βΒ Even more disgusting when they offer flowers to each other. As an earth seraph, it pains me to see my gifts of nature being uprooted for this. And let's not get started on the cheesy songs either. My ears bleed.Β β
"Flowers are smelly. The petals just get everywhere, the pollen. And sticky disgusting stuff on the stems. Flowers should stay rooted in the ground and admired that way." Ion couldn't stand the smell of most flowers, as it made him sick to his stomach. "Oh some of the songs i've heard are enough to make me grit my teeth. Oh and when people kiss. Blegh."

Her face scrunches distastefully. βΒ That's too many. How do you even keep track of them? They need a better score keeper. Literally.Β βΒ ( Absolutely, the pun is intended. ) βΒ Ultimately, they're still just one Score, but separated by categories. I didn't know it was so important to have so many, but it sounds dumb, like people are too chicken to expect the unexpected.Β βΒ She thought expecting the unexpected is what makes life interesting for humans. Truly, it's a shame he couldn't destroy it. This whole 'Score' thing sounds stupid to her.
She is mildly surprised. He's a humanβyet he talks of ending this all-important 'Score' that mandates he needs to die, and also being surrounded by idiots who seem to be a class of their own? Interesting... She's so used to humans being optimistic and hopeful like Sorey and Alisha. Then again, there are many types of humans out there. Edna hates them all, but despite herself, she made some exceptions.Β
βΒ I'm what they call a 'seraph.' More precisely, I'm an earth seraph,Β βΒ Edna explains, flippantly. βΒ Years ago, during the Age of Gods, we seraphim were worshipped like gods for our powers over the four elements. I'm not actually from that period of time, so I don't know much, but simply put: my powers of earth is what allows me to become closer to nature.Β βΒ She looks at Ion calmly. βΒ And normally, humans need high resonance to see seraphim. But after hearing about the 'Score,' I'm inclined to believe you're not an average human, seeing how you were destined to die and all.Β βΒ
Edna closes her umbrella and props it on the ground like a cane. βΒ My name is Edna. I'll spare you the rest of the boring details, but that's pretty much the summary of why I get offerings.Β βΒ She feigns a teacher-like voice: βΒ Got it? Any questions from the class?Β Β β
Ah, it made him content that someone else got it. Truly the score was stupid. It was the reason why he wanted Vans help in destroying it. Enough about that subject however. Ion listened to her explanation about being a seraph. And a earth seraph to be precise. Interesting. "Worshipped like gods. Power over the elements, that is amazing." And humans need high resonance to see these seraphim.
"You would be right about that. But since I can see you, it means I have high resonance. Or like you said it's because I am not an average human." And here the whole time Ion thought he was just speaking to another human like himself. But no, he had been speaking with a seraph.
"Edna, a pretty name. And I do have a few more questions. How many other seraphs are there? Do you know any of the other seraphs of the different elements? One more thing. Do you have a favorite flower?"
That was the gist of it, at least as far as Asch knew. The most he could do was nod in response to what the Fon Master had said. No point in repeating it.
"Hmph. And here I thought you wouldn't need to worry about anyone watching your back. But it makes sense. It'd suck if you got yourself in a situation where you needed help and had none," he said. With how much power was likely required to read the Score, Asch just kind of... thought maybe the extra protection wouldn't be needed. Like maybe Tritheim was being paranoid. Or would it be Mohs? Either way, it sounded a little annoying. But necessary, he reflected after a moment. Not even the most powerful soldiers could do everything on their own.
That must have been why Van needed the God-Generals. But Van already was powerful. Too powerful. But he shook the thought away, brow arching as Ion continued to speak. Be careful of what he asked.
"You sound like Van," he commented. How many times had Van told him much the same thing? Don't ask questions, or 'everything will be clear in time.' Or something to that effect. He huffed. "But fine. Keep your secrets, Fon Master."
"I know all too well about having to watch my back," he said. If he didn't, no one would. Maybe Van was the exception, but given how Asch had gotten there in the first place... he had days where he doubted it.
