Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1k
Neteyam didn’t know why he sat down beside her. The urge to go for a walk that night and clear his head had come from her, yet he simply couldn’t help himself.
She looked different. He didn’t know how, but something was different enough to make his gaze fix on her, watching her intently in the moonlight. He had never seen her like this before, and-
“The moonlight makes you even more beautiful.”
The words had slipped out before he could think them through, but he was glad he’d said them when he saw her shy smile. He didn’t know why, but he wanted that moment between them to last, so he suggested they fly together.
He had never expected her to be so nervous about flying with him, it made him wonder if it was because they were so close.
He’d been hurt when she’d asked him to keep their nighttime meeting a secret, but the explanation that her parents were strict made sense. Maybe that was why she acted so differently during the day; when others could watch, she had people to please, and he understood the weight of that.
He even kissed her hand, he couldn’t help but be affectionate with her like that. Even though he had never done or said anything like that with Ila during the day, now it simply felt so right. Being with her felt right, touching her felt right. He was finally able to understand why Eywa thought Ila was the one for him, and not only did he agree, but he could already feel himself falling in love with the real Ila.
___
“I'm telling you, Neteyam, she can't be the one Eywa wants for you!” Kiri insists.
“She's right, bro. Have you seen what she's like?” Lo'ak adds.
“I have, and she's perfect for me” Neteyam says, a hint of irritation already evident in his tone.
He had been trying to be patient with his brothers. He knew they didn’t know the same Ila that he did, but lately they had started to become increasingly insistent in their protests. As much as he wanted to understand, their dedication in denying that Ila was his true mate was a stab in the heart.
She was perfect. Her laughter was like a melody and her voice like a song. Her luminous freckles were more beautiful than any constellation could ever be, and her eyes more beautiful than any moon. He spent his days longing for night so he could see her again, how unburdened she was with her kindness and tenderness toward all the creatures of Pandora.
He would never forget when she had taken him to the ikran’s nest. These animals, who were supposed to try to kill their rider when chosen or ignore the Na’vi when not chosen, welcomed Ila with open wings. They all cherished her, sought her affection and care, and even allowed her near the eggs and cubs as if she were one of them. The way they loved her made her connection to Eywa crystal clear.
Neteyam just wanted Kiri to see; he was certain that if any of his brothers saw what she was like, what she was really like, they would agree with him… but maybe they could.
“Neteyam, please-” Kiri begins, but Neteyam cuts her off.
“I’m going to show you.”
“Show us?”
“Yes, tonight, I’m going to show you how she is the mate that Eywa showed me.”
“Tonight?” Lo’ak asks, and Kiri stares at him wide-eyed.
“Is that why you’ve been sneaking out every night? To go see her?” Kiri asks incredulously.
“Yes.”
“Why? You can just be with her during the day!”
“But not like that!” Neteyam ends up shouting before taking a deep breath and starting over in a lower tone. “Just trust me, please. Tonight I’ll show you.”
___
Neteyam moves through the trees with complete mastery of the path he had taken so many times before to meet Ila at night. His footsteps are silent. Kiri and Lo'ak follow him at a distance. Their reluctance and disbelief are still evident in their behavior, but he is grateful they are giving him the chance to show them.
“Shhh” he signals for them to wait and remain silent as he spots Ila.
She was standing there, gently stroking Katir’s skin while humming a familiar tune. Keeping his presence hidden, he approaches from behind and, wrapping his arms around her waist, lifts her into the air and spins her around.
“Neteyam!” Ila shouts with laughter and clings tightly to the arms holding her to steady herself.
When he sets her down, she turns in his arms to face him.
“I’m happy to see you” he says, gently placing his hand on her face.
Ila opens her mouth to reply, but suddenly her eyes widen, and he can see the panic in them.
“It’s okay! They came with me and they won’t tell anyone, I swear.”
He can see the doubt and insecurity in her eyes. Gesturing for the brothers to come closer, he adds, “You’ll keep it a secret, right?”
“Yes” Lo’ak says.
“I promise” Kiri says.
Neteyam can see Ila wrestling with her doubts, but finally she sighs and smiles, that sweet smile that Neteyam loved and missed so much during the day.
“Okay, okay, so what's the plan for tonight?

Twin - [Neteyam Sully x Omatikaya! reader] - Chapter 3
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1k
Y/n is startled by the sound of Neteyam’s voice, and when she turns around and sees him, it’s as if her world has come to a standstill.
What was she supposed to do? No one was supposed to know about her, least of all Neteyam. If he found out... if her parents found out, they would kill her. But he had called her Ila.
“Hi” she says in a soft voice, unsure of what to say to avoid giving away her identity.
“What are you doing here?” he asks, still standing, watching her closely.
“I-I needed some fresh air, I guess” Y/n says, looking away from Neteyam and back at the tree bark.
“Me too” he says, surprising her as he moves to sit beside her.
They both remain silent for a while. Y/n has no idea what to say. Her heart is racing like crazy just from his presence so close to her. She never thought she’d have the chance to be this close to him, but the reality wasn’t quite that...he was this close to her because he thought she was Ila. Y/n’s heart aches painfully at this realization.
