Wardrobe Refresh
"Shopping, you say?"
You had brought up the idea just as you and Nulla had finished breakfast, the latter now in the middle doing the dishes from your meal.
"Yeah, I mean, we've been doing pretty typical couple stuff lately, but we haven't had a dedicated shopping day. Besides, it would be nice to refresh your wardrobe for once."
You gesture to the same red-vest-and-slacks outfit he wears all the time. He looks down at it himself and tugs at the hem of his vest a little.
"I guess I have been cycling through the same clothes for a while..."
"Great! So it's settled!" You stand from your seat, pushing your chair back into the table before making your way over to Nulla and excitedly pulling him towards the bedroom. "Go get dressed first, you take forever to get ready!"
Nulla simply laughs, not resisting in the slightest as you drag him around. "By that logic, shouldn't you be getting ready first?"
"No, this way, you're pressured by the thought of me waiting for you to finish up so I can have my turn."
He shrugs, admittedly impressed by your reasoning. "Fair enough. I'll only take thirty minutes maximum, mi vida."
"You're insufferable."
---
The shopping district thankfully wasn't as crowded as it would be on a typical weekend. The two of you could take as much time as you wished to explore the various stores to your heart's content.
"We should get lighter clothes this season since it's already gotten so hot. I don't get how you can survive this heat wearing so many layers..."
Nulla simply hums in acknowledgement, his gaze fixed on the outfits displayed in the store windows.
You soon realize he's stopped following you, his attention caught by a particular store. You take a few steps back towards him and peer up at the window yourself.
"That's a nice top."
You raise a brow at his interest, following his line of sight to the yellow blouse on one of the display mannequins. "...You want it?"
Nulla almost immediately barks out a "Hah!" in response. "No, no, I just meant in general. I can't stand those kinds of fabrics." He says, gesturing to the hems of the chiffon blouse.
Your brows knit together at his oddly specific refusal, but you shrug it off in favour of moving on with the rest of the shopping trip. You loop an arm around his and pull him along down the street...
...Though after about an hour of perusing, the two of you end up with one singular bag.
"...When I said "refresh your wardrobe", I didn't exactly mean buy basically identical outfits in different colors..."
Nulla pouts a little as he looks at the blue vest he had just bought. "They're not completely identical, see? This one's knitted!" He says, holding it up with a proud smirk for emphasis.
"You know what I mean..." You huff, taking the vest from him and folding it up to put back in the bag. "I know menswear only comes in so many options, but don't you want to branch out a little? Get more than just the same ensemble?" You ask, tilting your head in earnest. "I wanted to take you on a shopping trip to get you some nice new clothes, after all."
He simply chuckles. "Careful, cariño, if you spoil me like this now, I might just take advantage of it in the future~"
"I'm serious! Come on, you've got to want to expand even a little, right?" You insist, tugging at his arm again. "What about that blouse you said was nice earlier?"
He huffs out a nervous laugh as you recall the top from earlier. "That's women's clothing, no? Are you seriously saying you think that kind of style would suit me?"
You take both his hands in yours, leaning in towards him to hold his gaze intently.
"You do have a female form... I mean, isn't there some part of you that's a little curious about "that kind of style?" Just a little?"
Nulla's eyes widen slightly at the question. His lips purse, then press into a thin line before a wince escapes him, as if he were physically trying to push out a response.
"...Mmmmmaybeeee...?"
The grin that next appears on your face practically stretches ear to ear. "See? You'll look great, I promise."
Nulla sighs fondly as you drag him back to the stores. "Ah, you're so lucky I find you irresistible, mi vida."
---
You had dragged Nulla around the store with the top he had stopped to look at, insisting he try on whatever he looked at for more than a second. It wasn't long before you had practically pushed him into the dressing room with an armful of clothes, reassuring him that you'd guard the stall from outside.
"I'm starting to feel unsure about this," you hear him mumble from behind the curtain.
"How are you doing in there?" You ask, leaning against the wall next to the changing stall he's in.
"Ah... Not necessarily bad, more... Well, it's certainly a change from my usual attire..." As you glance downwards, you catch a glimpse of his shadow under the curtain, nervously shifting his weight from one foot to the other, "It feels nice in a way? But it's also sort of odd seeing myself like this..."
You feel a pang in your chest at his words, something in you urging you to ease his insecurities. You did convince him to try on these clothes after all, so you figure it's only fair that you encourage him.
"Can I see?"
Nulla's shadow under the curtain stops shifting for a moment as you ask that.
"...Come into the stall..."
You see his fingers peek out of the edge of the curtain as he holds it open just enough for you to slip in without anyone else seeing him.
"...Woah..."
Nulla stood against the corner of the stall, now dressed in a yellow, off-shoulder ruffled blouse and white gaucho pants. You had convinced him to try on a pair of heels to complete the look.
Though despite the added height the heels gave him, his insecurity made him seem smaller than normal.
You smile and take his hands, which have been fiddling nervously with the ruffled hems of the blouse's sleeves.
"You look great."
He finally meets your gaze, the slightest hint of a smile returning to his lips. "You really think so?"
"Yeah!" You exclaim, the excitement in your voice evident. "Even as you are now, all this looks great on you, though I won't stop you if you'd wanna wear something like this with a female form."
He chuckles and shakes his head. "No, I think I'll keep wearing it this way, I'm quite fine like this, surprisingly...." He walks over to the full-length mirror against the wall and assesses his new outfit from head to toe. "And you're sure it doesn't look odd or—"
You shake your head and wrap your arms around him from behind in a brief hug. "Positive. Let's buy it!"
You detach from him and slip out of the stall, urging him to change back so the two of you could make your purchases and head home. As you close the curtain, the soft giddy noise that he lets out does not escape your ears.
Safe to say, this was a successful shopping day.
