success be the success of humanity”] tattooed on me as a reminder and as a responsibility for my life. I think that ties into “do what you can where you are.” I believe that if you can find a way that your success is the success for mankind… I just think that’s one of the most beautiful revelations.

Leaping from her stool, Athena trotted her way to Nahuel, allowing her feline nature to guide her actions. His sight instantly made her pupil grow wide, his scent burned her nostrils and her lungs and every inch of her reacted to the two-nature man in front of her, pushing a cat-like grin from her lips and erasing everyone and everything from their surroundings. “Gatto.” She purred, holding on to his biceps and rubbing her nose on his jaw and his neck as she curled up inside his big, strong arms. She could heard her grandmother’s chuckle and couldn’t care less. The cat got what the cat wanted. “Demon.” Whispering in his ear, Athena gently nibbled on the earlobe and then pulled back, the grin stamped on her lips. Trailing her fingertips down his right arm until she found his hand and locked their fingers, Athena tugged on it gently, pulling Nahuel towards the counter.
“I told you you’d learn about faeries outside the books, I’m keeping my promise.” Bringing Nahuel and her family to meet hadn’t crossed her mind in a normal, humanish context. To her, she wasn’t taking a huge step into their relationship and introducing him to her family. Were they even in a relationship? Athena saw it simply as introducing a curious man to a wise fae, feeding the demon’s hunger for energy with one much older than her own. “Not a wolf indeed.” Ingrid laughed amused as they approached and Tea sat back on her stool, pulling one for Nahuel to sit next o her. “Viking blood.” Closing her eyes, the old woman leaned closer and sniffed, eyes then widening as she turned to Athena and then burst into laughing. “A demon… I knew you wouldn’t disappoint me, kitten.” Ingrid smiled widely at the man and Athena rolled her eyes.
“This is my grandmother, Ingrid Cheshire.” Tea waved a hand towards the bright eyed woman. They had the same smile, Athena and her grandmother, but Ingrid’s eyes were sky blue. “Grandma, this is Nahuel Lodbrog. And the demon, but you know, just Nahuel for now.” She smiled at the Viking, her hand resting on his thigh under the counter. “Beautiful… A panther, for sure.” The woman raised her eyebrows and Athena nodded avidly. “Right? I told you.” She winked at Nahuel. “Fond of cats? You two.” Ingrid pointed at Nahuel and Athena bit down on her smirk, leaning towards him and pressing her cheek against his shoulder.
The nickname was what he knew now and upon hearing it, Nahuel’s features immediately tilted up, eyes closing for a moment as the fae ran her nose along his jaw bone – it was strange, how far they had come, from not wanting to touch each other at all to being unable to prevent their hands from travelling whenever they were in one another’s company, even when Nahuel was not in control, the viking’s body responded as though it was magnetized to Athena’s own. The grin got larger as she addressed Azazel, winning herself a kiss and a flicker of those pitch-black hues in acknowledgement, “Tea,” The voice left Patch’s lips, a name of which only came from the demon. It was the briefest of moments before Nahuel was once again in control, very aware of the older woman who paid close attention to the two of them, despite the very public display of affection. Their hands connected and immediately, his thumb ran over the seemingly delicate flesh of her hands as he was tugged towards the counter top.
Interested entirely in everything that Athena said, excitement rippled through him as he glanced between the two, easy enough to detect the relation and beaming a breath taking smile in the older fae’s direction, “Thank you,” He responded to the younger female before offering the stranger his attention, his lips remaining upturned as she looked him over. He was easily impressed by new beings and how they could tell certain things about one another, and of course, he had some advantage of being able to do so thanks to whom he shared his body with, but this woman detected his blood line, not just his species and it delighted him. He was about to offer comment when the elder sniffed deeply and caused him to chuckle as he glanced nervously towards Athena, still waiting for some form of further explanation.
“Oh!” He breathed, “It’s nice to meet you –“ He attempted to continue but Azazel began to pout that he wasn’t properly introduced and distracted Nahuel as he caught his reflection on a nearby surface. “Azazel – the demon, Azazel.” The Viking quickly covered before chuckling once again to the familiar term he’d been referred to before, “That’s interesting – in another life, maybe.” Doing his best to speak as clearly as possible, out of nerves perhaps, now that he knew he was being assessed by the older woman, he reached a hand under the table to hold Athena’s own. Slightly confused as to the following statement, Nahuel simply smiled, glancing between the two faes that radiated something so fascinating, he could only be happy about the arrangement. “Fond of cats, anything of the earth…” The Viking thought aloud, winning himself a roll of Patch’s eyes.