She knew that her sister had been recognized by Eywa as Neteyam’s destined mate; she wouldn’t keep quiet about it, and because of that, and because their parents wanted to avoid the risk of Y/n being seen, she was allowed home less and less often. Not that she was complaining; being with the ikrans was much better than being at home, and she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself and hunting for food. Skills she had developed on her own, since no one was interested in teaching them to her.
“The moonlight makes you even more beautiful” Neteyam comments, breaking the silence.
Y/n can immediately see his surprise, as if the words had slipped out by accident, and his face flush, though she’s sure it’s not as much as hers.
“Thank you” she replies shyly, but he smiles brightly and stands up, holding out his hand to her.
“What if we flew together? I’m sure it would be good to clear our heads.”
Y/n takes his hand before she can think logically. She doesn’t have an ikran; she knows Ila has an ikran, Temek, and she should be Ila.
“I... can’t.”
“Why not?” Neteyam asks, confusion and hurt clearly visible in his eyes.
How could she possibly explain this?
“I...Temek’s been in a bad mood lately; he hasn’t been too happy about flying at night, and I’m trying to respect that.”
“But you can still fly with me if you want.”
“Fly with you?” Y/n asks, confused; she doesn’t have an ikran.
Neteyam smiles as he whistles, and an ikran descends from the sky and lands beside them.
“Ukyom, this is Ila, my future mate. Be nice” he says, placing Y/n’s hand on the ikran’s snout.
The animal chirps and closes its eyes at Y/n’s touch.
“He likes you” Neteyam says with a smile and reaches out to her again. “Shall we go?”
Y/n nods and lets Neteyam pull her up onto Ukyom. She wraps her arms around his waist and tries to ignore her nervousness about her first flight. She didn’t want Neteyam to realize she had never flown before. Not only that, but her arms around him and the contact of his back against her chest made her afraid he would feel the uncontrolled way her heart was beating.
Ukyom takes flight more gently than she would have expected, but she still can’t help but instinctively close her eyes. However, Neteyam places his hand over one of hers and pulls her up toward his chest. Feeling the rapid beat of his heart, she can’t help but smile and open her eyes.
The view of the forest below them is breathtaking, and Y/n can feel herself relaxing next to Neteyam.
For a while, they just stay like that. The sound of the wind and the flapping of Ukyom’s wings filling the silence. Through her palm on his chest, she can feel their heartbeats slowly synchronizing. His hand still rested on hers, and its warmth made her sigh with contentment.
How she wished she could be there as Y/n and not as Ila.
In perfect unison, Neteyam and Y/n look up toward the sound of a new flapping of wings. The ikran chirps happily, and Y/n can’t contain her surprise.
“Katir?” Y/n asks, and Neteyam looks at her over his shoulder.
“Do you know her?”
“W-well, sort of,” Y/n says, feeling Katir’s protest. “She shows up quite often; sometimes she even keeps me company” which wasn’t a complete lie, and Katir seems satisfied with that answer.
The ikran spun around them to get their attention, and Ukyom chirped, tempted by the challenge.
Neteyam laughs. “I think the ikrans just like you.”
Y/n tries not to let the comment get to her, she knew that wasn’t a good thing. When an ikran chose someone, it tried to kill them, it didn’t hang around them and keep them company like Katir. Still, she was grateful for her only friend.
“Neteyam?” she calls, making him look over his shoulder at her. “Can we not talk about this during the day?”
“This meeting?” Y/n nods. “Why?” he asks, confused, and she can feel his heart racing a little.
“We’re not mated yet, and my parents are a bit strict; I don’t think they’d like to know we’re wandering through the forest alone together at night” she says, trying to come up with a plausible excuse to stop him from mentioning this meeting to the real Ila or her parents. If anyone found out that she had met with Neteyam and pretended to be Ila, the situation wouldn’t end well for her.
“Of course, don’t worry” he says, bringing her hand to his lips and kissing it.

If I subscribe to your patron can I finish reading the kamaniri story on there?
Oh my gosh, I just realized now that I left Part 10 as the finale of the Kaminari series. Originally, I had planned to flesh out the ending more so it wouldn’t be so open-ended, and even create more interconnected stories for other characters, but since the series didn’t gain much support, I ended up getting a little demotivated and stopped there. However, recently some people on other platforms have reached out to me asking for a Part 10 with a more closed ending, and I’ve recently started working on it, but it’s not available on my Patreon yet. When it’s ready, it will be published on Patreon for readers with early access with two weeks advance.
What you can do, and what I recommend to everyone, is to subscribe for free, and when the final part of Kaminari comes out, you’ll be notified. Then you can decide if you want to wait two weeks to read it for free or subscribe to read it right away.
My to-do list includes some Avatar fanfics, the ending of Kaminari's series, and the stories about Mirio and Knuckle that won my polls a while back. After that, I plan to get back to my One Piece series.
Thank you for your support and for asking! Knowing that there are people interested in a more closed ending helps motivate me to write it <3

Word Count: 1k
Neteyam was tired. It wasn't that he didn't want to find the companion Eywa had shown him; he really did want to find her, but the search had already lasted one week.
