Læraðr

An unusual magical tree found in Scandinavia, Læraðrs are known to often be locations of of executions and murders  and can grow to quite a large size. While some speculate it may be a cousin to the vampiric Japanese Jubokko tree no evolutionary link has yet been seen, and it is generally considered to be much more closely related to Scandinavian Yggdrasil trees. beyond it’s historical usage as a tree of executions and murder, Læraðrs are also known to be the tree most preferentially grazed on by magical deer and goats, who are often said to produce a sweeter milk when doing so.

Læraðr wood is rarely harvested, though there are two large specimens on the grounds of Durmstrang which are periodically trimmed by tree-surgeons, the wood divided between magical cabinet makers, who use the wood for Vanishing Cabinets, and a few magical wandmakers who are willing to take wood they have not personally harvested. The wood of Læraðrs is known to turn black when imbued with enchantments (as it is to make Vanishing Cabinets) but retains its rich red-orange shades when simply carved into a shape or used to only channel magic, as is the case with wands. This is known to confuse a large number of wixes, and has kept the tree a close subject of study by many magical theorists.

“A black smith takes their time and I don’t have the time. I need a sword in the next hour if I wish to receive the second part of my pay, and the royal armoury at least has something decent.” Lips drew as Art gritted out. Her arm hurt, and so did her head ( from where some insistent bandit managed to punch ) and this man was getting on her nerve. 

KING. Great, where was Artemisia’s luck today? Not only had her second-favourite sword shattered, but she got caught by the king’s servant. 

“So you will understand, I do not have time to track Sir whoever he is out. Nor do I wish to speak to his squire. I know those lords, they don’t pay well,” Oh, but bartering with the king’s servant was NOT a good decision. Art was going to take the chances.

“Let’s see, I’ll borrow this sword for a few hours, a day at best, and I’ll pay you to keep silent.” She arched a brow, showing the man her satchel again. It was full, and she’d receive a second one like this once she infiltrated the bandit’s camp.

                      “I can’t let you just leave with that sword.” He folded his arms over his chest. “You realize this is the castle, right? I don’t know how you even got in here, but you can’t just come in here and take as you please. That’s why we have guards.” Though, hell of a job they were doing if she got this far before being stopped. He’d have to mention that to Arthur.
