There was something about rain that gave him comfort. He couldn’t pinpoint exactly what it was. Maybe it reminded him of the days that he wasn’t forced to come out of his room and go out to parties and pretend to be a perfect family. Maybe it was the fact the streets were more empty, leaving them more quiet, nothing disturbing the peace besides the sound of the heavy droplets of rain falling down. Maybe he was just a gloomy day type of man. He didn’t know. But it didn’t matter, since those days there were few things that brought him as much peace as a rainy day did. And — as his experience went — when you started questioning them too much, they tended to disappear from his life.
Even the bars seemed to quiet down, the people seemingly wanting to stay in the comfort of his own lives rather than to face the storm outside. Which meant it was the perfect day to have a drink. The Watering Hole was his choice for tonight, Hades’ Lair being too loud for his tastes. He already spent half of his working there either way, spying on the unfaithful husbands’ by request of their suspecting wives.
He entered the bar, somewhat satisfied to see that his assumption was right. It certainly wasn’t empty but not as noisy as per their usual days. Haziel hated loud. Loud everything. Loud colours, loud sounds, loud people. Everything was so goddamn loud those days. He sat at the counter, signaling the bartender. He didn’t need to speak, as he always drank the same. Whisky on the rocks.
