199X kid

Traveling was something he didn’t do very often. He tired easily so he didn’t often wander unless he was in search of something. Now was one of those times. He was exhausted but he took the time to appreciate the chamomile. Though they were small, Doc found something to enjoy about them. He knelt down and inhaled lightly. “Mn, one day they’ll be ready for that. For now… keep givin’ ‘em that love. It’s helped ‘em get this char- erm, far.” He adjusted his glasses. “I think they got a lil’ more in them. Not much more…” From the leather pack at Doc’s side, he pulled a tiny pouch and began to sprinkle a fine purple powder into the earth surrounding the chamomile. “There… Jus’ a few more hays- erm, days… A stovely lart- ah, no. A lovely start. Ya did great!” He beamed at Ness. “Firs’ time gardenin’? Or first time wit’ a picky plant?””

                              Ness takes a few steps away , he almost feels a little embarrassed now. His sad, sickly plant was a harsh reminder as to why he aught to not touch plants in the first place. The boy watches the other intently. Trying to gather as much information as one could. His mothers voice echoed in his thoughts. 

‘Listen to your elders, they might surprise you!’ 

Did he have to  listen to THIS one? His arrival sure was surprising, after all. “Would y’ accept both as an answer? Ma’ and I been gardenin’ forever! Seen alotta plants thrive n’ shrivel up to nothin. First plant on my own, though. Pretty pathetic if y’ask me. STILL dunno how she does it!” He motions over to a small vined trellis, seemingly being smothered by morning glories! They almost looked like they could stretch up to the windows soon enough. 

                                Should he say something? Truth is--he was a wee bit wary of his visitor. And this was coming from a kid who’d seen practically everything! ... Well.. almost.         

                                    “Hey-- um. I Grew those myself, yanno! Quite a sight , aren’t they? .. Go on- you can pluck one!” The boy motions over to the slightly wimpy chamomile bush... okay.. really wimpy.

“…”

The young ninja blankly stared at the boy for some period of time. He did just slip in the purchase before she could protest again. And he paid for ALL of it.

“…Th-…Th-That’s no fair!” she cried, “I-I barely know what terms ‘n conditioner is! A-And we’re basic strangies t-to each other!”

While the little managed to restrain some tears she was grateful for the boy’s generosity…but she felt she didn’t deserve it!

Ana rapidly shakes her head at the boy, “Nonononono! I-I-I can’t ask of you to do that! I-I already got a good cuddly!”

This was embarrassing. Ana tried to keep her own cuddly toy a secret because the other kids at kindy and ninja school (mainly the latter) made fun of her for that.

“I-I’ll still do the thingie th-tho, I-I promise! C-Cause it’s nice of you to offer!”
