The Bog lurker A dragon that patiently pretends to be lilypads and aquatic vegetation waiting for the perfect moment to strike. Bog lurkers rely entirely on water, and barely leave it. Their young are undeveloped, tadpole-like and swim next to them following via the release of a milky substance that is produced on the parent's lower jaw. it lacks nutritional value and is confusing as to what is used for asides for guiding their young.

The Golden Apple rather ingeniouslyĀ updates Homerās Iliad andĀ OdysseyĀ to turn of the 20th century Washington State. With music by Jerome Moross and lyrics by John LaTouche, the show is through-sung and near operatic, though unfortunately the original Broadway cast album contained only highlights.
This particular song in the second act been an ear worm for me lately. Ulysses (Stephen Douglass), Achilles (Julian Patrick) and Doc (Gary Gordon) are halfway through their ten year odyssey and along the way encounter a female scientist (Portia Nelson) who rather cheerily sings about the ways in which the world is āDoomed, Doomed, Doomed.ā She then sends Doc up in a rocket ship she invented, but hasnāt any idea how to bring him back.
Thinking about how everyone in my screening of Maddie's Secret laughed at this moment... I was seeing something different than them.
I think it's sooo funny that going viral on TikTok or whatever meant that Phoebe Bridgers/Mitski/Ethel Cain/etc. got stuck with annoying twitter stans, but in a way it makes sense because their music is very emotionally vulnerable so of course impressionable young people would imprint on them like baby ducklings and develop a parasocial bond. But like. The disconnect between the vibes of their music (reflective, emotionally intelligent) and the vibes of their fanbases (not that) is camp.
I think it's part of a larger issue where in the digital age where all fandom culture has kinda become flattened and homogenous. People will "learn" the current "language" of fandom and then proceed to use it for everything, even when it isn't appropriate, so now indie sadgirl music fans talk like pop music fans just like people are writing Hamilton cannibal mermaid smut like the founding fathers are Winchesters. Everything is just content, nothing is sacred.

It's still so camp that the score for Smash was so vocally intensive that they had to split the Marilyn songs between like four different women
Another unmistakable Fred Ebb lyric and also so perfectly tailored to the performer
So on iconic tv show NBC's Smash there were a few songs that were sung multiple times by different characters, but the one I find the most interesting is "I Never Met A Wolf Who Didn't Love To Howl" because they actually changed some lyrics for its second pass, something they didn't do for the others.
There's an intro section and a bit of bridge that gets lost between the versions, but it's the second verse that gets completely rewritten.
Here's the original:
A wealthy wolf likes to buy his toys But he really is just one of the boys If you've got something for which he's cravin' It sure is good that he's been savin' Be a fan, give his cheek a peck But get his autograph on a cashier's check [Chorus] Even if that wolf's just a grey old goat He still will make a nice fur coat!
And here's the revised version, which I would guess they changed to reflect that the song is supposed to be a USO performance for the troops:
The enemy wolves are just like boys They use their big artillery like playground toys But when they see my ammunition in all its splendor I'll easily negotiate complete surrender 'Cuz the medals on my chest will make 'em weak in the knees And I promise I won't rest 'til we're all at ease [Chorus] 'Cuz a boy with a gun thinks it's fun to shoot And that's a real big 21-gun salute
And then, interestingly, the shortened version that ended up in the Broadway show scraps both of these and adds a new first verse instead, giving the original first verse the second slot:
Hey Korea, let the bugle blow I'm here to bring some comfort to the USO I understand wars and the plans it deserves I've been fighting off wolves since I first grew curves In Hollywood the enemy are all on the take But they give themselves away with all the growls they make [Chorus] Every casting department's full of love landmines But I never let them trample over my front lines
I think the first one is the best because some of the phrasing in the second version is a bit awkward, but the third version is just the pits. Idk why they insisted on massacring all of their lyrics for Broadway!
Thinking about how in the Actor's Fund benefit concert production of Bombshell they had Ann Harada do the Korean War USO number
I told a guy his total was 13.21 and he said āwish it were that year, could actually get some good music on the radioā

you know how there's all those ancient mythical steels that can't be reproduced in modern day because the techniques are completely lost
the internet equivalent of that is the y2k otaku wallpaper aesthetic. you can't make those anymore, only forgeries that mimic the originals

The Kitchen Entity came crawling out of the oven vent, and now it just hovers here in the middle of the room, like some kind of domesticated jellyfish. When you turn on the microwave, it crackles like a geiger counter. On warm days, it smells like mom's special m&m pancakes.
