🛟 - you saved me
Timeframe - missing scene from 12x06
Matt is waiting at the firehouse for 61 to get back from Chicago Med. He is still trying to calm his nerves down from the close call that Sylvie had earlier.
A few minutes later 61 gets back to the firehouse. When Matt sees Violet walk into the common room he walks out to see Sylvie.
“Hi,” Sylvie smiles at him.
“Come here,” Matt grabs her hand and leads her into the turnout room.
He pulls her into hug and just holds her for a minute.
“I’m okay, Matt,” she whispers.
He pulls away a little bit but still has his arms wrapped around her. “I know, but you almost weren’t.”
“I know and it was definitely scary, but you saved me.”
“You got away from him, but I’m glad I was there to help, I was terrified.”
Sylvie smiles at him, “you really are always there for me in a crisis.”
He rests his forehead against hers, “and I always will be, I love you.”
“I love you too, and tomorrow it will be forever.” They smile at other as she leans in to kiss him.
It was like a horror movie
I am think set post wedding after Sylvie was held at gunpoint.
It was like a horror movie + hey, look at me it’s not real
Matt and Sylvie have been married for six weeks and this is Sylvie’s second shift at Matt’s firehouse. A spot recently opened up for a PIC position and they have both been enjoying working at the same firehouse again.
It’s late and Sylvie and her partner are out on a call. Matt can’t sleep so he is waiting up in his office for Sylvie to get back. He hasn’t been sleeping well for the past few weeks. He’s been having nightmares about Sylvie being held at gunpoint the day before their wedding, and they have been getting worse. He hasn’t told her about them yet, but he doesn’t think he’ll be able to hide this any longer.
When Sylvie gets back from her call she’s see the light on in Matt’s office and walks toward his office.
“Hey,” Sylvie whispers as she walks inside.
“Hey, how was the call?”
“It was good, we helped a woman with a minor injury, it wasn’t serious. Were you waiting up for me?”
Matt sighs, and grabs her hand leading them over to sit on the bed. “Yeah, and I haven’t been sleeping very well lately.”
“Yeah, I noticed that on the last shift is everything okay?”
Matt closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, “I have been have nightmares about you getting shot.”
Sylvie’s eyes widen, “what? how long have you been having nightmares?”
“A few weeks, I usually get them when I’m on shift. They are always about when you were held at gunpoint right before our wedding.”
Sylvie stays silent for a minute while she takes in this information. She puts her hand on his, “are they the same every time?”
“Usually I’m trying to get to you and I hear the gunshot, sometimes I see you bleeding out.” He closes his eyes and rubs a hand over his face, clearly exhausted. “It’s like a horror movie, I don’t know how to make them stop.”
Sylvie pulls his hand to her chest so he can feel her heart beating and she puts one hand on his cheek. “Hey, look at me it’s not real. I’m right here, I’m not going anywhere.”
Matt kisses her softly, and when he pulls back he puts his forehead against hers and they sit quietly like that for a few minutes.
“Come on, you need sleep. I’ll stay with you.” Sylvie whispers when they pull apart.
Once they lay down Matt pulls her close and she rests her head on his chest. He kisses the top of head and whispers, “I don’t ever want to lose you. I love you so much.”
“I love you too,” she says right before they both fall asleep. It was the most peaceful sleep Matt has had in a while.

This is longer than the others
❤️🩹 - Holiday heart-mending
Timeframe - season 11 during the breakup
Matt just got home from work when he noticed a bunch of texts from 51 came up. He almost forgot he was still on one their group texts. They all seemed really worried about Sylvie.
Stella - So sorry to hear about your mom, let us know if there is anything you need.
Violet - Were all here for you, please keep us updated.
Matt wanted to know more so he decided to text Sylvie privately. Even though they were broken up, this seemed serious so he wanted to reach out
Matt - hey is everything okay? Did something happen? Please let me know if you need anything. Call at anytime. I’m here.
