at some point during the months following the cottage, a video began circulating on twitter of ilya rozanov kissing someone behind a bar in montreal. this was a common occurrence for a man of his status, various videos and pictures were always posted of him with a new girl on him after every single game. the difference between those pictures and videos was one thing: shane hollander. this new video was of ilya rozanov kissing shane hollander. no one knew the origin of this video but everyone knew this was going to change the game forever. rivals kissingâon video? fans were going crazy. hollander and rozanov had yet to hear about this video, too caught up with their secret planning of their charity to pay attention to anything online. one person, though, saw the video and was immediately stunned. cliff marleau.
marleau had been scrolling twitter, per usual, and stumbled across the video. it took him a few rewatches to figure out who was in the video, but when it finally clicked for him, he was furious. not because ladies-man rozanov was kissing a guy, no no. it was because he had jane in montreal, the only girl rozanov was actually committed to! marleau didn't understand how rozanov would betray the one girl he cared about so muchâfor his rival of all people! montreal kane had been around for almost a decade, the only girl that had ever stuck around and not become a wag. marleau had to come up with a plan to confront his captain, quickly.
it was decided. the next time boston played in montreal, marleau would confront rozanov about his infidelity. he had come up with a plan on what he should say, landing on flat out asking why he would jeopardize his relationship with montreal jane. as he and rozanov got into their hotel room, he decided it was time to put his plan into action. he placed his suitcase down on his bed and turned to face his captain.
ârozanov, you see that video of you on twitter yet?â he started with, building up to his end goal. rozanov looked up from where he had been texting on his phone, confusion plastered on his face.
âuh, no, what video?â rozanov asked, fixing his face into a neutral expression. marleau attempted to read his face, looking for signs of recognition, finding none.
he took in a deep breath before asking, âwhy did you kiss hollander when you have montreal jane? youâve never had two groupies in the same town at the same time before?â he exhaled, having spoken fast to not psych himself out of asking. rozanovâs face drained of color, dread and fear replacing his feigned nonchalance. marleau took note of this and immediately said, âi don't care that you're kissing guys or anything, you do you man, but hollander of all people? your rival?â
rozanov let out a small breath of relief, glad that his best friend and teammate wasn't disgusted with him. he chuckled a little, realizing that he now has some explaining to do on his behalf. âi, uh, i don't have two groupies in the same town, marleau..â rozanov lands on as his response.
marleau looks at his captain like he grew two heads. what does he mean, obviously he has two groupies in the same town? hollander and montreal jane. one. two. two groupies. âhollander and montreal jane, that's two groupies right there, man. what do you mean?â
âi want you to think about something, marleau, okay?â rozanov starts with, waiting to see marleau nod his head before continuing, âhow many times have i hooked up with women in montreal?â marleau thought about all of the times they've played in montreal, how many times they'd gone to bars and went home with women.
âi think we went to a club some time ago and i saw you with a chick there, that seems to be the only time I can think of.â marleau says, brow furrowed slightly as heâs trying to connect the dots, though it wasnât working.
rozanov smirks, then controls his features, âcorrect, one time. i didn't even take her home that night,â he says with a grimace. marleauâs mouth opened slightly in shock, he was sure rozanov had hooked up with the blonde girl after they left the club. âdo you know what hollander was doing at that time? or better question, who was he doing?â
marleau thought for a moment, racking his brain for the answer and it dawned on him. ârose landry..? but what does any of this have to do with montreal jane?â
it takes rozanov a moment to gather the english words, attempting to explain it the best way possible. âwhen hollander was with rose landry, i was no longer with montreal jane, correct?â marleau nodded, âyes, so we are agreeing now? we see connection?â
marleau shook his head, ânah, man. what am i missing here?â marleay couldn't see the connection between hollander having a girlfriend and ilya not talking to montreal jane.
âmarleau, montreal jane and hollander are the same person.â rozanov replied slowly, allowing time for the words to process and sit in the air. marleauâs face fell, quickly recovering, and began laughing. rozanov stood there in shock, why was he laughing? truth was said, not jokes. âwhat? whatâs so funny?â
without stopping his laughter, marleau replied with âthere's just no way! i don't believe it!â marleauâs laughter died down and he looked back at rozanov. âoh, oh wait. you're serious?â
âyes, serious. shane hollander is montreal jane. you need proof or something?â rozanov asked, smirking slightly. marleau contemplated for a moment before nodding his head. rozanov then pulled out his phone and called hollander, keeping the call off of speaker phone. as the phone rang, marleau tried to wrap his head around the whole situation.
âuh, hello?â hollander said as he answered the phone, rozanov was still smirking.
âhello, shane, did you see there is video of us going around on twitter?â rozanov asks, starting the conversation off simple at first. marleau was taken aback, shane? they were on a first-name basis?
âyeah, i saw it, what are we going to do? had anyone asked you about it yet?â rozanov could hear the panic seeping through his boyfriend's words.
âyes, i have been asked about video,â rozanov winks at marleau, âbut no need to worry, everything is fine. we need you to confirm something, though,â
âokay.. what is it, ilya?â hollander asks, right before rozanov puts the call on speaker phone.
âshane, can you tell marleau that you are montreal jane? he does not believe me.â over the phone, he could hear hollander spit out his drink. marleau chuckles alongside rozanov. âshane, is not funny, please tell him.â
âwhat the fuck, rozanov! oh my godâfuckâokay fine. yes, montreal jane and i are the same person, ilya, why would you tell people!â rozanov then took the call off of speaker phone to reply to his boyfriend. he ended the call and looked at marleau.
âdid that confirm it for you?â rozanov asked, marleau now grinning.
âyeah, it did. holy shit, rozanov, i had no clue this entire time. i have so many questions for you now, man,â marleau said, beginning his endless list of questions. he asked how it started, how it's going, and even asking about their sex life. he said it was because he âwanted to make sure his best friend was laying it downâ, but rozanov knew it had a larger reason behind it.
