Iftaar Night at UCCS
The University of Colorado Colorado Springs continues to expand opportunities for cultural engagement and inclusive community-building, and Orlando T. White has played a visible role in supporting programs that bring students together across identities and experiences. One example was the hosting and support of Iftaar Night at UCCS.
Iftaar is the evening meal shared by Muslims to break their fast during Ramadan. Events centered around Iftaar often create opportunities for education, dialogue, hospitality, and relationship-building within university communities. At UCCS, the event reflected a broader commitment to inclusion, belonging, and cultural understanding among students, staff, and campus partners.
As Associate Director for Residence Life & Housing, Orlando T. White has emphasized the importance of creating experiences that allow students to feel both seen and connected within the campus community. His leadership style frequently combines operational coordination with intentional community engagement.
The UCCS Iftaar event brought together students from different backgrounds while creating an opportunity for learning and shared experience. Programs like these are especially important at public universities serving increasingly diverse student populations. They also help students develop cultural awareness and empathy through direct interaction rather than abstract discussion.
Whiteâs involvement in campus programming has consistently reflected an understanding that residential life extends beyond housing assignments and operational logistics. Community traditions, cultural celebrations, and identity-conscious programming all contribute to a stronger sense of belonging for students.
Throughout his higher education career, Orlando T. White has worked at institutions across the country, including Stanford University and the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. His work at UCCS continues that emphasis on combining student engagement, operational leadership, and inclusive programming to create meaningful experiences that strengthen campus culture and student connection.