Sylvie replies a few minutes later
- my mom is in the hospital, she collapsed last night, they think she might have had stroke
Matt- I’m so sorry Sylvie, is there anything I can do?
- right now I’m just waiting, I drove up a few hours ago, there hasn’t been much news yet. Thank you for reaching out Matt, it means a lot
Matt- please keep me updated and I’ll keep my ringer on if you need to talk
Sylvie smiled at the last text because she remembers telling him the same thing.
Matt sat there for the next few minutes thinking about how he could be there for her. He couldn’t help but think about Julie and being there for her during that time. He decided to text griffin and Ben and let them know what’s going on especially since they care about Sylvie too. He also asked them if they would be okay for a few days if he flew to Fowlerton to be with Sylvie. They let him know that they would be fine and that Sylvie needed him. He quickly packed a bag and bought a ticket for the first available flight.
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Sylvie sat in the waiting room, thinking about what she was feeling when her dad called and told her. It’s a week before Christmas and she was going to see her parents in a few days, but this isn’t how she thought it would it go. While she was waiting she was reading all the texts from 51 and it made her feel a little better, and seeing the messages from Matt made her like maybe everything was going to be okay, it also made her miss him. She wished he was here sitting next to her.
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
Matt’s plane landed late that night and was anxious to get the hospital and see Sylvie. He took a cab from the airport to the hospital and walked into the waiting room. He saw her sleeping in one of the chairs.
“Sylvie, hey wake up,” he whispered as he gently shook her shoulder to get her to wake up.
Sylvie slowly opened her eyes remembering where she was, “Matt what are you doing here?”
“I wanted to be with you, even to just wait here with you. How is your mom doing?”
“They ran a lot of tests and they confirmed that she did have a stroke, my dad is in there with her now. I was in there for a while but I needed a little time to myself, everything is pretty overwhelming right now. I can’t believe you came all the way here.”
She reached out and hugged him, “thank you Matt” she whispered in his ear.
“Of course, I wanted to be here for you.”
Now that Matt was here with her, all emotions begin to come to the surface.
“I can’t lose her Matt, I can’t go through that again.” She said quietly
Matt pulls away, and leads her to a quiet corner of the waiting room.
“Hey, I’m here for you whatever you need. You can lean on me”
“Thank you, Matt. This isn’t how I thought Christmas this year would go. What about you? Did this ruin your holiday plans? What about the boys?”
“The boys will be okay for a few days and, this won’t ruin any of my plans Sylvie, I just want to be here with you. To help you with anything you need.”
She smiles and puts her head on his shoulder, “You’ve always been there for me when I need it the most.”
He kisses her on the forehead, “and that won’t change.”
❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
A few days later they found out Sylvie’s mom was going to be okay. She had a long recovery ahead and Sylvie planned on taking time off work to stay and help out for at least a few weeks.
When it was time for Matt to leave she drove him to airport when they got out of the car she hugged him tight, “I’m going to miss you Matt, thank you for everything.”
“I’m going to miss you too. I’m glad I could help, let me know if you need anything else, my ringer is always on.”
“Merry Christmas Matt, and tell the boys that as well.” She told him as they pulled away.
“I will, merry Christmas Sylvie.”
“Maybe someday, Matt” she whispers to Matt
“Yeah, Maybe someday Sylvie”
They both walked away feeling like that could be true.

🌨️ - Too much #$%& snow
Timeframe - They have been married for a few years and moved back to Chicago
“Good job sweetie, these cookies are going to be delicious,” Sylvie tells Julia as they are decorating cookies in the kitchen.
“We need more sprinkles mommy”
Sylvie laughs, “okay, just a few more.”
The snow has been coming down almost non stop for the past two days. Matt, Ben and Griffin having been shoveling the driveway for the past hour.
Sylvie hears the front door open, and walks over to the door as they come inside to take a break.
“Thanks for the help guys.” Matt tells griffin and Ben.
Even though griffin and Ben don’t live with Matt and Sylvie anymore they always come to visit for Christmas.
“How much longer can it possibly snow outside?” Ben asks as they are all taking off their boots and coats.
