The term dating has evolved. “we are a swipe-right generation”. We turn to online dating more now especially as women, because we are becoming more career oriented than family oriented. It makes sense in this generation, a good living wage is a lot harder to come by. It also makes online dating more popular because we don’t have the time anymore to go wait at a bar for Mr right, all we have to do is swipe through a bunch of profiles on our lunch break.

With technology we don’t have to worry about what we say to people because we don’t have to actually see them. Online dating may change the way singles try to communicate.

Some college students believe that inline dating apps killed the dating scene. But really its the growing popularity for not committing to one person. The difference between online dating for men and women is women are more likely to choose a profile based on income more than physical features, and men are more likely to choose profiles based on attractiveness. I think this is the problem a lot of people have with online dating, which also leads to false profile information and all of those online dating gone wrong memes. There is a chance in online dating that you will find a few misleading profiles, but people also lie about things like income and interests in real life too.

If you are looking for a fast and easy find for a life partner, its not likely anything could help you. Online dating is meant to help you meet people you may never have been able o before, it doesn’t produce love right before your eyes. Yes they use fancy algorithms but it doesn’t do all of the work for you. Millenials use online dating because its convenient, don’t confuse convenience with miracle worker. 

59% of people in 2013, an increase in 13% from the previous generation, say they thought online is a good way to meet people. Some scholars think that the only thing online dating goes is increase the dating pool. This may be true but that’s much more helpful than sitting at a bar. They also say that the algorithms may find a match but that’s just half the battle. The other person still has to be attracted to you. Love is always a risk.
