Movement nudge, hand mobility! 🙌
X
1) do this even if you're under 40. seriously. I definitely should have been doing something like this for years and I only turned 40 a month and a half ago
2) if you're like me just now trying this going "oh god i've only done 15 and i think my hands are cramping" start lower than 30 and increase by 5 once whatever number you're doing no longer makes your hand cramp up. I can manage about 15 per exercise at the moment.
If you're hypermobile, be especially gentle.
😳
Add in wrist exercises and 6+ hours of crochet time are back on the table.
I made a big cat mask for Japan Expo using @paleopanthera's low-poly pattern (you can check my merch haul on my main blog from the con if you're curious).
I made the mask in a rush, in three days, as I hadn't been able to really work on it before the very last moment (I had the last finals of my life to prepare!). Because it was my first time doing something like this, I didn't want to make it my fursona, so I just modelled it after a puma and I have been saying that it's a Cathay khajiit (LOL). For such a rush job, I think it came out quite well, especially for a first! If I had to make any change to it as it currently is, it would be to add a tiny bit of padding in the cheeks. As it stands, it presses on my zygomatic arches and after a whole day of wearing it, I was definitely sore there the day after!
I also have monocular vision when I wear it, so I do have to take breaks wearing it from time to time in order to rest my eyes and "reset" them (I got to experience having trouble judging distances too: I'd reach for items in the artists alley and miss by a margin!).
(I got a little cardboard Qifrey's apprentice hat at the Pika Edition booth too)
The mask is fairly solid and light, but still has a little bit of give (possibly because I only had the time to make one layer of papier mâché and gesso). It is very breathable thanks to its mouth and nose openings (the open eyes likely played a part too). I didn't feel hot in it, except when walking directly under the sun during the heatwave (fair enough). I could drink while wearing it by using a straw (thank you fursuiters for the idea).
I made it using cardboard and a hot-glue gun, papier mâché with a homemade glue made from flour and water, gesso and acrylic paint (black, white, warm gray and raw umber) + an elastic.

A lovely Korean woman taught me my very first Korean word at a protest: yong-gi. Courage. Have courage.
Acrylics on solid wood board. Roughly 20cm x 60cm, 2cm thick wood. Designed, sawed out and painted by yours truly.
Will get a UV resistant matte varnis and will be wall mountable.
Happy Hourly Comics Day! (It was changed from February 1st to February 8th in observation of Black History Month.)
Much like Francis Ford Coppola's disastrously terrible masterpiece Megalopolis, I have used an opening flower as a visual metaphor!
in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly

Is it really necessary to reblog something just to state you thought you saw something bad or rude or naughty but you didn’t? Y’all know the artist sees that right? It reminds me of all the people in public school who see someone start to draw a horse’s head and go “OMG ARE YOU DRAWING A PENIS” look for themselves for two seconds and then remark again, “Oh it’s not I totally thought it was a penis.”
Like? Okay? Totally valid experience. Totally valid line of thinking. There’s a whole Reddit called “mildlypenis” after all it’s such a common experience. But:
Why did you have to do it where the artist directly hears you? Y’all know they get notifications for that right?
Reblog if you’re 30 or older
This is an experiment to see if there really are as few of us as people think. You can also use this to freak out your followers who think you’re 25 or something. Yay!
Oh boy how many of you are gonna be surprised? I’m not quite from the Precambrian but I do predate the colonization of the land by plants.

Alrighty after months of work, a lot of setbacks, and some breakneck effort the RABBIT MASK PATTERN IS FINISHED AND AVAILABLE! https://www.paleopanthera.com/masks/rabbit-low-poly-mask-pattern My patterns are designed for cardboard but play nice with EVA foam and occasionally leather. There was an immense effort put into this one to make precise fitting edges, minimal parts, accommodate glasses, and clear instructions. I even illustrated the angles certain edges use as an upgrade on previous patterns. And now. For this week. A well earned break from mask work. The next one will likely be either the raven skull instructions or a redo of an older pattern.
A Smilodon for the ice age. Protect your neighbors.
