Bound Beyond Death - Isaac Night x Fem!Reader
Reader is Ajax's sister, their mother was pregnant with him at the time of reader and Isaac's accident.
The air in Iago Tower was thick with smoke and tension, gears whining as the machine fought against it's own design. Isaac's hands flew across controls, reaching for the lever that would put an end to this all. He had it. He almost had it. Francoise could be saved. The equations were correct, the energy from Gomez was precise.
Then he heard your voice.
The blast ripped through the room as Morticia cut off Isaac's hand, glass and metal flying through the air. Isaac's last sight was of his girl watching him with wide eyes, wary of the experiment she thought was to come. And then-
They buried you together.
The lab had taken almost everything except only the remnants of what you and Isaac had been. Morticia's hand hid her trembling mouth as she knelt beside your body while Gomez dumped Isaac in the grave, her pale fingers brushing your cheek. "You were my dark star, my companion in midnight hours," she whispered. "The world will be dimmer without you."
Gomez waited for her to finish speaking before placing you in the grave beside Isaac far more gracefully.
Isaac's body laid just beside yours. When you were lowered into the hole your lifeless hand fell limp, fingers outstretched to where Isaac's hand was. Just a breath apart. Just out of reach.
As Gomez began shovelling dirt, Morticia's voice broke through the silence. "May eternity grant you the embrace stolen from you by fate."
The earth swallowed you both. Separated by inches, by soil, by death.
When Isaac awoke, the world was different. His heart still ticked like a clock, his body still woven together by science and obsession. The thing different was that you weren't in it. Pugsley babbled about how cool it was to wake a zombie but Isaac wasn't listening. You weren't there.
For weeks he searched for you. The secret passages within Nevermore, the graves, behind the Lupin cages where the two of you would meet for secret rendezvous. He found nothing. No sign that you too had been reincarnated with him.
The thought was lodged in his mind: if he came back then you must have too.
He saw you again when he least expected it.
You weren't hidden in ruins or wandering half-mad. You were alive, laughing, walking with a boy. The sight made Isaac freeze, every cog in his chest seizing up. His jaw tightened as his hands flexed. The boy's hand brushed up your arm. Your smile lit the path between you.
Jealousy began to overpower his logic.
Isaac watched you for days. Stalking. Waiting. Rage mixing with the relief of knowing you were okay. He memorised your patterns, calculated the distance between you and the boy. The jealousy whispered cruel lies in his ear until one night he wasn't as careful with his watching.
The moment you were in his arms, the rage he was feeling broke like glss. His hands clutched at you, cold and trembling. The smell of smoke still clung to your hair, or maybe it was his. Your fingers curled into his coat like you had moments before being led up Iago Tower the night you both had died.
"I thought I lost you," you whispered, voice cracking.
Isaac pulled back, eyes glistening with hunger and suspicion. "I saw you. With him." His tone was sharp, accusing. "You smiled for him."
Tears were still rolling down your cheeks but you laughed, a wet disbelieving sound. "Isaac, that's Ajax. My brother."
Something shifted in Isaac His jaw clenched as realisation cut through the haze of jealousy. "...Your brother."
"Yes, you ridiculous man." You cradled his cheek, your thumb brushing across cold skin. "Still insanely jealous even after death?"
His lips curved faintly, but the smile didn't reach his eyes. He leaned in, forehead pressing to yours like a vow. "I won't lose you again. Do you understand me? Not to anything and not to anyone." His grip on you tightened, possessive and unyielding."
You softened against him, undead heart thrumming. "You've got me, Isaac. Until your gears stop turning."
When his mouth claimed yours, it was desperate and consuming. Not just love, but ownership, devotion, obsession all wound together in the cold tick of his clockwork heart.
And Isaac swore silently as his arms locked around you, never again would the world take you from him.
Before Isaac and you reunited:
Dirt pressed cold and heavy against her lips. For a moment she wondered if she was still dreaming after whatever happened in Iago Tower until her lungs convulsed, dragging in a strangled breath that tasted of earth.
Her fingers clawed up instinctively. By the time she pulled herself into the open air, her body was still humming from the explosion that was now forgotten in Nevermore's history.
Her legs trembled as though she had borrowed them from someone else. The ground felt wrong beneath her bare feet, too loud, too sharp.
The stained glass towers of the Academy looked familiar but distant, like a memory viewed through water. She followed the pull in her chest until she reached the cabin she had known before the lab which was now strangely still.
Inside, framed photographs caught her eye. Faces frozen in time. Smiles she found familiar. And then, him. A teenage gorgon peering curiously at one of the frames, a snake peeking out of his beanie.
"Who are you?" She asked cautiously, her voice hoarse.
The teen gorgon spun around, his gaze locked on hers. Something clicked like recognition in his expression, eyes widening, lips trembling. He rushed to her before another word could leave her mouth. He hugged her tightly, chest pressing against hers. "...You're my sister?"
Her brows furrowed. "...Ajax?" She breathed.
He froze for a second, stunned. "Yeah. How'd you know my name?"
Her lips curved softly, a small smile gracing her face. "That's what I wanted Mom to call you."
He pulled back slightly, eyes shimmering, as if years of stories and memories frozen in photographs had all led to this one moment. Her hand brushed his cheek, grounding herself to the world she just returned to. And for the first time since she was resurrected weeks before, she felt something warm, something human, amidst the lingering freeze of death.