"I shall. And ugh, do not compare me to Van. Or rather. Say I sound like him. He's always so grumpy and has a serious expression all the time." Ion would rather not be told he sounded like Van. It was already tiring enough that the Fon Master had to hear lecture after lecture from him.
Ion was not doubting Asch. Since different things kept them both busy, Ion was somewhat grateful that the other had taught him a few things about defending. Fixing his stance, and what not. "I think all of this teaching has worn me out. I think I might go read, and drink some tea. Did you want to come with me?"
After all this, they could both use a break. He had nothing else better to do at the moment. Sure if anyone saw them together there would surely be questions raised, but Ion didn't care. All he had to do was shoot a look at people and they would think twice about questioning anything he does.
βΒ Well, lucky for you that you're at this mountain then,Β βΒ she says, lazily gesturing around the empty terrain, then looking over her shoulder at the Rayfalke shrine. βΒ I purposely picked a secluded place to live at. The only times humans ever come up here is to pray at the shrine over there and leave offerings for me. I'm sure those idiots plaguing you won't think to come here.Β βΒ It's her way of saying that he's welcomed here. Anyone who understands the woes of being surrounded by idiots is good in her book.
Her eyes widen briefly. βΒ You... were supposed to die? And something called the 'Score' is supposed to determine that for you?Β βΒ Well, that hits a little close to home for her: being cursed into a dragon is sort of like a predetermined fate, isn't it? Can you even fight against fate if it'll catch up eventually?Β Edna pauses and exhales, thoughtfully. That's still none of her business, so she amends with, βΒ The fates led you here for now, but as you can see, it's barren. Feel free to stick around if you want. It's been a while since I've met someone as interesting as you. You're... not a human, are you?Β Β β
Ion followed her gaze and looked over towards the shrine. Fascinating. So humans would come here to pray and leave offerings for her, it was for him lovely to learn new things. Wait, why would humans leave her offerings? That was a question which just popped into his mind. Perhaps he would ask in a bit.
"The 'Score' is a part of many scores, since there isn't just one. Yulia's score, the Open score which determines fortune and happiness and then the Closed score which predicts casualties, deaths and destruction." Hmm was he forgetting any. Oh there was one more. "Also the Planetary score, which records the entire life of the planet. I wanted to destroy the score, however I never got that chance."
It was not a goal for him anymore. If those fools still want to follow the masses, and create their own destruction. So be it. If that is what fate had in store. "True it may be barren, but I find it peaceful here. And yes, I am a human. My name is Ion. What about you? Why would humans leave you offerings? Are you some kind of deity or goddess?"
"Of course I-" He tried not to look flustered by his own lack of knowledge regarding the Fon Master's fighting skills. Too late for that, though. Asch was caught. The flames of anger dissipated, but he still looked annoyed.
"...Of course he didn't," Asch finally said. Van had kept him away from the vast majority of the cathedral's residents as he'd grown. That included the Fon Master. He didn't expect Ion to know that much, though. Though considering Van seemed to be pretty close to a lot of people within the cathedral, he wouldn't have been surprised if Ion knew something about it.
"Master Van only told me enough to get by as I went through my training," he decided to say. Nothing suspicious there, as far as he could tell. "It makes sense your fighting style would revolve around a staff, though. I've seen you with one often enough." Truthfully, though, a part of him thought the staff had just been for show. Apparently he'd been wrong.
One thing struck him as odd, though.
"If you know how to fight, then why do you need guardians?" Not that he'd seen any apart from Arietta on occasion, but the question stood.
A smirk. Aha, so even some secrets were kept from Asch. Ion merely wanted to test the other to see how much he actually knew. Or did he? Only the Fon Master knew that answer. "I think I understand. There are things even you don't need to know, and better left unsaid."
He never went anywhere without his staff. All Asch has to know was that it was his weapon, and how he used it was his business. "To protect me. Even if I can fight, I need guardians who can protect me should I not be able to to stop all attacks." He'd be invincible if he could prevent all possible attacks from hitting him.