“The weather forecast predicts probably at least another a day or two.” Sylvie replies
“That is too much snow, too much fu-
“Ahh, ah, ah remember there is a child in the house if you want to swear go outside.” Sylvie cuts him off
Matt chuckles at their banter just as Julia comes in to the room and runs into his legs, “daddy, you have to come try the Christmas cookies mommy and I baked.”
“I’d love to sweetie” he says as he picks her up and carries her into the kitchen.
“Come on, griffin and Benny you have to try them to.” Julia tells them
“Yeah, Benny,” Griffen jokes at Julia’s nickname for Ben
“Hey, she’s the only the one that gets to call me that.”
“So, what does everyone want to do later?” Sylvie asks everyone as they are eating the cookies
“We should make snow angels later, mommy.”
“Oh great, more snow,” Ben whispers.
Sylvie laughs lightly, “sounds fun sweetie, then we can watch a Christmas movie after.”
“Yay, Benny can you help me build a snow fort later?” Julia asks sweetly
Ben sighs, “ugh, she makes it impossible to say no.”
Matt laughs, “Oh I know.”

💋- meet me under the mistletoe
Timeframe- living in Oregon, first Christmas as a married couple
“Did I tell you how beautiful you look tonight?” Matt asks as he and Sylvie are slowing dancing at a wedding reception for a another firefighter that Matt works with. Her arms are around his neck and his hands resting on her lower back.
She is wearing a floor length red dress with a matching red lip stick shade, and her hair pinned back in neat bun and a few pieces are curled around her face.
Sylvie smiles at him, “you did, and you look really great in this suit.”
They smile at each other as they sway back and forth.
“It was a beautiful wedding, and having a Christmas wedding made this really wonderful” Sylvie says
“It was, but I think our wedding at the fish store was also really wonderful.”
The both laugh softly, “it was, even though it was unexpected, it was really great.”
After dancing to a few more slow more songs, and talking to other guests, they begin to walk hand in hand toward the exit.
“Hey, Matt hold on a second,” they hear someone call out.
“I’ll grab our coats, and I’ll meet you under the mistletoe.” Sylvie says
“I’ll be right back,” he kisses her on the cheek.
After a few minutes Matt spots Sylvie near the exit. “You ready to go?”
“Wait, I think you owe me a kiss,” she smiles as she points to mistletoe hanging in the doorway above their heads.
He smiles back, “well it is tradition after all” he leans in and kisses her softly
“Merry Christmas, Matt” she’s say as they pull apart.
“Merry Christmas Sylvie, let’s go home to our family,” they smile at each other as walk hand in hand to the parking lot.

💍 - A holiday proposal + 🤒 - I can't be sick on Christmas!
Timeframe - season 10 AU Matt never moved away
It’s Christmas Eve and Sylvie woke up feeling sick.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” Matt asks her as he walks into the bedroom and sits on bed beside her.
“Terrible, I can’t be sick on Christmas.” She tells him
They were planning on driving up to Fowlerton to visit her parents for Christmas.
He gives her a sad smile, “I know, but I think we should just stay here over Christmas so you can rest up. I can call your parents and tell them, they’ll understand.”
She sighs, “yeah you’re right, normally I would argue with you but I’m too weak right now.”
He laughs softly and kisses her forehead.
🤒🤒💍💍
The next day they are sitting on the couch watching tv.
“This isn’t how I thought I our first Christmas together would go, but I’m glad we’re together.” She tell him as she lays her head on his shoulder.
“Me too, these last few months have been pretty great.”
Sylvie smiles softly, “yeah they have been.”
They gave been dating a little over six months and they have living together for three months. Matt is ready to take the next step in their relationship and he doesn’t want to wait any longer.
“I’ll be right back,” he tells her as tells as he walks into the bedroom. He gets the ring box out of the bottom of the sock drawer where he put it a few days ago. He was planning on proposing in Fowlerton, but now here with just the two of them, it feels like the right moment.
