âMhm, dragons and their bones. Luckily for you, you can have the bones and Iâll stick to my peaceful vegetarian lifestyle.â She of course added in a wink there, just to ensure it was known she was messing around with it. Sure, she could try to eat meat, but had she ever wanted to? No. âOz, Oz, Oz, are you trying to say you want to be my friend, hmm?âÂ
He chuckled softly. âA very reasonable proposition, young lady.â Oz replied as he picked up his acquisition, looking full and healthy after her diligent attentions. âAre you looking for friends Eve?â His gaze raked over her lightly and he shrugged, âIt doesnât seem like you would be without them.â
âHa ha,â Odette replied sarcastically and with a roll of her eyes. She snorted derisively when he said sheâd miss him, since sheâd be so relieved if he was gone for good. âOh, because you provide so much value? What a hypocrite. You like to lord it over everyone how much better you are than them. You donât actually give a shit about anyone other than yourself.âÂ
âWell we all not as fortunate as some. Luck frequently favours the unworthy.â Oz replied with a huff and a growl. He was speaking of his lack of heirs. So much loss in the centuries of his life. It was exhausting and tedious. It truly was. Sighing with a low grumble. âAnd I am not better than everyone. Just you, Odette.â He said her name as if his mouth were full of poison and he spat on the floor.Â
âI have to warn you, home visits does cost an extra fee.â She was in a teasing mood, and the smile on her face definitely confirmed that. âI take my fee in the form of fruit salads.â Oh she just had to fuck around, didnât she? âI would have to agree though. Weâre perfectly splendid, with great skills, and, most of us donât eat up the meat at the bbqâs, we take all the side dishes. Absolutely amazing, donât you agree?âÂ
Ozâs brow lifted at the tease about an extra fee and then begrudgingly the male chuckled and shook his head. âFruit salad? Hmmm ... I usually prefer something with a bit more crunch crunch. Iâll leave the fruits to you.â He shook his head in amusement. âI have always found a dryad to be a very excellent acquaintance and companion.â

charlie looked all the ground. âdamnit. i guess bianca was right. my eyesight is going. this is why you donât carry your special leaf in a stack of leaves.â he huffed as he stood up and crossed his arms. âand that was gonna be my snack. maple leaves are always tasty.â he looked up at the person who was staring at him like he was crazy. âyou look like someone who hasnât tasted maple leaves yet. did you know they are deliciacy, usually fried. but i donât like that much oil. itâs bad for you.â
Oz had to admit the pretty maleâs distress over a missing leaf was quick charming. If he had been a more accommodating sort of dragon, heâd offer to warm it up for the handsome fellow, no oil needed. However, he hadnât done that since he had taken a dryad lover some time ago. Oh goodness, must be at least three centuries.Â
âI generally prefer to see my dinner bleed, Iâm afraid. I am sorry I am unable to assist.â
âNow I know where to avoid,â Odette shot back and barely refrained from rolling her eyes. âOr, you know, you could go back to where ever youâve been,â she suggested helpfully. âI guarantee thereâs nothing for you here.â She was only thinking about herself, of course, and how pleasant itâd be if he wasnât around. So serene, peaceful, even with the disappearances. If he wasnât behind it, maybe he could be the next victim.Â
âPlease do. Iâd prefer not to have to relocate due to the stench.â Oz replied with a nod and then grinned, âOh but how you would miss me.... after all, you might actually start thinking you provide anything of value to the inhabitants of the island and we both know that is an ugly lie.â He grumbled.
Grabbing a wetwipe, Eve started to wipe her fingers clean of the dirt, not that she minded dirt. But, some people didnât want dirt all over the things they bought that werenât earth or meant to be messy. âYouâre welcome, Jones. If your old ones are struggling though, you can always bring them back in here, and we can take a look at them. The very best plant doctors in town, you know?â Not that they actually were, there were plenty others who were better at that, but they definitely had to be the best plant shop, right?Â
âBring them in? I have so many that it might be easier for you to attend at my residence to tend to my greenhouse. I keep thinking I should befriend a dryad again. They are such talented acquaintances to court, wouldnât you say?â
Odetteâs jaw clenched and she resisted the urge to roll her eyes. âOh, yes, because youâre soooo helpful,â she drawled sarcastically. Couldnât he go away? Why did he come back now? Hmm⌠could he be behind these mysterious disappearances? He was suspicious enough. To her at least. âYes, well, this is a public beach and I am not going anywhere. Shouldnât you live up on the island so you can be surrounded by rocks? Iâd hate for the water to erode anything,â she added dryly.Â
âPity.â Oz replied, distaste curling his lips. She really irritated him, like a moulting but stubborn scale that will simply not shift. âI live above the caves. Although do visit them, the correct rumble at the right time and I would finally get that sand out of my claw.â
@sean-glickmanâ
There were only a few other beings in this world that he found tolerable. Sean was one of them. With his elegance, beauty, and all round salty manner, he was both appealing and entertaining. He could count on one clawed hand how many beings fit that description after so many centuries. He arrived at Ozâs cliffside home and Oz took one look and poured a larger measure of alcohol into the glass and held it out.Â

