Pied Piper - BTS (lizard4444 translation)
Hi. My Korean knowledge is very limited so this is probably not a good translation but I love this song and I think it has some of the best lyrics in K-pop. I think in other translations some nuances are missed so I wanted to do my own and make some explanations. I haven't even been studying Korean for a year so I am sure there are mistakes or things I am wrong about but I am going to try my best. Also sorry if it is not different enough from other translations this is just for fun and well sometimes there are only so many creative liberties you can take.
Also, I have highlighted things I want to leave notes on. Notes are at the bottom.
It's better because it's bad
나쁜 거라 더 좋은 거야
Deep inside you know
속으론 알고 있잖아
Now it's something you can't stop (You can't stop)
이젠 멈춰지지 않는 거야 (you can't stop)
Try to be a little more honest with me (stop)
좀 더 솔직해져 봐 (stop)
Now stop watching and study for your test
이제 그만 보고 시험공부 해
Your parents and boss hate me
네 부모님과 부장님 날 미워해
Videos you've watched, all kinds of pictures, Twitter,
봤던 영상 각종 사진 트위터
V-app, Bon-Voyage. I know you can't help the things you like
브이앱, 본보야지, 알아 좋은 걸 어떡해
Stop, interpret the music video later
그만해 뮤비는 나중에 해석하고
You have so many of my pictures in your room regardless
어차피 내 사진 네 방에도 많잖어
What's one hour? A year disappears in an instant
한 시간이 뭐야? 일이 년을 순삭해
This song is a reward I am giving to you (nice)
이 노랜 내가 네게 주는 상 (착해)
You know this isn't a punishment, come here, I am your paradise (paradise)
벌 받는 건 아니잖아, 이리 와, 난 너의 paradise (paradise)
Can't close your eyes (can't close your eyes)
Even trying to struggle anymore is useless (Don't reject me)
발버둥쳐봐도 더는 소용없을 걸 (날 거부하지 마)
Just close your eyes and tune your ears
그냥 눈을 감고 귀 기울여봐
Follow the sound of the pipe (ooh)
피리 소릴 따라와 (ooh)
Follow this song (ooh)
이 노래를 따라와 (ooh)
I'm a little dangerous (ooh) but you know I'm (ooh) so sweet
조금 위험해도 나 (ooh) 참 (ooh) 달잖아
I'm the one who has come to save you (ooh)
널 구하러 온 거야 (ooh)
I'm the one who has come to ruin you (ooh)
널 망치러 온 거야 (ooh)
You're the one that called to me (ooh) see? (ooh) You know I'm sweet
네가 날 부른 거야 (ooh), 봐? (Ooh), 달잖아
Follow the sound of the pipe
피리 소릴 따라와
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
I'm takin' over you
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
I'm takin' over you
You know it has already started
이미 시작된 걸 알잖아
The moment you heard that sound (yeah, Suga)
그 소릴 듣게 된 순간 (yeah, Suga)
Right, maybe I'm a little dangerous, huh, a little dangerous
어쩌면 그래 나는 조금 위험해, huh, 조금 위험해, huh)
Drawing you in like the pied piper
널 이끄는 피리 부는 사나이처럼
I'm testing you, huh, testing you, huh
나는 너를 시험해, huh, 너를 시험해, huh
Even though you know, like the fruit of knowledge that draws you in
알면서도 이끌리는 선악과처럼
My pipe awakens everything
내 피리는 모든 걸 깨워
That sound burns you up inside, you're drawn to it even more, it makes you react
그 소린 널 애태워 더 이끌려 반응하는 너
Blowing endlessly, huh
끊임없이 숨을 불어내, huh
I'm your guilty pleasure, you can't free yourself, never
난 너의 guilty pleasure, 헤어나올 순 없어, never
You know this isn't a punishment, come here, I am your paradise (paradise)
벌 받는 건 아니잖아, 이리 와, 난 너의 paradise (paradise)
Can't close your eyes (can't close your eyes)
Even trying to struggle anymore is useless (Don't reject me)
발버둥쳐봐도 더는 소용없을 걸 (날 거부하지 마)
Just close your eyes and tune your ears
그냥 눈을 감고 귀 기울여봐
Follow the sound of the pipe (ooh)
피리 소릴 따라와 (ooh)
Follow this song (ooh)
이 노래를 따라와 (ooh)
I'm a little dangerous (ooh) but you know I'm (ooh) so sweet
조금 위험해도 나 (ooh) 참 (ooh) 달잖아
I'm the one who has come to save you (ooh)
널 구하러 온 거야 (ooh)
I'm the one who has come to ruin you (ooh)
널 망치러 온 거야 (ooh)
You're the one that called to me (ooh) see? (ooh) You know I'm sweet
네가 날 부른 거야 (ooh), 봐? (Ooh), 달잖아
Follow the sound of the pipe
피리 소릴 따라와
Yeah, I'm a little dangerous, even I can't handle myself
그래 내가 좀 위험해, 나도 나를 감당 못해
Don't worry my hands are warm for you only
걱정 마 나의 손은 너에게만 따뜻해 따뜻해
If I am ruining you now
만약에 내가 널 망치고 있는 거라면
Could you please forgive me, because you can't live without me, because you know everything
나를 용서해줄래, 넌 나 없인 못 사니까, 다 아니까
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
I'm takin' over you
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
Ooh-ooh-ooh, ah-ooh-ah-ah-ah
I'm takin' over you
Note: I have also seen "미워해" used to say "pisses someone off." Regardless the nuance of this word implies that the "hate" is more personal or emotional. Even "resentful."
Note: Bon-Voyage was a video series by BTS
Note: There is a nuance here a bit awkward in translation. More directly like "You know you have so many of my pictures in your room regardless." It's like something so obvious to the listener. Maybe scolding or making fun a bit given the context?
Note: This word, "착해," I read means "to be nice/kind/good" but is also used to call children or animals "good" or "obedient." Take that how you wish.
Note: This word, “발버둥치다” can mean to struggle violently and desperately but also can be used to refer to a child throwing a tantrum so I see a lot of translations translate it as “throw a fit.” I personally think that translation takes away the feeling it could be conveying, and the actual definition of the word. But also I am not a native speaker so...
Note: Obviously you can see the popular translation I chose to maintain, but as far as I know "tune your ear" is not a saying in English. I think even the exact translation is like "tilt your ear." So not very good. "귀 기울여봐" is like telling someone to listen or pay attention. I have heard it in other songs.
Note: This one also has a nuance that is hard to translate. It's like. "The moment you ended up hearing that sound." It implies it was something that was not intended or planned. It was out of your control.
Note: Okay this one I often see translated by others just as "Like the fruit of knowledge" or "Like the fruit of good and evil" but "알면서도" means like... "Even though you know" so I don't know if I am missing something here but honestly it is hard to translate this without sounding weird. I think it is referencing the fact that Eve knew she wasn't supposed to eat the Fruit of Knowledge. She knew she would be punished, but she was drawn in anyways. So it is like saying two separate clauses. "Even though you know (it's bad), I'm like the Fruit of Knowledge drawing you in." Maybe that is better but I am not sure. However I think it is a shame that translations often leave that part out entirely.
Note: I have read that "애태워" is kind of an older Korean word which means literally to burn someone's guts, but is used now to mean to worry or make someone worry? Oh I sound dumb saying I forget which one but, I like that translation even if it is common.