His parents decided it would be better to keep things calm and that, instead of simply summoning all the young women to a meeting, it would be better for Neteyam and his parents, along with his grandmother, to visit the young women at home. It was a good decision that gave Neteyam the opportunity to talk a little with each one, but he was beginning to feel tired.
He didn't want to be mean or rude... he just wanted to see her again.
Every night he went to bed feeling defeated for not having found her, and woke up discouraged for not having been able to dream with her.
No matter how hard he tried to stay strong, he was beginning to lose hope. What if she was from another clan? Eywa hadn't exactly said she was omatikaya. All he could tell from the dream, other than that she was breathtaking, was that she was a Navi from the forest.
He had even considered going out and looking for her himself, but that would be disrespectful to his parents. He had lost count of how many girls he had met, each new face excited to meet him face to face and have the chance to find out whether or not she would be his mate, but it was never her.
He had mistakenly thought he would meet most of them, a huge mistake that led him to wonder if he was failing in his training for Olo'eyktan.
“Neteyam,” Neytiri points, making him straighten up and correct his posture before they reach another house.
The anticipation Neteyam felt was little compared to the first day, but the moment he entered the house and saw her, it was as if time had stopped. It was her. He tries to control his breathing and opens his mouth to say something as he approaches her, unable to believe his eyes.
The girl smiles at him and Neteyam doesn't look away, but at that moment he closes his mouth. The feeling was strange, that smile, something was wrong. It was her, it looked like her, but it didn't feel like her. He wasn't even sure how she would feel, but he hoped it wouldn't be like this. But it was her, it had to be her, she was just like in his dream.
She looked expectant, and he could feel the smiles of everyone in the room, who had obviously noticed Neteyam's reaction to her.
“What's your name?” Neteyam asks, hoping that a name might make everything better.
“Ila.”
She replies enchantingly, but the sound of her voice turns Neteyam's stomach. She was beautiful, perhaps some would even use the word charming to describe her, as well as her name, but he couldn't feel any of that.
“Son, is it her?” Jake asks.
Neteyam thinks that she isn't, but he knows he can't be correct, she was the same. Ignoring the lump in his throat and the alarms ringing in his mind, he nods affirmatively.
Ila screams and throws herself at him.
Happiness is written all over her face, and everyone celebrates.
Neteyam doesn't do that; he's too busy trying to control how his heart sank when he held the one who was supposed to be his mate in his arms.
-
Love grows with time. Maybe he had just fantasized too much about the Na'vi in his dream, and now that he really had her, it seemed wrong. With time. That's what he thought. Eywa wouldn't be wrong, would she?
Oh, but Neteyam felt more and more that she must be. Time hadn't changed anything.
Ila just didn't seem right by his side, she didn't feel right by his side. She was friendly and polite to everyone, including him. She smiled and waved, but that was it.
When they were alone, she just smiled and nodded, but it seemed like she was never really listening to anything he said. Sometimes he could even swear he saw her roll her eyes whenever he brought up simpler, more mundane topics. Topics that Neteyam was interested in, not the great son of Toruk Makto and future Olo'eyktan.
She also didn't seem to get along particularly well with any of his siblings. Loak turned up his nose at her almost instantly, and she did the same to him, so they interacted as little as possible.
Tuk was very excited to meet her, but that excitement quickly faded when Ila began treating her like a baby. Yes, Tuk was just a child, but Ila treated her as if everything she said or did was childish nonsense.
And Kiri... well, he was sure he heard her mutter that there was no way he could have interpreted Eywa's dream correctly.
At least she seemed convincing enough to her parents and was being decent, as her grandmother had mentioned in tsahik training.
But none of that mattered to him. What really bothered him was how wrong being with her felt, how wrong stopping looking felt.
He still couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. That's why he went out for some fresh air that night. He needed to clear his head. He had taken his Ikran and flown for a while before finally landing to walk a little. The night air in the forest was fresh, and the way everything glowed seemed to allow him to breathe more deeply, something he hadn't been able to do lately.
That's when he suddenly saw her. Sitting on a log, humming a beautiful melody he didn't recognize as she traced the contours of the tree bark's roughness with her fingers.
“Ila?” He asks, confused, thinking she had gone home.
But when she turns around for some reason, he feels like it's the first time. The first time he's really seen her.

For The Science - [Norm Spellman x Omatikaya! reader (Ninat)] - Chapter 5 - Final
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1,7k
“YOU WHAT?!?!” Neytiri asks in an abrupt exclamation.
“Shhhh, someone might hear you.”
“So what? It’s something the clan should celebrate. I... I’m so happy for you-”
“We’re not together.”
“How can that be?” Neytiri asks incredulously.
“I-It was- I mean- It was just so he could study tsaheylu.”
Neytiri looks at her skeptically. “Is that what you tell yourself?”
“N-no.” Ninat looks down, ashamed. “I know my feelings are real, and my motives were much more selfish than they should have been.”
Neytiri sighs. “Ninat, love is a good thing. Can't you see that he reciprocates your feelings?”
“Neytiri, please,” Ninat pleads, trying to hold back her tears.
“Okay, I'll drop the subject... for now.”
