Obi-Wan Kenobi Disability Exchange

For pinch hitters and those with extensions, your deadline is Sunday, August 10th (8/10/25) at midnight (11:59 pm) PST. Please submit your assignments by then, so that I have time to review and approve them. (The schedule says Saturday, August 10th, which is wrong, sorry! The 10th is a Sunday, so you get that day to finish up.)

Works will be revealed on Monday, August 11th (8/4/25). (Again, a change from the schedule, because I don't think I can wait a week to reveal the works!)

You have a month to complete and upload your works. So, if you haven't already, please begin thinking about your assignment. There will not be a formal check-in, but if you do not think you will be able to complete your assignment, please let me know, at least one week before (Sunday, July 27th; 7/27/25), and we will discuss your options. There are beta readers available; if you do not have access to one but would like one, email me at [email protected].

A few things to remember as you start writing/drawing:

-The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange is 500 words. Fanart must be completed.

-You do not have to do all three of your exchange recipient's requests, one will do. It also does not have to be the one that matches your offer, if you find that one of the others inspires you.

-Please try to make sure your work fits the given prompt. It does not have to include all of the tags, but should include at least one (or more) of the given disabilities and at least one of the characters (if there are any), although you should base your work on the prompt in the description.

-All works must contain Obi-Wan Kenobi, in some capacity, even though the AO3 requests do not contain him as a character. Again, please try to base his role in the fic on the recipient's prompt.

-Respect your recipient's Do Not Wants (DNWs).

-Explicit content is allowed if the recipient has the "Explicit" or "Any rating" tags in their request. Do NOT write explicit content if the request contains no rating tag, or the "General", "Teen and up", or "Mature" tags.

-If you need to default on your assignment (meaning you cannot complete it), please send an email to the exchange gmail above so a pinch-hitter can be assigned in your place. If both you and your gifter default, no pinch-hitter will be assigned and you may not receive a gift.

-If you wish to be assigned a beta reader, please send an email or DM so one can be found for you.

-Please do not post your work on any sites other than AO3 before the works are revealed on Sunday, August 17th (8/17/25).

Hello! Thank you for signing up! It's not necessary to edit it out, but know that any prompts in the offers descriptions will be disregarded during the matching process, and the prompts in the requests of your giftee should take priority when it comes time to write your gift.

If that changes anything about how you want to go about filling out your sign-up, feel free to edit.

Hi! Not a silly question at all. Generally, exchange prompts should simply be short indications of what you would like to see in your gift. It doesn't necessarily have to be a summary, just something to guide your gifter in the right direction.

What you don't want to do is make your prompt the blow-by-blow of a full plot. Prompts are simply meant to spark creativity and allow authors to write something that ideally they would want to write, and that you would want to read!

Good examples of past prompts:

"Obi-Wan and Anakin bonding over having the same condition. Your choice, whether it is something physical like diabetes or epilepsy, or perhaps something like autism."

"Mostly or totally non-verbal General Kenobi, & how the war changes as a result. Can be autistic / HoH / physical cause / combination of causes, I'd love to see AAC / sign language, can feature other injuries because of being non-verbal, etc."

A few notes about the sign-up form:

-Please read all of the instructions on the form and don't be afraid to ask any questions you have.

-This form uses a tag set to limit the options for the "Additional tags" category on requests and offers. The tag set can be viewed by clicking on "List # Additional tags" under that category, or by visiting the tag set page.

-If the disability tag that you want is not listed, you can nominate a tag by clicking the "Nominate" button at the top of the tag set page. Please allow 24 hours for one of the moderators to approve your tag.

-Please note that you should only include the "Obi-Wan Kenobi" character tag in your prompt if you wish for Obi-Wan to be the only character in your offer or gift.

-Please also note that the "Description" box in your offers is only meant for DNWs, not fic prompts.

-You must submit 3 requests and at least 3 offers, although up to 5 offers are allowed to facilitate matching. (You are only required to create one fic or art piece).

-You may edit your requests and offers at any time up until sign-ups close.

2025 Schedule:

-Sign-ups will begin on Sunday, April 27th and end on Sunday, May 4th (4/27/25 - 5/4/25)

-Disabilities include but are not limited to: chronic illness (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, fibromyalgia), physical disability (e.g. mobility issues, blindness, deafness), and mental/intellectual disability (e.g. autism, adhd, schizophrenia). You could even do a Force-related or in-universe disability, although what this would look like is up to you.

-Obi-Wan must be disabled in some way, even if he is not the main character, but other characters are also welcome to have disabilities.

-This event will not allow the use of GenAI for fics or fanart. GenAI does not belong in fandom spaces. The OWKDE is meant for authors, artists, and fans to create for each other and make something meaningful. That said, fans of all skill levels are welcome here.

-The minimum word count for fanfics written for the exchange will be 500 words. Fanart must be fully rendered and complete (more polished than a sketch).