"Look. You better be careful about what questions you ask. The answers could have consequences, and it's best if you don't stick your nose too far into my personal affairs." Ion would hate to have to take drastic measures if the questions got into uncharted waters. "You can never be too careful these days, and always have to watch your back."

βΒ Not frightening,Β βΒ she begins, rolling her eyes, βΒ just stupid. He never listens when people tell him to put on a shirt, and he tries waaay too hard with his whole 'I'm a lone wolf' shtick. He needs to learn more words other than 'babe' in his vocabulary. Consider yourself lucky that you've never met him.Β βΒ And she still doesn't know why Zaveid won't tell her about her brother. He's always avoiding the question, and he's just a menace to her these days. Really, Edna is tired every time she sees him.Β
She actually feels something akin to sympathy. βΒ Let's see... You're stuck with people misinterpreting you as a sweet little fawn, stuck dealing with some giant oaf who can't follow instructions, and needing to stay sane from some sissy who floats on a chair? Sucks to be you. βΒ Boy, and she thought she had it rough. At least Sorey and Mikleo have common sense. ( Most of the time. ) Even Zaveid sounds better than some of these people. βΒ Faking death to continue living: how ironic,Β βΒ she remarks, mildly. βΒ But good on you. Best to be free than to be saddled with more idiots in the long run. You're still wandering even now?Β Β β
Yeah, he would never want to run into this guy. Ion will also make a note of it should he run into said shirtless man, ever. He let out a laugh. This girl pretty much decribed each of the people he mentioned in good detail. "Ha, haha. Yeah well I don't have to deal with them anymore. Unless I either make the mistake of running into them." Besides Ion had his replacement taking care of things.
"Ironically I was supposed to die. Where i'm from we have something called the score. It told me when I was supposed to pass, however. I wanted to change my fate. My replica would still take over for me and I would fight fate and escape death." While it had not been easy to find a cure, if he did use his artes he still suffered severely and paid a heavy price. "Yes. I am. While I wanted the trash of a world i'm from to burn away, the thought hit me to leave it to its own fate and just wander to wherever the road takes me."
"Of course I do," Asch huffed. "But it can't hurt to know something else. In... case something happens."
He didn't expect the Fon Master to listen to someone like him, anyway. He was just one of Master Van's followers. For reasons, of course, he had no way to know the Fon Master might have supported. But he only knew the way of the sword and some of that of fonic artes. It made sense to teach the Fon Master what he knew.
He looked, still, despite that. Ion's posture was better, and the defensive position looked more accurate to what Asch remembered of his own training. Tentative though it was, he did bob his head up and down. Approval.
"Better," Asch said.
"What is your fighting style, anyway?" Was it improper to ask the Fon Master that? Probably. Asch's tact apparently was in another cathedral, though.
What was his fighting style? It should be that obvious shouldn't it. Well. Being Fon master, and since he had Van and others by his side. Including Arietta, he had no reason to fight. However, that didn't mean he was weak. He could defend himself if he needed to. Ion would humor Asch though, just to poke at him.
"My fighting style is of course with a staff, and amplified with magic. Didn't Van tell you? Or didn't you know at all? This is important stuff you're supposed to know. Ah well. It matters not, you know now and besides I don't need to lift a finger to fight unless needed. There are those who would protect me should things ever become dangerous."

And hitting on woman. Disgusting." Ruins though. It wasn't so bad to learn about old history. Anyways about him. Yeah no one was around to hear him, so let it all out he shall.
"I agree. We do. I have a replica who is fragile as a new born fawn that has taken my place as Fon Master. He is so sickenly sweet that it disgusts me. And then a man I once worked with, he saved another one of the replicas from the volcano. Trash the lot of them. People can't do what they are asked. Another idiot is named Dist. Always floating around in his chair and in my opnion a crazy loon." And Asch well he wasn't so much a idiot, and Arietta. She was the only truly loyal to him. "I faked my death, to find a cure and now just wander places."
