His tongue went numb, becoming sluggish and heavy. The world behind his closed eyelids melted into a hot haze. The steady, deep rhythms of the ocean, rocking the boat, echoed in Su-Bong’s heart, tickled the tips of his lungs. Heat crept downward, from lips to throat, spreading through his esophagus like liquid metal, flowed through his chest, warming his ribs, and slid lazily, like lava, into his stomach.