___
Norm bangs his head against the door repeatedly. Images from the night before and his cowardice won't leave his mind. He should have confessed and let Ninat know his true feelings, but instead he let her sacrifice her tsaheylu believing he was going to do something for science with it when the only thing he could think about was how much he missed having her in his arms.
___
It had been two months since Ninat and Norm had mated, and neither of them had confessed their true feelings to each other. In fact, ashamed of the “selfishness” of their actions, they had both created a certain distance between them.
It was difficult for Ninat because after the tsaheylu, her feelings had only grown stronger. She just wanted to shout to the world that he was hers and she was his. How would Norm react if she told him?
“A little of these leaves in boiling water and the nausea will go away,” Mo'at says, handing Ninat a cup of tea to try.
“Thank you.”
“You should also take some of this mixture, it will help you with the cramps in the coming weeks of pregnancy and after that-”
Ninat chokes on the tea and Mo'at is immediately concerned.
“What's wrong?”
“P-pregnancy?” Ninat asks, not believing what Mo'at is telling her.
“Yes? Didn't you know? Neytiri was like this not long ago, I thought you would recognize the signs.”
“But Tsahìk, I don't even have a mate, that's impossible.”
“Darling, you don't have to lie to me, I understand if you're still unsure about telling everyone, but Norm is now part of the people.”
Ninat is speechless, and Mo'at continues to try to comfort the young woman, even though she has misunderstood the situation.
“I don't know how none of you noticed, but your belly is already starting to show. In another month, it will be difficult not to see it. You'd better start preparing to tell the clan.”
Mo'at's words expressed a mother's concern mixed with happiness that her daughter had found happiness. Little did she know that this pregnancy was anything but what Ninat had hoped for. Had she daydreamed about it? Sometimes, but it was a huge leap from dream to reality.
How was she going to tell Norm?
___
Norm sighed as he watched Ninat playing with the children, a habit he had acquired since they had grown apart.
He could only hope that Ninat hadn't noticed and found him strange for it. Lately, she hadn't been seeking him out as much as she used to, and he could only assume that she regretted forming the tsaheylu with him.
At this point, Norm was desperate to interact with her because since the beginning of the week she had been avoiding him even more, as if he were a plague, and Norm had no idea why.
The last few months had not been difficult only because of the distance between them. Norm had wished for that before, but it seemed that with her newfound stability and her age, several men had begun to approach her to court her.
She is mine.
Norm thought when he saw a man approaching her, and immediately rebuked himself, shaking his head at the thought. They weren't together, he had no right to feel that way about her, especially not when he was a coward who didn't even have the courage to declare his own feelings.
“You know,” Neytiri begins, startling Norm with her presence, “since she was little, her dream was to be a mother.”
“A mother?” Norm asks.
“Yes, she grew up as an only child, so she always wanted to have lots of children and build a big family.”
Norm doesn't respond, confused by the new information. He knew that Ninat loved children and that caring for them was her main role in the village, but he didn't know that she dreamed of being a mother. If she had that dream, why did she mate with him?
“I'm telling you to at least give her children.”
Norm chokes and tries to contradict Neytiri, but she doesn't let him speak.
“I know you mated.”
“W-what?”
“We're like sisters, besides, she obviously needed to vent to someone.”
Norm clears his throat, thinking about what to say. “It was just for the-” he begins, but Neytiri interrupts him with a growl.
“Science? Oh, for Eywa, Norm! If that were the case, you wouldn't be here every day watching her, but Ma Jake says you're in love with her, and even I can't deny the way you look at her.”
“How do I look at her?”
“As if your world were in her.”
Norm is speechless at how easily Neytiri has described his exact feelings.
“Look,” Neytiri points to Tauk, who is now approaching Ninat. “It's a good time to set the things straight. At this point, Tauk's courtship can only be described as harassment.”
Norm knows Neytiri is right. Of all the men who have tried to approach Ninat, Tauk has been the most persistent, unable to take no for an answer, insisting day after day and filling Norm with a hatred he didn't know he was capable of feeling.
“She is your mate, Norm,” Neytiri says, and that simple sentence finally seems to break something inside him as he gets up and walks toward Ninat.
___
Ninat sighs in despair when she sees Tauk approaching her, and she almost wants to cry because there are no children around her, since their parents had just taken them home. She genuinely hated Tauk's ability to catch her alone.
It had been almost a month since he started being so insistent, and his constant presence irritated Ninat deeply. Why couldn't he take no for an answer?
As soon as Tauk reaches her, he starts a conversation, but he stands obviously too close, making Ninat uncomfortable. She starts looking around, hoping to find something to save her, when she sees Norm walking toward her, and her heart races at the sight of him.
Her gaze is pulled away from Norm when Tauk grabs her arm.
“You could at least pay attention to what I'm saying.”
Ninat was about to demand that he let her go when Norm's loud voice speaks first.
“Don't touch her,” he says, placing a firm hand on Tauk's wrist.
“Huh? And who told you she doesn't want me to touch her?” Tauk says provocatively with a disgusting smile, still not letting go of Ninat.
Norm thinks he has never felt so angry before.
“I did,” Norm states.
“And who do you think you are? You want to get her attention, huh? Just because you passed the rituals and some accepted you doesn’t mean any woman will want you. Don’t tell me you’re trying to get her attention.”
