One of these days
The right to bear arms
Will come barreling into the classroom
Of the child you bore
And you will regret
Every.
Single.
Time.
You exercised
Your right to remain silent
As the children other women bore were
Buried.
“Join Japan’s Home Guard Today!”
While biking to my work today
I passed the city hall
Where notices and prints arrayed
All posted on the wall
But where in past the notes were vast
There was but one decree
And so I passed on by today
A dark sense of unease
Death—a breath
More days should come without pain
Existence! I scream in protest
I dream of a God filled with no wrath
All this must end but what will I gain?
I’m a thought that can’t find itself
300,000 years of humanity and this is our path?
I have to believe that life is a chain
Death—a breath
We are explosion’s aftermath
We are what remains
Existence! I scream in protest
I want more for us than a bloodbath
I want more than war’s campaign
Death—a breath
Existence! I scream in protest.

Sublimation:
Sublimation is a jump scare. Sublimation is a game changer. A change in state from solid to gas that skips liquid—you don’t drink enough water by the way nobody does—is that moment when you meet someone and you just know this person is going to be so important to you. Sublimation is jerking awake to that damn alarm—is something I would like to cast on Jeff Bezos like a curse—is a word that twenty year olds snicker at in overfilled auditoriums. I took meteorology in college because I was scared to death that abnormal weather would be what killed me—sublimation is a car crash—and god, it really does feel that way these days, doesn’t it.

One of the best things about searching out other people’s works, beyond the creative calories you absorb as inspiration for your creation diet, is finding the stuff that doesn’t work for you at all.
In the most wonderfully petty and celebratory way, finding poems that just fall flat, imagery that leaves you bored, or stories that just do not seem to have a point, is wonderful for you to refine your pallet for what you don’t want to make!
Imposter syndrome flies out the window once you realize there’s plenty of stuff out there that just doesn’t work for you. That doesn’t mean someone else can’t enjoy it. Obviously it meant something to the person making it or it wouldn’t be here, but finding and experiencing that “bad” stuff is a great way to fall in love with your own creations. Because they mean more to you than that other stuff objectively more “successful” people might be making.
In the end we are all subjective creatures looking for someone on the same vibration as ourselves.
Not all art works for everyone, and thats ok!
Incomprehensibles —death, a breath. A thought, or where it comes from. A day without pain. The vastness of space, 300,000 years of human existence. Existence. A loving god who will someday embrace me like a child and tell me it’s all going to be ok. Eternity. People who don’t like cheese. The process by which molecules of a solvent tend to pass through a semipermeable membrane from a less concentrated solution into a more concentrated one and thus create life itself. Pyramid schemes. Owning a house. Having a good night of sex and somehow creating an entire child over the course of the next nine months. Japanese grammar. That one guy in my existentialism class in college. Existence, again. Always.
So, off crown! Now low
Oh, how loss follows —moth soft
So too, blossoms go

This poem is growing.
Like a late growth spurt growing—
Stretch marks aching burning constant
As words fill the gaping hole
where nothing has been.
Hunger hungry hounding thoughts fuck
Fuck fucking fuck this was supposed to
Grow slowly
Gently line by line as words were picked
Carefully and not angry in the harsh rain.
Fuck but I still want you to grow
I want you to grow.

This poem is growing.
The sky is pouring rain and I am standing outside,
soaked with water, heavy with it.
I close my eyes and raise up my arms,
remembering how it was back home
when it rained maybe once, twice a year.
Where at that first patter of water hitting dry earth, the sound sucked away into
the driest of concrete jungles,
everyone would pour out
like human rivers.
Out onto balconies and bone dry sidewalks.
Neighbors I’ve never seen or spoken to,
all standing together with smiles that split their faces in two-
before the rain and now.
I raise my hands out to feel life move against my skin
water so abundant here that I could drown on land.
Today no neighbors join me to enjoy this miracle,
their bodies don’t know the thirst for rain
that bodies from my hometown do.
Every home I’ve ever lived in
Now live inside me
Every rented room
Exists inside my dreams
Each house a living
Breathing space
Metastasizing basements that never existed
Secret rooms never built
Filled with moving blackness and hands that grab ankles
Nightmare eyes at the edges of unused parking lots
By day I live inside my home
By night they come alive inside me
Missing home like—
using mouthwash this morning before
leaving the house,
just so I can pretend
that the ache in my teeth
is a winter in the mountains.
I want to make a phonecall.
To reach across the ocean,
back in time twenty years
to when we
had anything at all in common.
Sometimes I feel like no one takes sadness seriously if you don’t want to die.
Like if you aren’t holding a gun to your head
then you aren’t suffering enough
for them to invest.
To feel any empathy at all
As if the very fact that we all end,
that someday there will be no you and no me
isn’t the most fucking horrifying thing.
All my tears are because there’s an ending.
Missing home like—
using mouthwash this morning before
leaving the house,
just so I can pretend
that the ache in my teeth
is a winter in the mountains.
I want to make a phonecall.
To reach across the ocean,
back in time twenty years
to when we
had anything at all in common.
