It was a great pond day, even though I had to constantly run out to clean the lens 😆Even a Cedar Waxwing finally came down (I've been hearing them for days up in the trees), and the first baby Grack! Others are male and female RWBB, Oriole, Grosbeak, Blue Jay and Cardi. I also changed out the pond livecam, the old one was letting in water and fogged up too much.

And the Chickadee nest is also doing well. Mister Chickadee is a very good provider and brings the Mrs. snacks to the box constantly. I like the green ones, they look like juicy candy 😆 and I wonder how in the world they manage to find all these insects when everything is green and lush and their prey is so tiny!

House Wrens build their nests with lots and lots of sticks, which is why I also call them puppies 😆They can fill a space in no time and also make mock nests in surrounding spots to keep territory. They will also peck and toss eggs and tiny nestlings in nearby boxes, which is why Wren guards are good for active nests of others. They are a native bird and adorable, so it is fun to watch them do their thing. She has about 4 eggs so far. (I also added an entrance hole restrictor.)

Good morning with some more visitors at the branch (Cardi, House Finch, Blue Jay, Oriole, Redwinged Blackbird and a very handsome immature male Grosbeak). Music added because the neighbor had 90's rock on the radio all day while doing yard work, which was an awesome blast to the past but not working in the bird video. Happy June, everybody 🌈☀️🍬🌻🐣

This is something you may see on hot days - this Blue Jay is not injured, it is taking a sunbath. It is done for skin care and grooming and helps with parasites. I always love seeing it because it feels like they have to feel perfectly safe when they do it.

The first babies have fledged! And this House Finch baby that came with Dad tonight cracked me up. It looks like the kid that decided to sit at the adult table but isn't quite sure what's happening and pretty much ready for bed 😆❤️

Friday is here, and it is time for a hummer lady parade! They must have also started with their nests, on the first one's beak you can see the spider webs they collect for it. The second one is quite chatty and the third one poops! I am so enjoying this beautiful weather, I may go and play in the garden. Have a lovely one!

And a look into the nestboxes right now. A House Wren has started building a nest two days ago in the 2-holed box and is spending the night in the box, and the Chickadee is sitting on her 12 eggs. It is curious that she has not buried the first batch, she has them all spread out and is incubating them all. Crazy but we will see what happens. Nighty!

This was shot with the tiny Maxdone trailcam again. Because it is so small, it is also light, so you can easily fasten it to smaller trees and branches.

Another update on the Chickadee nest. Things are a bit unusual in that the female stopped incubating last week and brought in more fluff. I thought maybe she started over, and… She seems to incubate again, and it looks like she is sitting on 12 eggs now, old and new. I will let her be but I hope something good comes out of this. Her partner seems to be around and she has spent all nights in the box too. It is the same female, I recognize her from a little parting she has on the head.

Sass and pride at the jelly trough on yet another dreary, rainy and cool May day. These are Rosebreasted Grosbeaks and Baltimore Orioles. They have the ability to lift the mood of a human ☺️

The branch has suffered quite a bit of roughing up during the winter but it is still a popular spot, so it is fun to see who is visiting currently. Here's a White-throated Sparrow, a Blue Jay, a RWBB, one of the first baby MoDos, some MoDos trying to make more baby MoDos, a RWBB with the same thing in mind, and of course squirrels. Every year, I enjoy trying to find new feeder options for the hummers. I've used vintage feeders in the past, tried out gadgets, and always have a version like this, just a small cup that is easy to clean and only has a spot for one. This is the best for my photo setup. This year, a kind James 3D printed me a lid for it, and I am happy to see them using it. (These are the first shots, I am still finetuning.)

No matter how long I've been on this planet (it is 48 years as of today), there are things that will never not fascinate me. Like the night sky. I took a bit of a break from sky clips because we had so much rain but last night, I set one out, and it's been as beautiful as ever. That wind can stay away for a bit though, it is ruining all my flower timelapses 😛