“You lost something on that phone, kitten?”
Her grandmother’s voice got Athena jumping on her stool, behind the bookshop’s counter. The fae hadn’t realized she’d been staring at the device for what - now - felt like two weeks. Blinking a bit absent minded, she dropped the iPhone on the counter top and raised her hands playfully in surrender. Months ago Athena Cheshire would have laughed at the top of her lungs if someone told her she’d be sitting and waiting for a simple text soon enough. Yet there she was. Things had been going smoothly between her and Patch. All three of them. Somehow Nahuel and his demon had gotten into an agreement and now the fae and the kitten had their men nearly every single day.
Sometimes he’d go MIA and that was usually when Azazel was doing his… doings. Part of the agreement, she’d figured. He gave the Viking time to be with Athena; the Viking gave him time to do whatever it was that pleased demons. The thought brought a tiny smirk to Athena’s lips and her grandmother arched an eyebrow. If you put them both side by side, one would say Ingrid Cheshire was Tea’s mother, never would someone guess the woman was over 600 years old. “Have you fallen into this technology tricks? Is that why you’ve been smiling so much lately?” The old lady asked, leaning over the counter, and Athena rolled her eyes. She hadn’t spoken of Nahuel to her grandparents - but mostly because she hadn’t seen them, spending half of her time at her place, the other half at his.
“Don’t you have a date or something with grandpa?” She snapped back at the woman and Ingrid scoffed, knowing her grandchild all too well. “As a matter of fact I do, he’s picking me up in an hour and taking me to dinner at that Mexican place those witches opened across town.” A Mexican place… That could be a good place to bring Patch. What the hell, Athena, you’re planning dates? Snapping out of her trance, she nodded at her grandmother and pushed her phone away from her. “Athena, I’ve been married for 530 years, you think can you, you, can hide feelings from me? Who is he? Or she? Is it a wolf? You know they are not the best choice, they smell bad.” Ingrid began rambling and Athena burst into laughter, shaking her head. “Not a wolf grandma, not even close.” Tea chuckled, her nostrils picking up that familiar, warming scent and making her perk up her head, turning to the door only to let her lips melt into a cat-like grin as the bell above the door announced someone’s entrance.

Patch was surprised when Athena had messaged him requesting that he meet a part of her family. Azazel had immediately been repulsed, forcing the Viking’s eyes to roll as they argued through the reflection of his mirror. Nahuel was all for meeting another fae, for research purposes, of course, he was fascinated to know what an older, wiser faerie would be like, considering Athena had been enough to attract and maintain the attention of not only a vessel that was too cautious around other beings, but also a demon that fed from all kinds of supernatural beings with little care for whether or not they held something of interest. In the end, Nahuel had won the argument with the promise that Azazel would have his own way tonight, complete control with no interference from the Viking, for the whole night. It was a potentially dangerous deal, but Nahuel was willing to sacrifice some good nature to spend time with a woman he was truly growing to care for, something he couldn’t hide from his demon, though neither of them commented on it, thankfully.
Upon arriving at the shop, the Viking glimpsed at his reflection to take one last look at Azazel with a warning. The demon once again rolled his eyes, lifting their hand to cross his chest, “Scouts honour,” The voice rumbled inside his head and he hopped out of the truck, moving towards the door way with a strange bundle of nerves stirring in his stomach for what felt like the first time in a few lifetimes. Patch crossed the small pathway that lead to the house, a smile tugging on his features as he heard the familiar rhythmic beat of Athena’s heart from inside the store. Pushing open the door, the bell rang above his head and he immediately smiled as he caught a glimpse of the fae, “Athena,” He breathed, attempting to deal with her presence for now, till he was introduced to the slightly smaller, older woman.
