Eyes narrowing as she stared up at the other, Ruby couldn’t believe Hadley had the hide to say any of this at all. She always did this! Twisted the situation around to make Ruby look like the bad guy when it was always, always Hadley’s fault. It had always been that way, in Ruby’s opinion. Which was part of the reason she held onto so much distrain for the other. If Hadley would just grow up and admit she messed up, then Ruby would gradly move past this whole thing. Yet there she was, wanting Ruby to deny the truth. Lie just so Hadley could save her reputation. 

“I’ve apologized to you, Ruby. I admitted my faults. But it wasn’t good enough for you then and I’m not about to do it again. Get over it. We aren’t children anymore. We don’t have to like each other - I can hardly stand the sight of you. But I know you and I know you just love playing the victim. And I’m not going to be the person who goes down because you aren’t over something that happened years ago. So yeah, I jabbed you in the ribs. I don’t like you. I’m not very nice. But I’m not letting you ruin this for me.” Because what else did she have? If word got around that she was such a horrible person, that she’d hurt poor innocent Ruby in such a way, what friends was she going to make? Time did not heal all wounds and Hadley knew the two of them would never be friends again. But facing this head on was better than seeing what would come of it later.

Ruby didn’t much like the library. She never had liked libraries, but it didn’t help that this particular one was rumored to be haunted, and the last time she’d been in here, she could have sworn she’d seen a book move by itself. She honestly just tried to avoid the library, but she couldn’t go through her whole university career without ever picking up a library book. So there she was, eyes scanning the shelves of the dance books, trying to make sense of the catalog system. She was looking for the text book on Mary Overlie’s Viewpoints, but couldn’t work out if she should be looking in the M or the O section. 

Opportunity never knocked. No, it barged in preening until it was seized or the moment passed. Hadley wasn’t going to let this one slip by her. It had been so long since there was any real confrontation between them, since there was any real reason to keep fighting. And it was clear that Hadley was making her fill of bad decisions today as it was so why not approach Ruby and give the girl a piece of her mind? The decision was sealed when the leg of her chair was kicked hard enough to tilt to one side. Luckily she managed to stay on it. At least until she was pushing it out and standing of her own free will. Leaving her books where she dropped them, Hadley approached the desk Ruby had claimed, circling around it until she stood in front, hands resting on the edge.
