3. comforting her after a tough situation (by carefully touching her arm)

Re-watching Stargate from the beginning. And one thing I am struck by, is how beautiful O'Neill's masculinity is displayed.
There's no denying that he is a masculine person. The ultimate ideal of what a man is. He's played by Richard Dean Anderson, the man semi-responsible for the term "MacGuyver" being part of our everyday lexicon.
But as a man, he doesn't fit the modern ideal of masculinity. He doesn't have a six pack. He's of average height. He's in his 40s, with greying hair and wrinkles. You don't get to be a Colonel in the Air Force and stay a fresh faced 20-something. Overall, he just looks like some guy you'd see down the pub. Not making a podcast on how men need to be dominant.
On the surface O'Neill appears to be emotionally unavailable who uses his humour as a defence mechanism. This is partly true, but it's not the whole story. His humour is a defence mechanism to stop himself from being overwhelmed by everything that has happened to him as a career soldier.
When it comes to those under his command, he's compassionate. He asks for advice and ideas from his team before offering anything of his own. He LISTENS and pays attention!! He's willing to offer hugs when needed. He's good with kids, giving an adorable shiba Inu to a girl in mourning to provide her with emotional support and joy. His advice is often to try to be friendly and smile. He never tells anyone to suck it up and get over it, and if he does tell someone to put their feelings aside it's so they can focus on saving lives.
He sends Daniel a tissue box as a message that he needs contact, rather than an intrusive probe.
Episode SIX we also see him (well, a crystal that had taken over his form) sitting in a ball, clutching the pillow of his dead son, crying his eyes out. You would NEVER see that in a modern day drama that early on.
This was made in 1997, and yet I am left with the intense feeling that we need to have more characters like Jack O'Neill around today. We need more men who want to emulate his version of masculinity. The kind who attends his doctors appointments, listens to what she has to say, and will follow her orders as a medical professional.
We need more men whose character is partly defined by his complete lack of knowledge. He regularly says "I don't know about this so I'm going to ask Captain Samantha Carter about it."
God I love this man.

#I make no apologies, this is me
Been thinking about all the great ways fanfic writers make it possible for Sam and Jack to be together (thank you for your service š«”) And one of my favorites is Jack retires and becomes a civilian contractor (like Daniel or Teal'c) and I can just see it now...
Random General: You can't do that.
Jack: I can't do that? Says who?! What are you gonna do? Court martial me? Throw me in jail? Don't think Supreme Commander Thor would be too happy about that. Can't be insubordinate when your not a subordinate, suckers!
He'd be even more of a menace, and it would be beautiful I think.

My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys by Taylor Swift
My Top Twenty-Five Stargate Characters ā #06 ā³ Jack O'Neill
I think this is my favourite Sam and Jack hug.
Despite the heartbreaking circumstances that lead to it, there is something so intimate and beautiful about it that makes it not only my favourite hug but also one of my all time favourite Sam and Jack scenes.
Sam is feeling so many different and conflicting emotions, deep grief and shock over losing Janet but also immense relief that Jack is okay, that he's still alive and with her, when it could easily have turned out so differently. She is dealing with a lot but Jack is a safe place, she knows he won't judge her, he won't tell her to pull herself together or try and insinuate she's somehow weak for showing emotion, he's just going to be there for her, like he always is.
It's at times like this, times of high emotion or danger, when keeping their true feelings under wraps becomes a little harder, but I love how neither one of them holds back, they both need this and while in relative privacy, they are able to just be Sam and Jack for a moment.
The little 'come here' from Jack (it always gets me when he says that to her!) and the way Sam closes her eyes as Jack dips his head into her neck is so intimate, he just wants to take her pain away but he knows he can't and I think he needs this hug just as much as she does. I also think it's here when the reality of what has happened, and what could have happened, really starts to hit them. I just know that they stayed this way for a while, neither wanting to let go.
It's moments like this that really cement Sam and Jack as one of the best ships, their chemistry is, as always, incredible and it speaks to the talent and bond that RDA and AT have that they can convey a huge amount in scenes like this without really saying a lot, or anything at all in some cases. Some of their best moments have been when neither of them utter a word, they are just that good.
It's why Sam and Jack will always be one of my most precious OTP's ā¤ļø
This this this THIS!!! All day long!!! Couldnāt have put it better myself!
This is also my favorite hug. Such an important moment for each of them.
Sam and Jack FOREVER.

I LOVE jealous/territorial Eames. We didn't see it nearly as much as the other way around, and I suppose it didn't fit her character as much, but I feel like it gets easily overlooked that she's just as into Bobby as he is to her. She's also just as smitten with him; she's more grounded and reserved, but as obvious as Bobby is, Alex absolutely adores that man.
Hello! Hi!
Eames is so damn into him, and can get pretty territorial. The most obvious one of that I remember off the top of my head is the one moment in 'Anti-Thesis'.
The way Eames just "steps in" and antagonizes Wallace, challenges her and makes clear that this is her man. But she can also be much more understated and she did it very early on. Like in 'Maledictus'...
And anyone saying she's not smitten with him, hasn't been paying attention to the way she looks at him when he's being smart. 'Chinoiserie' comes to mind...
Or earlier... 'Phantom', for example...
Also, it would be criminal of me to not mention this one moment from Wee Small Hours...
Also... We cannot and will not forget season 10, which was them being smitten with each other non-stop. But Eames was much more "open" with it compared to earlier seasons.
And anyone who says she isn't as down bad for him as he is for her... Let me remind everyone of the start of 'Purgatory' before everything went down. She misses him to her very core.
Also, I just remembered her absolute savage move of telling off that matchmaking woman.
"Sorry. He can't afford your meat market."
And now that I'm thinking about things, I also remember that one scene from SVU. The ending of 'Acceptable Loss', in which someone probably forgot to tell someone else (*cough* Kathryn Erbe *cough*) that the relationship between Goren and Eames was supposed to be "ambiguous" but leaning more on the "platonic" side. Hah! Platonic, my ass. Platonic⢠more like it. Nothing about them was platonic and this one scene makes it clear, even to the people who don't know Goren, Eames or Criminal Intent. People will understand that she loves her partner.
Her talking about learning from him and looking like that when she confirms his methods to be "eccentric". She loves him. That is the only possible conclusion here.
Sorry, I was drifting off and going on tangents. But we were appreciating territorial Eames. I feel we got that in the professional sense when Ross became Captain. The way she was pissed at him in the beginning when he was questioning their partnership and Goren's style. And after, every time Ross even started to question Goren's style or motives or even sanity. Very apparent in Frame, where Eames just almost outright tells Ross he's insane for believing Goren to be capable of the crime. The moment when she defiantly looks at Ross and goes to prove her partner has nothing to do with it frankly lives rent free in my head.
So, yes, in this house we stan territorial/jealous Eames and her incessant need to prove her partner is the bestest partner and man there ever was and he's hers, get your grubby hands off him.
But let me open up the "collection". People, you should totally reblog this/comment with your favorite moment of Eames being territorial/jealous and/or absolutely smitten. There's probably a lot I missed here.
