Anyway, this implies that Kureha never has a patient who only partially recovers, has outpatient instructions or is afflicted with a chronic illness! I'm probably just taking this too literally. After all, Tama was given instructions on his recovery and we will see Sanji still healing by the end of the arc. I think Doctorine is just being sexy exaggerating for effect here.

Kureha is, if y'all haven't noticed, one of my favorite characters. I'd love to get any more of her lore.

I love the diversity in design for Wapol's military. They might all have the same basic uniform, but even within that framework we see a pointy-looking mustache man with a ponytail, a guy with a black face mask, a large-chinned dude with swords and pistols, some lumpy guy with thick lips, the creepy fella in charge with his sallow eyes, tiny nose and scar, a man with an underbite and some kind of weird facial hair and then last but not least, sideburns and katanas soldier. Oda doesn't do generic characters and that's one of my favorite things about him as an artist.

Oda is really experimenting with Vivi as a comedic character. She's been ditzy before, but here she is doing a straight up comedy routine.

Once again I must point out that just because somebody has a long nose doesn't make it a handle. It even looks like there is some bruising where Vivi grips, given the crosshatching, even though it doesn't appear in any other panels. Most terrifyingly, Usopp has borrowed the Gum Gum to give us a true body horror face.

The inspiration for the Drum Rockies comes from Mount Asgard in Nunavut. Here we can clearly see that they are mostly flat and don't accumulate enough snow to get those kinda fluffy muffin tops of their fictional counterparts. It does make me want to see how Luffy navigated the last bits of mountainside where the rock is covered in snow, but i guess his stretchiness could sorta cheat that if he had anything to hold onto.

This might be the most viscerally disturbing injury in the series due to how relatable it is. My fingienails hurt just looking at it.

Later, it's stated that this mountain is 5,000 meters tall. Obviously, some of that is the base where all the Lapahn and avalanche adventures happened, but clearly Luffy climbed at least a few thousand feet with his bare hands.

This theme of nature and humanity in harmony is of course played up with the character of Chopper, but it also showed up earlier with the hiking bear! Drum already has a dangerous wild animal that gets along with its people as long as respect is paid. Now, with the lapahns, it's gaining another.

Okay, so Luffy got warned not to hit or get hit by anything because the shock would hurt Nami. But backflipping out of the snow to barely dodge arrows isn't dangerous for her? Or for Sanji, who isn't sick but has several broken bones from the avalanche. Sure. Okay.

It's also REALLY amazing as a feat of strength. Polar bears, the closest real life analog to lapahns, can get to weigh up to 800 kilo and Luffy is pulling it out of the snow one-handed while carrying two people. He isn't even using his rubber powers, so you can't quite compare this to stuff like him spinning Momoo around or stabbing Laboon with the ship's mast. Luffy isn't using physics to help lift this big cloud beaver. It's raw strength.

I love when Devil Fruits get used in non-combat situations. Here we see that Wapol can Munch Munch his way out of the snow! Not only that, but he can stretch his jaw and mouth levels we don't see Luffy get to until what, Enies Lobby? Those are houses and trees next to him! We see that he is vulnerable to getting punched in the jaw later, so his stretchiness doesn't have as much defensive utility as the Gum Gum, but at the very least he can plow through obstacles.