“She is your mate, Norm.” Neytiri’s words reverberate in Norm’s mind.
“I don't need to try to get her attention because I already have it.”
“What?” Tauk asks, and Norm tightens his grip on the Navi's arm. Ninat, however, feels her chest fill with anticipation and can't help but look hopefully at Norm.
“She's my mate, so back off.”
Tauk chokes, and Norm takes the opportunity to force his grip away from Ninat.
___
She must have been dreaming, it was so unexpected. What was he doing? Assuming their connection like that, not that Ninat cared, the reality of the situation made it difficult to hold back tears of joy.
A murmur could be heard from several Na'vi who had stopped to see what was going on and had just heard Norm's statement.
Without wasting any time, Ninat grabs Norm's arm and stands behind him, seeking refuge in him and leaving no room for Tauk to doubt his companion's words.
Tauk growls, about to start an argument, when fortunately Mo'at intervenes.
“What's going on here?”
Wanting to protect Norm, Ninat quickly says, “Tauk insists on trying to court me and confronting my companion.”
Ninat's explanation makes Mo'at glare at Tauk.
“Tsahìk, no one knows about this mating, it must be a lie!” Tauk tries to defend himself.
“I know, and I approved it!” Mo'at exclaims, surprising the Na'vi present. “It is not uncommon for a young couple to prefer to wait a while before announcing their mating. Now you must respect this and back off. This woman has already been taken. Mo'at says sternly. Tauk leaves furiously and the crowd begins to disperse.
“Thank you, Tsahìk,” Norm says respectfully, to which Mo'at laughs and says as he turns to Ninat.
“You'd better tell him the rest.”
Norm looks at Ninat, who nods to Mo'at and begins to pull him toward a more private place.
Now was the time, Norm thought. He needed to reveal his feelings once and for all. “I see you,” he blurts out as soon as Ninat stops walking.
“I see you too, Norm, but...” She pauses for a moment, thinking about how to say it and, without knowing it, killing Norm with anxiety.
“B-but?”
Ninat looks him in the eyes and pulls his hand to her stomach. “I'm pregnant.”
___
Little extra:
“Come on, hold her” Ninat insists, placing the baby in Norm’s arms.
“But she’s so small, what if I drop her?”
“Then be careful” Ninat laughs, watching Norm with his daughter in his arms.
“She’s beautiful, she looks like you” Norm says as he gazes affectionately at his daughter.
“Maybe, but” Ninat pauses to take the baby's hands, “she has your hands.”
Norm laughs, taking the little five-fingered hand in his and sighs contentedly.
“And what will her name be?” Saeyla, standing next to Tsu'tey and holding Spider in her arms, asks eagerly.
“Tsyal” the couple say at the same time.

The music gradually slowed down, like a heart returning to its normal rhythm after running too fast. Laughter still echoed here and there, some Na'vi continued to dance in small groups, but the large circle had broken up. The torches burned lower and the cooler night air began to mix with the heat of the party.
Jake and Neytiri were no longer there. They had disappeared somewhere into the night, retreating to their refuge together.
Norm stood still for a moment, watching. The ground still vibrated slightly beneath his feet, or perhaps it was just his body.
The night seemed bigger now that the noise had subsided. The air entered his lungs slowly, heavily, but at the same time alive and fresh. He could hear his own blood in his ears.
Choosing a mate.
Jake's voice echoed in his head with irritating clarity.
He tried to imagine what that would really mean. Not as a ritual. Not as a tradition. But as... life. Waking up and her being there. Hearing her laughter every day. Not having to look for her in the crowd because she would be with him. She would be... his. And he would be hers.
The thought was too big, but at the same time that it scared him, it also made something inside him settle, as if. . . it seemed right. Belonging to Ninat felt right to him.
The problem was that no matter how right it felt to him, would it feel right to her? Belonging to him?
The idea sent a shiver down his spine. Because with it came the old, familiar fear of not being good enough. He had spent years being the fragile human, the misfit scientist, the one who observed rather than belonged. Even now, even in that body, that insecurity lived under his skin.
But when he thought of Ninat...
He exhales slowly.
You're her type.
Jake had said it as if it were obvious. As if it were a fact and not a statistical probability almost below zero.
Norm shakes his head, almost laughing to himself. Still, his chest tightens. He couldn't be anyone's type.
He is so lost in these self-deprecating thoughts that he doesn't even hear her approach until she sits down next to him.
Her presence is luminous, and she sits close enough to him that her shoulder almost touches his.
His heart races.
He turns around immediately, surprised but ready to smile, to greet her, ask how she is, or even just say her name or something normal, but what comes out is
“Jake told me I still have one Omatikaya ritual left.”
As soon as the words come out, he wants to take them back. He wishes Pandora would open up and swallow him whole.
But it's too late.
Ninat blinks, taken by surprise, and the blue light from the plants reflects in her eyes, making her look even more awake.
“A ritual? she asks, tilting her head slightly in confusion. Her voice is soft and tinged with exhaustion from all the time she spent dancing with her friends, but at the same time there is genuine curiosity in it. “Which one?”