He sits next to her on the couch and he pulls out the ring box. “Matt,” she gasps surprised.
He holds her hand. “Sylvie, I love you so much. This may not be how we thought this Christmas would go, but you and me together, that’s how I always want it to be. Will you marry me?”
Sylvie is looking at the ring still shocked. She looks up at him a slow smile appears on her face. “Yes, of course I’ll marry you, Matt. I love you too.”
They’re both smiling as he puts the ring on her finger.
He leans in to kiss her, “wait I don’t want to get you sick,” she says as she moves away from him.
“Sylvie, I’m going to kiss my fianceé, and you can take care of me when I’m sick.”
They smile at each other as he leans in and kiss her softly. This is definitely going to be a Christmas that they will never forget.
Christmas AU Preview
Fake dating but make it Christmas
Sylvie runs her fingers through her hair, propping her knees on the couch cushion. “If I’m going to bring someone to meet my family, it has to be someone extra kind and generous. Someone who isn’t going to expect more. Someone I feel comfortable with.”
Stella’s dark eyes light up with a mysterious hue. Her lips form into a smirk.
“I don like that look,” Sylvie says, an audible edge to her voice.
“Casey,” Stella replies. “You should totally bring Casey.”
What on earth is she talking about?
“Casey?” Sylvie repeats. “Severide’s best friend lieutenant Matt Casey?”
There’s no way she’s serious.
“Oh, come on!” Her friend implores. “You literally just described him. He’s an-all-American Boy Scout and you two have a connection.”
They do not have a connection, and she did not just describe him.
Sure, a lot of the attributes listed are one’s Casey shares but that’s a coincidence. The same could go for a lot of people.
She stands with her empty glass. “Casey and I do not have a connection. We barely know one another.”
Stella scoffs, watching Sylvie busily tidy the living room. “That’s bullshit. You’ve known him for years.”
Sylvie looks at her friend. “And his wife.”
“Ex wife,” Stella corrects.
That doesn’t change much.
“Point is, we’re friends by association. That’s not even a friendship,” Sylvie argues. “That’s like bottom of the barrel relationship status.”
Stella points her finger. “Not true. Anytime we all hang out, you and Casey gravitate to one another.”
Sylvie rolls her eyes. “Of course we do. You and Severide force us in these positions. We’re the third wheels.”
They may hang out in a group setting but it’s always arranged by either Stella or Severide. She and Casey have never casually hung out alone.
“Come on, Brett,” Stella calms her frenzied curls with her hand. “Just the other day, the waitress assumed you and Casey were a thing.”
That’s true but it still doesn’t mean anything. They were sitting on the same side of the table while Stella and Severide were all over one another. It makes sense why the waitress would think they were on a double date.
“Stella…”
Her best friend stands. It’s as if the extra height is going to make her win this discussion.
“Sylvie,” She interupts. “Casey’s the perfect choice. He’s someone you trust, and it would be believable.”
Brettsey holiday prompt
Set after season 11 finale. Brettsey are engaged. This is going to be in two parts.
Part 1 is a Brett family thanksgiving.
Sylvie was currently in the kitchen helping her mom cut some vegetables, while her dad was setting the table and she was thinking about how much has changed in the last few months.
This holiday season was a little more brighter for Matt and Sylvie this year. They’re engaged and even though their relationship is still long distance, they are both on the same page when it comes to planning their future together as a family with Julia, Griffin and Ben.
This is also Julia’s first thanksgiving, and so Sylvie wanted to share that with her parents as well as Matt and the boys. So, they agreed to spend thanksgiving with her family in fowlerton and Julia and Sylvie are going to Oregon for Christmas. The last time Matt and Sylvie saw each other was at Julia’s adoption ceremony six weeks ago, and of course all of 51 was there along with Sylvie’s parents.
“Thank you again for inviting Matt and boys here for thanksgiving.”
“Of course honey, we’re happy to have them here. We missed them last year, what time were they supposed to be here?” Her mom replied.
“They should be here soon, probably any minute.” Sylvie says after she looks at her watch.
