   Oh, dear.   Not only was Satin in an appointment when she got this, Shade also thinks she’s blocked the Pearl’s number ?   Satin’s going to have to do some investigating into that, because she’s done nothing of the sort.   Her sisters and mother know better than to play a prank like that, don’t they ?

“Whoa, Topaz! What’s up?” Bismuth would have asked a much different question, but she saw the fire resting in Topaz’s palms. Her eyes lit up. She knew that rubies had plenty of fire power, and that she and Garnet were both heat resistant, but this was an entirely new development.

He watched the flame for a bit, “This is the best I can do at the moment. But I’m already thinking of ways I can incorporate this into my weapon.” A larger blast perhaps, or farther shots, or...

Topaz nodded, “That’s good, sis. As for me, I’m going to be host a field trip for Peridot’s botany class, knowing a few tricks of the trade myself. I’ll show them around Tapas Island, teach them about hydroponics and other alternative growing methods, and even let them sample some of last year’s harvest. Stored in a pocket dimension to ensure freshness, of course. I came here early so I can find Peridot’s greenhouse.”

That was of course not to mention the busy week the island’s residents had to clean up and make a good impression for the class.

“Oh, that sounds like fun!” Topaz had heard about Peridot’s horticultural class. The idea of going on a field trip sounded like fun to her, too. She almost wanted to ask if she could come along. The only reason she didn’t ask was because she wasn’t in the class.

“I hope you have fun on that field trip. I’ve never been to Tapas Island, but it sounds like a nice place,” she said. As it happened, though, Topaz did know where the greenhouse was. She could help Topaz out!

“That is rather far fetched!” Amber agrees, “Toby and I have had dreams like that. He’s said something about being a centaur with fire powers, and I’ve had dreams where I could spin silk from by fingers.”

“That is strange,” Lapis admitted. She hadn’t thought Amber would be able to relate with her. Still, her gaze turned to her sketchbook. Fingers brushed against the page it was open to.

“Actually, now that you mention it...” she continues, Reaching into her purse and pulling out a white piece of cloth. “I’ve taken up embroidery recently, and used what I know to make this.” She passes the cloth to Lapis, stitched into it, the figures from her and Toby’s dreams. An orange centaur, a fireball in his hand, and a yellow-orange woman with threads on her fingertips.

“Since December. Mohra, I think his name is?” Shade shuddered, the Yautja always put her on edge. “I want to be happy for him and Nacre, but I always feel like a have to walk on eggshells around him. I’m afraid of even talking to- No, I’m afraid of the idea of talking to him, that’s how much he unsettles me, Pink.”

‘December’ was a vague term to Pink. While she did know how years passed, ‘December’ could have meant anything. How long ago had the December in question been? Years ago? Just a few months ago? She shook her head, trying not to focus on it too hard before she addressed Shade again.

“Stars…” She murmured her first word. “Maybe you just need to give him a chance? If Nacre likes him as much as you’ve made it sound like she does, there must be a reason.” Poor naive little Pink. Of course she would think that. She wanted to see the best in these sorts of things, even in the face of her own hardships. Mohra may have unsettled Shade, but as far as Pink knew? He hadn’t done anything wrong. Not really.

Then Pink mentioned meeting the Yautja herself.

“Hrk-!” Topaz didn’t even have time to react before his sister pulled him into an embrace. He never was as big or strong as his any of his siblings.

“Hey, Topaz! It’s been a while hasn’t it?”

This was gonna get confusing fast, just calling each other “Topaz”. She needed a nickname. But that would be discussed later.

“It’s good to see you too! How have you been?”

“I’ve been doing so well,” Topaz answered, finally releasing him from the hug. She knew it might get confusing to just call each other Topaz the whole time, but that was how things had been on Homeworld. Even on Earth it wasn’t that much different. Ah well, she thought. They’d work it out eventually.

“Since coming to Earth, I’ve been learning so much! I’ve been taking a lot of Garnet’s classes, and I just feel so much more… at peace with myself. Like it’s okay to be me,” she said. By ‘her,’ she meant being fused all the time. Topaz and Topaz were both happy as could be, especially now that Topaz herself had more of an idea about how her components felt about each other.