Norm swallows hard. What should he say? The words had escaped him without thinking. Without preparation. Without courage. Just the truth falling in the middle of the night between the two of them. His heart beats too fast, as if trying to escape his chest, and he opens his mouth a few times before the now more reluctant words come out.
“Choosing... a mate.”
The silence that falls between them is not heavy with noise but heavy with meaning.
Ninat inhales incorrectly and chokes on the air, turning her face slightly, and Norm immediately straightens up.
“Are you okay?” he asks, concern overcoming embarrassment.
“Yes.” She nods quickly, but doesn't look at him. Her fingers tighten slightly. “I just... wasn't expecting it.”
He thinks he understands; he wasn't expecting it either.
“The tsaheylu between partners must be... important to study,” she adds, her voice carefully neutral, almost formal.
Norm feels something sink inside him. That wasn't the direction he wanted to go. He nods anyway, caught between hope and fear that he might say something that pushes her away... even more.
“There are many women in the clan,” Ninat continues, her eyes still fixed ahead. “Many who would make good mates.
He lets out a small breath through his nose, almost a humorless laugh. “I doubt any of them would want to mate with me.
It was true, but he leaves the biggest truth of all unsaid. The truth that she was the only one he would want to mate with.
She turns her face to him so quickly that her braids brush his shoulder.
“Don't say that.”
The firmness in her voice catches him off guard. But then her gaze flickers again.
Silence returns, this time more intense.
Norm feels like he's on the edge of something, like an invisible cliff. If he takes a step forward, everything will change. If he steps back, he might be able to keep something intact.
“I...” Ninat begins, surprising him, but the words seem to weigh heavily on her tongue. She takes a deep breath. “I can help you. With studying tsaheylu, I mean.”
The world becomes very quiet and Norm feels unable to breathe.
“But then you couldn't find a mate...”
“I don't plan on mating with anyone in the clan,” she interrupts, too quickly. “So I can do what you said. Devote myself to science.”
No.
The word echoes inside him again, louder.
That's not what he wanted, at least not now.
He didn't want her “to study.” He didn't want an empty ritual. He wanted her smile in the morning.
He wanted to be able to look at her without having to hide, without fear, long enough to memorize the position of each freckle and the pattern of each spot.
He wanted to be able to tell her his stories and scientific facts while hugging her.
He wanted to be able to explore Pandora with her, discover Pandora with her.
He wanted to do everything to see her happy, to touch her, to hug her and... He wanted the way she looked at him as if he were... more than he ever believed himself to be.
But fear speaks first.
He sees himself waving slowly, as if watching someone else use his body. Like a true Avatar without any control.
“If you're sure...” he murmurs. A coward.
Ninat stands up, extending her hand to him. He looks at her for a second that seems to last years... and accepts.
Her fingers are warm. Small. Real.
She guides him away until the last voices of the party can no longer be heard in the night. Through the trees, where the light becomes denser, more sacred. The Trees of Souls rise in front of them, in the most vivid silence he has ever heard.
-
Her heart beats so fast that she fears he will hear it.
For the sake of science, she repeats to herself.
But the name her heart gives it is another.
She knows she is selfish. He could come to love another. He could choose another as his companion. But the idea tears her apart inside. It was selfish, but she didn't want to see him with anyone else, she couldn't bear it.
Besides, she thinks, trying to soften the selfishness she feels. If he wants to study tsaheylu, wouldn't it be best to do it with someone who loves him? With her? It would certainly give the best results. To study tsaheylu, even if only once... then she could have him, even if it was in this nameless space between the real and the pretend.
She could have the man she loves as her mate.
-
She stops and Norm almost collides with her, torn from the whirlwind in his head. When she turns around, the light from the trees reflects in her eyes like a sky full of stars.
He forgets all the phrases he had prepared. All the rational arguments.
The only thing left in his mind is... her.
Norm approaches, raising his hand to gently hold her face.
She looks him in the eyes and raises her kuru. He mirrors her actions with less trembling hands than he would have thought, and in a heartbeat everything syncs.
The tsaheylu forms.
And the world doesn't disappear, it expands. Sensations that have no words wash over them, mixing fear, warmth, recognition.
It was supposed to be just to experiment. Just to learn. That was the excuse they both gave each other.
But their hearts didn't seem interested in excuses, not when they feel the truth.
Love.
With no more limits, their lips meet in an impulse that is not abrupt, but inevitable. The contact is warm, moist, and makes the air escape from both their lungs at the same time.
The kiss was like nothing either of them had ever experienced before, it was warm, familiar yet new, and it filled them. It doesn't take hold of them all at once but spreads slowly, its warmth seeping through their bodies.
His hands find the curve of her waist, pull her toward him, and his fingers feel her soft skin, as if he needs to confirm that she is real.
Ninat slides her fingers down his arms, slowly climbing up, feeling the tension there, the restrained strength, and holds him by the neck, not to restrain him but because she needs him, closer.
Their bodies draw closer until there is no space between their breaths. Her warmth crosses the short distance that remains, seeping into his chest, his stomach, his thoughts. Each time their lips part for a breath, they meet again as if the absence were a mistake to be corrected.