With a rather large aloe vera plant in a pot, silver with little details in red, she came back out from the back, placing it up on the counter. âReady to cut, shall be.â She gave a nod to the older dragon, before digging her fingers slightly into the earth, so she could connect to the roots of the plant. Plant slowly growing thicker and longer leaves, until she released it from her grip, pulling her fingers out of the dirt again. âThere we go. Is it to your pleasure now?â She asked, not minding to do some of the magic.
Oz nodded in approval with her little addition of magic. Some things were worth paying a premium for. âThank you.â He traced his fingertips over one long frond of the plant. âBeautiful. I appreciate your assistance in the matter.â As an earth dragon, natural foliage was intensely satisfying to him, more so than many of the other elemental dragons.
Odette groaned at the sound of his voice and resisted the urge to rub her temples. Oz. His voice was enough to make her blood boil and she resisted the urge to chuck a rock at his head. âHa, ha, youâre so funny. You should go on tour,â she drawled and shot him a glare. âDidnât realize you were back. Hooray for us. Weâre saved,â was her sarcastic response. âWhat do you want? Did you come down here to bother me?â It was no business of his what she was up to or how she dealt with things. Sure, he was a fellow dragon, so heâd be safe from her wrath, but barely. It was a cruel twist of fate that brought them back to the same place. But dammit. She wasnât going to leave another place because of him.Â
âI did not know you were here. You must have been downwind.â Oz replied sardonically as he dusted off his sleeve. âIâm sure you are being as helpful as ever.â He sighed, irritated by her very existence interfering with his return. He gestured down the beach. âHome. I suggest you find somewhere else to lurk. You know, if the wind changes, I donât wish to become ill.â
It was perhaps strange that Eve who was so happy to chill and do whatever her heart craved was in the front of the store, but it so happened to be where she ended up. She enjoyed it though, gave her a chance to talk to most of the people of the island. Get to know those she hadnât gone to school with. âJones, right?â She said, going through the post-it notes of names and plants that had been written down, and the matching names to the post-it note to the back office where sheâd put the reserved plants away. âYeah, I got it in the back. Do you need the leaves ready to cut like, today, or do you want it to grow naturally for a while longer?â She didnât mind boosting the growth a little after all.Â
âThat is correct.â He murmured quietly, his gaze flicking over the young female. She was quite pretty. âI prefer the longer leaves if possible. Iâll take the healthiest one you have. My other one is still growing in and I donât want to cut it again so soon.â He explained quietly. âThank you.âÂ
Odette wandered out to the cove and sat there on the beach, leaning back against a rock. She needed a minute to herself and had to hope that no young couples hoping to snog showed up any time soon. More missing. She had to wonder if she could convince Flint to quit his job and basically never let him out of her sight again. She had to protect him somehow since she couldnât bear it if anything awful happened to him. Sheâd probably destroy the whole island in her rage, letâs be honest here. âHello?â she called out uncertainly. She thought she heard something? But maybe her mind was playing tricks on her.Â
âI see you continue to be useful in a time of crisis.â Oz stated as the female came into view. He shrugged into his sweater and pulled on weather appropriate footwear. If he had to pass as human, he liked to do it well. âI see your considerable concern has taken a toll.â

Another shifter going missing. Well damn, this was getting real bad, wasnât it? Sure, there was that⌠That⌠Siren? Too, but that could be unrelated. But all these shifters? Dang, it was catching the curiosity of everyone. The nerves of some likely too. But, Eve couldnât just focus on that. Oh no, she needed to focus on selling plants. So when the bell over the door rung, she looked up from her phone, from the news sheâd been reading there, smiling at them. âWelcome welcome. How can I help out?âÂ
âGood afternoon.â He greeted. The news bothered him but it was hard to tell since he was of a permanently grumpy demeanour. Still, he had manners. He didnât not enjoy having his equilibrium disturbed and the last century or so had been particularly annoying and getting more so by the day. âIâm the one who called earlier about your aloe vera plants?â He liked aloe. Itchy scales were incredibly annoying and he didnât want an ugly moult early in the new year.Â

[Wentworth Miller, cisgender male, he/him] OSBOURNE âOZâ JONES is on the isle. The EARTH DRAGON is a 872 year old ARBITER OF DISPUTES which fits them well. Theyâre easily THOUGHTFUL AND BRILLIANT, which is quite in contrast with them being ILL-TEMPERED AND PRICKLY. Theyâve been on the isle for OFF AND ON FOUR OR FIVE CENTURIES, but I wonder how theyâre handling the current situation.
Hello all, Iâd like to introduce you to my ancient Earth Dragon, Osbourne Jones, as follows:
Name: Dragon name is unpronounceable to humans and most other species. Was named Osbourne by a previous mate. Became known as Osbourne Jones when surnames became a thing a few centuries ago. Age: 872 (give or take a decade. he does tend to lose track) Species: Dragon Element: Earth Offspring: None surviving Mate: None currently
General Information
To his knowledge, Oz is the oldest surviving Earth Dragon. Given that they tended to nest in caves and other places made accessible to humans (rather than volcanoes or deep under water like some of the other elements), they had a shockingly high mortality rate. Human beings were terribly clever after all when it came to killing things.Â
After losing his last mate, he retreated to Valengeaux for some peace. Valengeaux has restored some of his spirit. He settled in a comfortable cave system and above was a cliff side home for his human shape. It wasnât large but the view was quite lovely. After a century or two of solitude, he took up a position in the community in order to pass the time.
While known for his taciturn ways, he was scrupulously fair. Even the humans did not mind having a dispute arbitrated by him since regardless of species, he made his decisions in accordance with the laws as set down and the contracts as written. He was fair. He wasnât nice per se but he was fair.Â
Oz was not pleased with the changes being wrought on his island home. He didnât tend to involve himself in these kinds of matters but he had come to Valengeaux for peace, for quiet, and to allow himself to live out his remaining centuries. Woe to anyone wishing to shift him from his complacency.
To his knowledge, none of his offspring had survived to adulthood due to ill timing or the cruelties of humans. There were times when he longed to feel that sensation again but surely he was too old for such things.
