They announced a 13 Going On 30 reboot, but they've already cast two pretty white people to play the leads, which I think is a little boring, so here's my fresh take on how they should do it:

Young!Jenna is an AMAB egg struggling with compulsory heterosexuality who doesn't understand she is trans until she wakes up as Adult!Jenna post transition into a fabulous trans woman.

Young!Matty is an AFAB egg who Jenna does not consider as a romantic prospect because she is not into girls, a problem that is solved when Adult!Jenna seeks out Adult!Matty and discovers that he is now a hot guy.

Evil best friend character Lucy is an anti-vaxxer, something Jenna does not catch onto because she magically skipped past the peak of the pandemic and doesn't realize COVID is a thing.

Comedy ensues.

I do really love this song from Big The Musical and think the show is stronger with it (it was not in the Broadway production, which flopped) but also like… girl the context T_T you just can’t think about it too hard or your eyebrow will raise.

The Winter Maw, 2026

a totally handmade, fully-functional marionette created for the annual "Winter Exquisite" gallery show (this year's chosen medium was puppetry) at the Forbes Library in Northampton, MA - if you're local, you can visit anytime between the 7th & the end of the month!

for the winter theme, i designed a monster that blends my appreciation of this season's beauty with a more sinister, predatory element representing struggles against seasonal depression. bringing her to life was a huge learning experience & i got to try out a lot of new materials/techniques - i'd never made a marionette before! she took me all January but i'm very pleased with the result.

Their young are undeveloped, tadpole-like and swim next to them following via the release of a milky substance that is produced on the parent's lower jaw. it lacks nutritional value and is confusing as to what is used for asides for guiding their young.

The Golden Apple rather ingeniously updates Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey to turn of the 20th century Washington State. With music by Jerome Moross and lyrics by John LaTouche, the show is through-sung and near operatic, though unfortunately the original Broadway cast album contained only highlights.

This particular song in the second act been an ear worm for me lately. Ulysses (Stephen Douglass), Achilles (Julian Patrick) and Doc (Gary Gordon) are halfway through their ten year odyssey and along the way encounter a female scientist (Portia Nelson) who rather cheerily sings about the ways in which the world is “Doomed, Doomed, Doomed.” She then sends Doc up in a rocket ship she invented, but hasn’t any idea how to bring him back.

I think it's sooo funny that going viral on TikTok or whatever meant that Phoebe Bridgers/Mitski/Ethel Cain/etc. got stuck with annoying twitter stans, but in a way it makes sense because their music is very emotionally vulnerable so of course impressionable young people would imprint on them like baby ducklings and develop a parasocial bond. But like. The disconnect between the vibes of their music (reflective, emotionally intelligent) and the vibes of their fanbases (not that) is camp.

I think it's part of a larger issue where in the digital age where all fandom culture has kinda become flattened and homogenous. People will "learn" the current "language" of fandom and then proceed to use it for everything, even when it isn't appropriate, so now indie sadgirl music fans talk like pop music fans just like people are writing Hamilton cannibal mermaid smut like the founding fathers are Winchesters. Everything is just content, nothing is sacred.

#First noticed this when the Falsettos revival happened and tumblr got a hold of it #which like listen I know we would make shitposts and kiki about the show #but it was a MUCH different vibe than what the kids after us were doing
