Update
The update with new downloadable content for beta backers that I mentioned yesterday will be on kickstarter tonight, but it will be a weird-hour-of-the-day/night-update because I have a full day of juggling things for AX. So donāt expect it any earlier than between 12 AM and 10 AM PST. Might as well consider it a Wednesday morning release technically, but it will go out sometime between all the AX prep Iām doing today and leaving for AX tomorrow morning. :āD But thatās when itāll be available! <3

Okay, you guys are sorely in need of an update, so I have another treat coming out for Beta backers tomorrow that I will detail in tomorrowās update. Sorry for the radio silence (again), but Iāve been insanely swamped with other duties recently and screencaps dribbled off because I think I may have painted myself into a corner with theĀ āspoiler-freeā thing, so I need to re-evaluate that part. All of that will be detailed in tomorrowās update (which will also be on kickstarter). Itās not the Day One beta, but I will have something special for all the patient backers, and Iām really sorry for all the delays.

While itās not a whodunnit game exactly, thereās plenty of mystery to be had on Day 1, so I wanted to convey more of that in future screencaps, which usually takes two. Will do more of these in the coming days and resume sound coding on Monday to hopefully have everything done within the next week. (Also, new background again! Was that door always open...?)
Sick today. :( Using this as an excuse to post two screenshots tomorrow, because there are several moments that only work as a two-shot post, so I might as well use this weekend to put some of those up. Dunno how much coding Iāll get done since Iām taking the weekend to rest, but at least the brunt of visual testing is done, which just leaves sound. (Making sure music stops and starts at the right times and doesnāt overlap/clusterfuck no matter which path the game jumps to. Fun fun fun!)

Despite thousands of options to choose from, finding a truly spoiler-free screencap (thatās also visually interesting) is a little bit tricky! I think this one fits the bill. Just vague enough. As a side note, the red-eyed monster only speaks in italics, so who could the speaker here be...?
Still Working...
Itās good news and bad news time once again.
The good news is Iām still working on the Day One beta and over the course of this weekās coding and testing, no other major problems have cropped up! Yay! So in that sense, itās going smoothly.
The bad news is that I stillĀ mildly underestimated the time investment needed to get this to completion. Iāve been pulling crazy-late nights these past couple days, but I still wonāt have it all done by tomorrow. Thereās just too much testing and coding left to do that I underestimated. Side note, Iāve actually been testing the game this entire time withoutĀ the use of developer tools because I accidentally turned them off a few months ago and couldnāt figure out how to turn them back on. Figured that out last night. So thatĀ pathetic oversight has been fixed, and at least testing should go ten times faster.
Honestly, this was a busier week for non-game-related duties than I anticipated, and there wasnāt much I could do about it. Iāve been producing a lot of original content for my day job at Anime News NetworkĀ recently, and that all had to come first. Entire days went by where I just didnāt have the time or energy to tackle the game this past week. (Oh yeah, my birthday was this past weekend, come to think of it!) So itāll be a few more days. Please know that Iām doing the very best I can.
Rather than giving you a new arbitrary release date that may lead to disappointment, Iām going to spend the overtime interim by posting one spoiler-free imageĀ from the Beta on this tumblr per dayĀ until itās released. That could be two days, seven, or some other number, but youāll get a little peekaboo each day until itās finally out, to let you know Iām still plugginā away. Shouldnāt be much longer! Just not, you know, tomorrow.
This first peekaboo is technically a shot from the original demoās content (day zero), but you may notice the staging and context has changed a great deal. One thing I would like to incorporate in the Beta (and full game) is a shading system for nighttime that changes the spritesā color schemes when theyāre in a room like this one, but I have too much else on my plate to promise that for the First Beta. If any Renāpy devs know a good easy tint system to use, feel free to send it my way! Need any time-saving measures I can get! :āD
