I just want to say that Moonlight spoke to me. It literally ripped parts of my life and put it on the big screen. The characters were literal representations of me and the people around me as I was growing up. I actually had a Juan-esque figure in my life who actually gave me the nickname “Little Black.” He was like a big brother to me and my sister. I also had a couple of Kevins throughout my life. Kevin represented all the dudes who I was madly in love with over the years. “The Young Kevin” of my life lived right across the street from me and we’d play football every day (even though I hated it) but I would still play because it was with him. “Junior High/High School Kevin” was a quote on quote macho man like in the movie but he protected me from all the bullies. He literally would not let anybody touch me. I still love him to this day. I’m just waiting on that phone call lol. Anyways I just want to say thank you to Barry Jenkins, Tarell Alvin McCraney, Mahershali Ali, Trevante, Ashton, Alex, Andre, Jharrel, Jaden, Naomie, and Janelle for making this black boy shine in the Moonlight.
