gender is such a strange concept to me. like I understand what it's based off of, traditionally, but now it doesn't really make sense. gender in the past was boiled down to which reproductive organs you had, and society as a whole built off of these two binaries. but as humanity has grown, those two labels, aren't really. necessary?
gender is now a performance. putting bits of yourself into little checkmark boxes for "girl" and "boy," but what even is a boy!!!!
to understand these two binaries, you need to understand decades of building that has been done to create these two ideas. without the societal context, these words mean nothing at all.
i don't particularly like filling out forms just to decide my identity, especially when this identity does nothing for me. I genuinely. GENUINELY. dgaf. none of the labels ever speak to me, neopronouns are a hassle, and I just don't have the time or energy to deal with all that.

I'm really split on Pyro's enforcement of boundaries. On one hand, if I was a celebrity and a large part of my decently big "fandom" where focused on fantasizing and speculating about me having romantic of sexual relationship with my friends I would probably be uncomfortable with it, even if it was purely fictional and a natural part of a "fandom". But on the other hand, having an author police what is done with there characters is a bad thing. If, just for example, Douglas Adams started being controlling about Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy shipping because "some characters have personality traits from him and other people he knew" that would be weird and completely unreasonable. Since all of these characters are, well, characters and not real people and the author policing what you do with them is weird and has never been done to my knowledge. MCYT inhabits a weird space in between these two extremes, where vampires!Pyro could be considered a fictional character. They have their own story arc, flaws and dynamics. But we are also watching a person, live action role-playing everything. They could be really good at said improv and could be playing a character that is completely different from their normal self, or they could not. But you can't blame the fandom for taking v!Pyro as a character, especially when you are surrounded by other people who are also role-playing completely different people. v!Ren has a wildly different accent, v!Owen is almost comically evil, v!Cleo assumes that everyone got turned with consent due to their upbringing, etc. And from that fandom sprouted several ships that are beloved to me (such as applespice, majorscythe and firelock). Taking away that culture in a such an immediate way feels weird, even when the character is, in a sense, a real person in a preexisting relationship that feels uncomfortable. So overall, idk. I barely know what I am talking about and could be wrong or right about literally everything. Still, endorsing harassment even as a "joke" is enough for me to unsubscribe. I hope this whole debacle gets resolved.
