Sunday under the covers with Marcus Mumford and Justin Hayward-Young performing a cover of Bob Dylanâs âDonât Think Twice Itâs Alrightâ in a high school gymnasium during the Mumford and Sons Fan Page Gentlemen of the Road tour.ďťż Unofficial estimates (mine) :-) have this song being covered at least a million times.:)
Donât Think Twice, Itâs All Right
It ainât no use to sit and wonder why, babe It donât matter, anyhow Anâ it ainât no use to sit and wonder why, babe If you donât know by now When your rooster crows at the break of dawn Look out your window and Iâll be gone Youâre the reason Iâm travâlinâ on Donât think twice, itâs all right
It ainât no use in turninâ on your light, babe That light I never knowed Anâ it ainât no use in turninâ on your light, babe Iâm on the dark side of the road Still I wish there was somethinâ you would do or say To try and make me change my mind and stay We never did too much talkinâ anyway So donât think twice, itâs all right
It ainât no use in callinâ out my name, gal Like you never did before It ainât no use in callinâ out my name, gal I canât hear you anymore Iâm a-thinkinâ and a-wondârinâ all the way down the road I once loved a woman, a child Iâm told I give her my heart but she wanted my soul But donât think twice, itâs all right
Iâm walkinâ down that long, lonesome road, babe Where Iâm bound, I canât tell But goodbyeâs too good a word, gal So Iâll just say fare thee well I ainât sayinâ you treated me unkind You could have done better but I donât mind You just kinda wasted my precious time But donât think twice, itâs all right
âDonât Think Twice, Itâs All Rightâ is a song written by Bob Dylan in 1962, recorded on November 14 that year, and released on the 1963 album The Freewheelinâ Bob Dylan and as a single.
In the liner notes to the original release, Nat Hentoff calls the song âa statement that maybe you can say to make yourself feel better⌠as if you were talking to yourself.â The song was written around the time that Suze Rotolo indefinitely prolonged her stay in Italy. The melody is based on the public domain traditional song âWhoâs Gonna Buy Your Chickens When Iâm Goneâ The melody was taught to Dylan by folksinger Paul Clayton, who had used the melody in his song âWhoâs Gonna Buy You Ribbons When Iâm Gone?â.
As well as the melody, a couple of lines were taken from Claytonâs âWhoâs Gonna Buy You Ribbons When Iâm Gone?â, which was recorded in 1960, two years before Dylan wrote âDonât Think Twiceâ. Lines taken word-for-word or slightly altered from the Clayton song are, âT'ainât no use to sit and wonder why, darlinâ,â and, âSo Iâm walkinâ down that long, lonesome road.â On the first release of the song, instead of âSo Iâm walkinâ down that long, lonesome road babe, where Iâm bound, I canât tellâ Dylan sings âSo long, honey babe, where Iâm bound, I canât tellâ. The lyrics were changed when Dylan performed live versions of the song and on cover versions recorded by other artists. -Wikipedia

I ainât saying you treated me unkind You couldâve done better, but I donât mind You just kind of wasted my precious time But donât think twice, itâs alright