The kiss deepens, not in haste, but out of need. Her hands run slowly over his back, feeling every muscle that tenses under her touch. He responds by pulling her closer, his palm open between her shoulder blades, as if afraid that the world might steal her away.
It is not lack of control but surrender. They moved like two beings who had always been meant for each other, like two bodies born to touch each other, to feel each other.
Like two souls that were nothing more than one in two bodies, but at that moment those two bodies were just one and any distance between them was felt as suffocating, something to be eliminated.
Nothing is said. No promise is made. No certainty is formed.
But the shared warmth seems to act as such. Fingers that don't want to let go. Lips that meet again. And the touch said here, now, you and me...us.
And like that, under the Trees of Souls, science stops being what brought them there. At least for that night.

Twin - [Neteyam Sully x Omatikaya! reader] - Chapter 1
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1,5k
Neteyam blinks slowly to regain focus on his vision. He stands up and looks around at the nighttime forest of Pandora.
How did he end up here?
He could have sworn he fell asleep at home.
A young Navi appears from among the bushes. "Come on, don't fall behind, we're almost there!" she says before taking Neteyam's hand in hers. She pulls him slightly, but he remains static. Who is she?
"Ma Neteyam?" she asks, confused.
Ma? Neteyam was about to ask when suddenly several atokirinas filled the air. He watches with wide eyes. One of them moves closer to them, landing where their hands are connected.
Neteyam's focus was on the atokirina perched on his hand. Eywa, what did this mean? A laugh makes him look up, and he watches as an atokirina tries to land on the girl's nose and she giggles with ticklish delight. Where did she come from? He could swear he would never forget such a beautiful face if he ever saw her before.
---
Neteyam woke up suddenly with his heart racing and the morning light hitting his eyes. He looked around to realize he was at home. Exactly where he remembered falling asleep last night. So why— Had it been a dream? Was she not real?
___
Neteyam couldn't get the dream out of his head; he hadn't forgotten it. He didn't want to forget it, but he also didn't know if he could even if he wanted to. The way her eyes looked at him and her voice when she called him Ma Neteyam. The more he remembered it, the more her voice sounded like a melody, a melody he had always known but had never really heard. Familiar, warm, perfect. And the atokirinas... he knew what they turned his dream into. A message from Eywa. He should tell his grandmother, Tsahìk, but the dream seemed so intimate. As if that moment belonged only to the two of them, which made him put it off, put it off for too long.
He sighs as he enters the tent where he knows his grandmother is. He had delayed telling her about the dream for a week. Every night he hoped that somehow the dream would return so that he could find her again, but it never did, and the longing to see her again began to consume him.
"Tsahìk," he greets her.
"Neteyam, how can I help you?" His grandmother smiles and asks.
"I had a dream. I think it's a message from Eywa."
Mo'at's expression becomes more serious and she gestures for Neteyam to sit with her.
"Tell me."
Neteyam nods and begins to describe his dream, the young Navi he saw in it, and before he realizes it, he is rambling about her eyes, her freckles, her stripes, her hair, and...
Mo'at smiles when his grandson falls silent and blushes. "Do you think it's a message from Eywa?"
"Yes," he says, licking his lips. "In the dream, she holds my hand and several atokirinas dance around us. One of them lands on our hands and—"
"And?" Mo'at encourages him when he seems to be struggling for words.
"She calls me 'Ma Neteyam,'" he says, lowering his ears and gaze to hide the deep blush that spreads across his cheeks with his shyness.
Tsahìk smiles gently and takes Neteyam's hand, making him look at her again. "Eywa sent you a message about your mate, we must find this girl."
___
Y/n stretches as she wakes up, surrounded by fresh herbs, and realizes she has fallen asleep away from home again. Not that it was a problem; her parents weren't worried. In fact, they preferred her away from home, far from the village, where there was no risk of anyone seeing her.
An ikran nudges her gently, and she laughs as she strokes the animal. She looks around at the ikrans surrounding her as two young ones roll around playfully. Maybe she should try to form a bond with one. No, if her parents found out, they would be upset. Besides, she knew that when an ikran chooses its rider, it tries to kill them, and to be honest, none of the ikrans she had encountered so far had ever tried to kill her... none had ever chosen her. Y/n's chest tightens, but she ignores the pain and tries not to think about how Ila, her sister, had told her that when she went to tame her ikran, several had tried to kill her.
Y/n sighed. Even though they weren't worried, she should probably go back. As much as she would have liked to stay in the ikran's nest, she would soon have to prepare food for her family, and they didn't like it when she was late.
The ikran from before stands up when she sees her getting up, and Y/n laughs. She had nicknamed her Katir (rainbow) because the female had the most beautiful colors of any ikran she had ever seen. Katir had this habit; she may not have chosen her, but she followed her constantly, perhaps because Y/n spent so many nights in the ikrans' nest that she adopted her. Y/n laughs at the idea of having an ikran mother, especially one so protective.
-
“You're late,” Y/n's mother declares simply when she enters with a tone of annoyance.
“I'm sorry,” Y/n replies with her ears down, without looking up from the floor.
“I don't want your apologies, Ila and your father should be here soon and you don't have the food ready yet.”
This time Y/n doesn't reply, she just goes to the ingredients and starts preparing the meal.
