Happy Hourly Comics Day! (It was changed from February 1st to February 8th in observation of Black History Month.)
Much like Francis Ford Coppola's disastrously terrible masterpiece Megalopolis, I have used an opening flower as a visual metaphor!
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly

Pigeon Comic 81 - American Idiot
Is it really necessary to reblog something just to state you thought you saw something bad or rude or naughty but you didn’t? Y’all know the artist sees that right? It reminds me of all the people in public school who see someone start to draw a horse’s head and go “OMG ARE YOU DRAWING A PENIS” look for themselves for two seconds and then remark again, “Oh it’s not I totally thought it was a penis.”
Like? Okay? Totally valid experience. Totally valid line of thinking. There’s a whole Reddit called “mildlypenis” after all it’s such a common experience. But:
Why did you have to do it where the artist directly hears you? Y’all know they get notifications for that right?
Reblog if you’re 30 or older
This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!
Oh boy how many of you are gonna be surprised? I’m not quite from the Precambrian but I do predate the colonization of the land by plants.
Alrighty after months of work, a lot of setbacks, and some breakneck effort the RABBIT MASK PATTERN IS FINISHED AND AVAILABLE! https://www.paleopanthera.com/masks/rabbit-low-poly-mask-pattern My patterns are designed for cardboard but play nice with EVA foam and occasionally leather. There was an immense effort put into this one to make precise fitting edges, minimal parts, accommodate glasses, and clear instructions. I even illustrated the angles certain edges use as an upgrade on previous patterns. And now. For this week. A well earned break from mask work. The next one will likely be either the raven skull instructions or a redo of an older pattern.

"Wild Hearts" - Continuing to think in linocut terms and imagining if I had access to silver and gold inks as well. Things like this would have to be REAL big. I find carving relaxing when all the artistic decisions are already made. I wonder if the local arts place would ever have a printmaking class that could walk me through their presses or printing technique...I can carve the blocks themselves just fine.
A lovely Korean woman taught me my very first Korean word at a protest: yong-gi. Courage. Have courage.
"Eclipse" - digital. Could totally be a print I'm sure if I wasn't a coward. One life eclipses another; Smilodon takes down a whitetail deer. Inspired by petroglyphs, cave art, and ancient Scythian art. It's weird to think that the whitetail deer survived the ice age and made it to the present but many of its predators did not.
I keep seeing ndn mutuals sharing this, so just in case you're sharing it thinking it's native art just a heads up it is not.
It isn't meant to be native. I don't take that accusation lightly. The original tag that sparked my repost was this: "#reaaaally looks like thats what the artist was going for though.."
I hope for the love of all that is green on this earth people are not somehow automatically assuming distilled animal forms alongside bits here and there from 1) Scythians, 2) neolithic China, 3) neolithic Ireland+Scotland, 4) Chauvet cave, 5) Lascaux cave, 6) 6,000-8,000 year old African rock art in Libya and Niger, 7) patterns I find pleasing in linocut, 8) works by David Hale, and 7) anatomical shapes I just really enjoy & enjoy exaggerating are intended to be or could only be native art. That's all the major influences I can think of while I've been rolling these concepts around in my mind. These shapes have been applied to North American animals because these are what live and died in the southeastern US. My backyard. Where I live. This is not native art, it has never been claimed nor presented as native art, and most importantly I actively work away from North American indigenous influence because of the issues they deal with in art. I work towards my own deep time ancestry.

I'm not easily distracted, you are! Welcome back to the Trash Book for 2025... Will I finish it in time??
This is probably the largest art I've made in a long time; it's 16x48 inches at 300dpi. All of the animals are inspired by petroglyphs and cave art from around the world on top of the shapes found within the animals themselves. It started with the center buck who was originally drawn in my sketchbook and slowly began to take on a life of its own. I'd love to paint this on a building somewhere.
