Hello, my little cheese tarts!

This is the final update before the release of Corn Huskers next month!

I’ll be previewing the first few parts by posting them on my AO3 account, and I’d love for you to take a look as they go up.

I can’t wait for you all to read it—and hopefully fall in love with the characters and story as much as I have. This project is something very near and dear to me.

It’s been a whole journey revisiting the early chapters and shaping them with who I’ve become since I first started writing this six years ago.

What’s sizzling, my little buttered rolls?

Though the first few days were a bit turbulent, the end of March and April have truly amazed me. I’ve been spending more time with the characters and the story, and it all feels right again. ❤️

I hope you enjoy this panko-sized snippet—I’m growing more eager for June by the day!

Silas runs his thumb and foreknuckle around the sleeve cuff of his jacket with a gentleness one saves for stirring custard.

There’s something easy about him. Familiar. The kind of boy who knows every road, every name, every story worth telling twice.

“Boring,” he says, not unkindly, like it’s just the way of things.

Like it doesn’t bother him at all.

But his smile lingers a second too long.

You catch him when no one’s looking—his eyes drifting past the last house in town. Your house.

To where the road thins out into field and frailty.
