for almost two years, Titus had been proud to call the woman in his arms his girlfriend. it seemed natural now, to come home and find her there waiting for him, to embrace her and feel all his worries melt away. he never though heโd ever have the chance to love someone as much as he did herโ
and now he had to say goodbye.
he buries his face in the crook of her neck, sighing, though not contentedly as he usually does. heโs stressed and sad, more than heโs been in a long, long time. the city is disappearing andโฆhe canโt follow her home. he has to go back to his own time, and while heโs excited to be back, heโฆhe needs her there, too. what he wouldnโt give to have her with him, to introduce her to his friends and family.
he kisses her neck and tightens his grip on her slightly.
he hadnโt planned on saying much tonight, butโฆ
โโฆThank you.โ
ย ย ย When your entire existence is based on faith, you tend to have a little more of it than the average. Itโs something that sheโs come to find out over the last few years, before this place; itโs something sheโs continued to believe in all the while. It wasnโt as if she couldnโt believe there was more, that there was better-- that eventually, those people, playing at God, would get theirs. Perhaps, in the end, they had. It was impossible to tell, with the way things were going, disappearing or dissipating into the equivalent of so much fire and brimstone.ย ย ย ย ย ย Another summer, another calamity. ย ย ย ย ย Curling up with Titus had been a last-ditch effort at something like normalcy, but they both knew there was no turning back this time. No pulling back from the edge of this disaster. The city was falling to pieces and, in the end, it was likely theyโd be pulled apart sooner rather than later. There were a great many things she could have done to fix almost anything else, but this?ย ย ย ย ย ย There wasnโt a bit of faith, not a prayer in the world that could fix this, and knowing that much almost made her wonder what use that faith even was. ย ย ย ย ย Breath far too slow a she leans against him, it catches at his kiss, bringing all of her emotions to a head with sudden alacrity. Up comes the sob, a high, nearly soundless hiccup, tears beginning to stream past pale lashes as she presses her face against his shoulder in return. The fabric under her eyes, thin as it is, is soaked immediately, but she simply canโt stop.ย ย ย ย ย ย โI love you,โ she gasps after opening her mouth once or twice and failing to get anything past her lips but a rush of breath.ย โI love you so much--!โ
ย ย ย ย ย Previously loose, a laxness born only out of a desire to continue pretending everything was fine, her arms tighten around him, the strength in it perhaps a bit much in her state of distress. ย ย ย ย ย โI always will.โ
