The avatar is from a photograph taken by von Gloeden, an early photographer of the male nude. Not much is documented about his models, but some info is available at the links above. This photo is a detail from “Faun,” taken in 1898, number 1243 in von Gloeden’s catalog.

So... what’s the deal with this blog? None of this will be original content, but I want to limit these reblogs to items that have a source. Tumblr is full of pictures floating around with no idea who the model or artist or photographer or studio might be. Tracking down even a single image source is a surprising amount of work. So for this blog I want everything to be close to the ground, either reblogged from the original content creator (the way it’s supposed to be--no copy/pasta) or, for vintage material, with a clear citation that at least names names.
