i feel like this was the george russell fan experience the first half of the season (or maybe it's just me):

Toto saying he’s prepared to basically fire one of his drivers if a true “fierce” rivalry emerges is just. Honestly my final fucking straw with this team.

I’ve never been a fan but I’ve also never been a hater but to me this just stinks. I’m not even a George Russell fan. But you’d HAVE to be stupid not to read this as him threatening George. We all know Kimi Antonelli isn’t going to have a fierce rivalry with anybody I dare say nothing about him exactly reads fierce.

It all but screams admittance of favoritism, and if George does anything about it or says anything or seems unhappy or fights Kimi too fiercely on track or frankly even breathes wrong he’s getting dropped.

I know I’m batting at a hornets nest when I say this so please heed my tags. I don’t care enough about this to not use the block button liberally if I need to. But I’m so over Mercedes, Toto, and Kimi Antonelli. I think they’re probably cheating in a loose sense of the word, and sabotaging their second driver and their constructors chances by pure neglect if nothing else. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ferrari wins the constructors just out of their pure refusal to play the team game at all and I’ll laugh when it happens.

It’s getting so fucking bad that I wouldn’t be surprised to learn there’s money exchanging hands at this point. Genuinely making this sport feel weird and grimy and this is NOT the opinion I had of this team, these drivers, or Toto at the beginning of this year. I’ve TRIED to be optimistic but omfg I can’t do this anymore.

Anyway. Just needed to get that off my chest. I’m normal.

also this is so weird because some of the most memorable moments in f1 history are rivalries between the drivers??? senna v prost, lauda v hunt, brocedes, vettel v webber, hamilton v verstappen. who remembers years were hamilton or verstappen was dominating?? people remember 2021 and constantly bring it up!! a good teammate rivarly is what this sports needs!!!

i was kinda thinking something. so i think it's 100% guaranteed that george will be staying at merc for the 2027 season, with how they are developing their cars, they will probably focus mostly on improving reliability for the next year. if other teams don't catch up to merc in 2027 and the reliability improves, even if kimi wins the championship this year i really don't see him winning it next year?? it's kinda obvious that he still makes A LOT of rookie mistakes and isn't really level headed when it comes to w2w action. also i don't think he is really learning rn?? you learn the most from failure, and he really hasn't gone through that much adversity this season.

with george not having reliability issues that plagued him the entire season, the gap between these two would be around 10ish points now?? (it's hard to tell where george would be if he had a fair shot in spa and budapest) and george seems to be improving his pace race after race (again, we can't really see that rn because his car is still shit, but anyways). i can only see george losing if mercedes keeps up with preferencial treatment and strategy, which at this point is not unlikely
