if you scratch your arm for half an hour, you will get a rash. that’s not what caused you to scratch your arm, that’s a consequence. at the same time, you will get physically ill if you continue to deny your mental illness. you don’t treat a stomachache by taking your tooth medicine, so why should you take something that is clearly not working just because you won’t accept that it’s not working? what’s so different about a mental illness? just because you can’t see it, does it hurt less? i don’t think so, and i know that you don’t think so either, so why push away your cure just because it isn’t the cure you want?
