                                           OBSIDIAN CITY

On its surface Obsidian City appears a bustling metropolis, but far below the forest and skyscrapers a network of mines criss-cross the island. Hidden in their walls is a resource that is as terrible as it is great: ethereum. Magic.

                                                  POWER

The mineral ethereum was found by the fae, a species presiding over the island for two millennium. When word of the island’s magical riches spread, other creatures were drawn to settle there too. First to follow were the vampires, making sworn enemies of the fae. Their quarrels date back to those many years ago when they first invaded the island and started hoarding ethereum for themselves.

                                                  GREED

Next, the sirens from the deep sea made a home of the vicious rocks at the island’s eastern edge. Redcaps invaded soon after, with their lust for blood and violence, to make a grab for whatever ethereum they could. In between skirmishes, werewolves and banshees came silently like a plague, and finally the inevitable happened: hearing of the treasures to be mined the humans arrived with only one natural gift of their own to stand up against the more imposing of species: cruelty. So far it’s served them well enough.

                                                  MAGIC

Ethereum can make you stronger, it can curb your creature urges or heighten your already magical abilities. It can give you the world, and it can take it away. Sometimes it’s fun, sometimes it’s necessary. Sometimes it’s cut, laced, and sold on the black market. Sometimes it’s stolen, sometimes it’s pure. There is only one constant in Obsidian City: nothing stays the same for long. Territories expand, territories shrink. One day you may have a steady supply of ethereum’s addictive magic, and the next you’re begging a territory’s leader for more, offering up your services or savings account for a little pinch to make it through the day. If nothing else remember this: the rumors are warnings, and they’re true. In Obsidian City you’re off the map, and here there be monsters…