Sylvie drove up with Julia, and Matt and the boys got on an early morning flight and then took a rental car from the airport.
Matt and the boys pull up the driveway a few minutes later. Sylvie comes out to greet them as they get out of the car.
“Hey guys, I’m glad you’re here.” She hugs Ben and Griffin first. “It’s good to see you again, I missed you both.”
“We missed you too.”
As she turns to Matt he is smiling at her before pulling her into a quick kiss and a hug. “I missed you.” He whispers in her ear.
“Happy thanksgiving Matt,” she replies as she pull away. “Let’s go inside, the food is ready so we can eat right away.”
“Where’s Julia? I missed her too.”
“She’s taking a nap, the drive here wore her out.”
As they walk inside they are greeted by Sylvie’s parents, as her mom gives all of the hug.
Her dad greets Matt with a handshake, “I’m glad you made it, Son.” He turns to Griffin and Ben “So, boys what game should we play after dinner, charades, Pictionary, or heads up?”
Game night at the Brett house can get pretty competitive, it’s where Sylvie’s competitive nature comes from.
“Any game is fine, as long as Sylvie and Matt are not on the same team this time. They always win.” Griffin replied,.
“Yeah, last time Sylvie came to visit they beat us every game we played. It wasn’t fair.” Said Ben
“Hey, it’s not our fault we make such a great team.” Sylvie replied as she leaned into Matt’s side and he puts an arm around her shoulder.
He chuckles then replies, “Yeah, and we offered to change up the teams, but you always turned us down.”
“That’s because we thought we would eventually win at least one game, but now our pride can’t take it anymore, and I guess we need a different strategy to beat you two.” Griffin says
Sylvie laughs and says, “okay, how about this time let’s draw names out of a hat, but first let’s eat.”
As they go to sit at the table, Julia starts to cry.
“Sounds like she wants to join us, I’ll be right back.” Sylvie says
“I’ll go with you”. Matt says, as they walk down the hall into the bedroom he places his hand on the small of her back.
Sylvie reaches in to pick up Julia up out her crib. “Hey sweetie, did you have a good nap?” She says as she kisses her cheek, holding her in her arms.
Matt gently rubs Julia’s back, “She gotten so big since I’ve last seen her. I feel like I’ve been missing out on a lot.”
Even though Sylvie sends him pictures everyday and new videos of Julia playing, and smiling, sometimes it makes him miss them both even more. He is ready for them all to be a family, in the same house, permanently.
Sylvie gives him a soft smile, “Matt, we miss you too, but us being apart is temporary, around this time next year, we will all be together. That’s why you bought me this” she wiggles her finger to show off her engagement ring.
Matt laughs lightly, “I know, and that’s something I wanted to talk to you about. Over the last few years we have spent a lot time apart, and I would really like that to be over soon, I wanted to ask you what you thought about getting married sooner.”
“How soon were you thinking?”
“Definitely sometime before next fall. I know your whole life is in Chicago, and I would never pressure you into making this decision, but you were right about what you said in the other room, we really are a great team. I would like you to at least think about it though.”
“Matt, of course I’ll think about it. I’m ready for us to be together full time also, and honestly, I’m not sure I want to wait a year either. It does seem really far away.”
“It does, too far.”
“How about this, tonight after everyone else is asleep, you and me will sneak into the kitchen and talk about this over some of my moms famous apple pie. Don’t tell the boys, but I put a few slices in the back of fridge where they wouldn’t find it.”
Matt chuckles, “sounds good, I love you Sylvie.”
“I love you too.” She replies and then kisses him softly.
As they pull apart Griffin comes in, “hey, you better hurry up before Ben eats all the stuffing.”
They laugh as they walk into dining room feeling ready to begin the rest of their lives together.

Finally had time to finish something small I’ve been working touch and go over the last few months.
I’ve been swamped with my master’s program but I’m trying my best to write as often as I can.
This is an angsty one shot set somewhere between 8x1-8x2. It’s canon divergence but I hope you still enjoy it!
