Katherine Clive (alias she uses a lot as an actress, and the one that "dies" in The Two Live Crew Job): based on Kitty Clive - Kitty being short for Catherine - who was a real British stage & musical theatre actress in the mid 1700s. John Rogers said Sophie would’ve chosen the alias bc Kitty Clive was one of the first women to perform Shakespeare. previously, the roles of female characters were performed by men.

Violet Cesario (alias used on a dating app in Leverage: Redemption): based on the Shakespearean character Viola, the protagonist of Twelfth Night. Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario. the play is a romantic comedy in which the use of aliases and disguises causes many problems for the characters. so it’s very fitting for her dating app persona lol. (fun fact: the 2006 movie She’s The Man is a loose modern adaptation of Twelfth Night).

Charlotte Prentiss, Duchess of Hanover: firstly, Hanover is not a real current duchy. there is no duke or duchess of Hanover. but it is the name of a perfectly real place in Germany, and was once an electorate of the Holy Roman Empire and later the Kingdom of Hanover. the House of Hanover is a real German royal house that also produced multiple British monarchs. the alias’ name is possibly based off of Sophia Charlotte of Hanover, who was made the first queen consort of Prussia when she married Fredrick I of Prussia. her older brother became King George I of Great Britain and Ireland. (disclaimer: idk much about british & german history, these details are gained from a quick google search, please lmk if anything’s wrong).

Emily Peal, her consultant alias from The Inside Job. this is presumably a reference to Emma Peel, a character from the 1960s British crime/spy show The Avengers (unrelated to Marvel’s The Avengers). hardison’s alias in the same episode is Jonathan Steed, which would come from John Steed, the main character of The Avengers. while Hardison loves his tv references (there’s plenty Doctor Who aliases), i’m pretty sure this is Sophie’s doing because 1) she seems to be leading the con in this episode and 2) Hardison tends to prefer sci-fi shows, while Sophie goes for the romance and crime type shows. another fun fact: John Rogers has confirmed that "Tara Cole" is a reference to Tara King from The Avengers, the character that essentially took over from Emma Peel when she left the show. much like how Tara (albeit temporarily) takes over from Sophie.

4th community rewatch: troy barnes though similarly superficial at first is such an incredibly complex character and through his cartoonish and exaggerated shenanigans he maintains his level of realism and similarities to real life queer people that overcompensated for so long they feel unconnected to themselves and this is explored in such a complicated but subtle way that though not obvious at first feel way too intentional to not mean something when piled up
