Had a dream last night that someone found out that I only ever rinse my french press from day-to-day, and remarked on how it was “sort of dirty isn’t it.”

When is an opposite an absence? When I finally introduce light, I want to be loved for it. I want to stare out into a crowded room somewhere in Indiana, the spotlight so blinding I have a feeling of being alone even though the fact is different, and when someone shouts from the back of the room, “What do you love?” I tell the room into the microphone how much I love to fall asleep in the presence of others. I begin slowly and I speed up. I tell this entire bright-dark full-empty room about the time I fell asleep at an Aretha Franklin concert, not because I was bored, but because I wasn’t. I am on the lookout for intermediate shades of meaning. Mood lights in the corner. Etc. Maybe there are some polar opposites after all, and then I can stop fighting.