The food was almost ready, and Y/n felt proud of herself for managing to make it in such a short time. The smell was mouthwatering.
“I'm so excited, Dad- What is she doing here?” Ila asks, pointing at Y/n with a frown.
“She was late, so she's still finishing the food. But don't let her presence bother you, my dear Ila. What was all that excitement about earlier?” Their mother asks.
Y/n ignores the scene and focuses on finishing the food so she can leave as quickly as possible.
“Tsahìk announced that Neteyam is looking for a mate! She says he received a sign from Ewya and is looking for her! I'm sure it's me, who else could be so perfect for him if not me?” Ila says, vibrating with enthusiasm.
Y/n's heart races when she hears Neteyam's name. Of course, even though she wasn't really part of the clan, she knew who he was. She had met him a few times in the forest with her brothers, but of course, being the freak that she was, she had never really approached him or even let him see her. Her parents would kill her if they found out she had let anyone see her.
“That's fantastic! Of course it has to be you, my daughter!” Their mother says, wrapping her in a hug.
“Y/n,” their father called, making her look up from the food she had just finished. “Tsahìk and Olo'eyktan want Neteyam to see all the young women of the clan.”
Y/n's eyes widened. That included her, right?
"So I want you to leave and, to be on the safe side, don't come back for the next week. Don't worry about food, your mother can prepare our meals while you're away. The most important thing is to avoid anyone seeing you. It would be a shame if the clan saw you."
She swallows hard, trying to push away the pain growing in her chest. “Yes, dad.”
“Father” he corrects her.
“Yes, father.”
“What are you waiting for?” Ila asks impatiently. “Go away! I don't want to risk Neteyam coming here, finding you, and discovering that I have a freak like you as a sister.”
Y/n doesn't answer, she just nods and quickly leaves her family's hut. How could she be so stupid as to believe that, with the clan leaders' order, her parents would show her to him? That she would have a chance to meet Neteyam face to face?
Idiot that she was, she had managed to develop a huge crush on the future Olo'eyktan, a crush she knew could never be seen, never be heard, and never be reciprocated.
Still, she couldn't help the warmth that filled her chest whenever she saw him. His gentle nature and sense of responsibility were so noticeable that she had noticed it even after only a few encounters. And at the same time, he seemed to carry a heavy burden, as if he wanted to please everyone... just like her.
The sound of an ikran makes Y/n look up, and she smiles when she sees Katir perched on a wide branch. It seemed as if she had guessed that Y/n was ready to leave and had come to keep her company on her return, or perhaps the female had never really left, remaining there waiting for her. The thought warmed Y/n's heart to think that someone would wait for her.

For The Science - [Norm Spellman x Omatikaya! reader (Ninat)] - Chapter 3
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1,5k
Norm takes a deep breath, but the air doesn't seem to reach his lungs. His chest feels tight and heavy, as if the planet itself were testing whether he deserved to breathe there. Today was the day. And despite all the months of training, all the words of encouragement, the harsh truth echoed in his mind:
What if he failed?
He runs his hand over the back of his neck, his fingers trembling slightly. How many times had he heard whispers behind his back? Norm had never been the strongest, nor the most fearless. He had never been the type of person to assert himself. He was careful, hesitant… too human.
Perhaps too human for this.
This was what he had trained for months for. Every sore muscle, every fall, every night he had stayed awake mentally reviewing each movement while wondering if he wasn't just deluding himself. And above all, every moment Ninat had been there. Every moment she had wasted teaching him, patient, firm, believing in him with a certainty he had never been able to have in himself.
Today was the day. And yet the only thing on his mind was not the ikran.
It was her.
Ninat had believed in him from the beginning, and that thought made his stomach churn. More than the fear of failure, there was something even worse, the fear of disappointing her. Of proving that all the fears he had always had about himself were true.
He couldn't waste this.
She had chosen to help him. She had chosen to stay. She had chosen to invest time, patience, and knowledge in him.
But…
If he failed today…
If he didn't make it…
Maybe then she would realize that he didn't belong there. That she had bet on the wrong person.
Maybe she would leave-
No.
He couldn't afford that, even if she was doing it for science, because she believed he was the right person to study it, and even if doing it was what he had always dreamed of… right now he was doing it just for her. Because he loved her.
That realization tightens his chest.
She deserves someone better. Someone strong. Someone who doesn't tremble inside every time they are put to the test. Someone who doesn't need to muster courage just to exist in that world.
His gaze meets the ikran's, majestic, indomitable, and the comparison is inevitable.
How could someone like him be worthy?
For a second, the urge to give up almost overcomes him. It would be easier. Safer. To remain just Norm, the observant alien, the scientist, the man who loves silently because he never feels sufficient to say more.
But then he remembers the way Ninat looked at him the last time before walking away. There was no pity in her eyes. No doubt. Just a quiet confidence, as if he had already succeeded.
She believed in him… even when he didn't.
The thought warms his chest, mixed with fear and something dangerously close to hope. What if loving someone wasn't about deserving? What if it was just about trying, trying every day, to be better than the fear that was trying to hold him back now? Maybe he didn't deserve her now, but just maybe he could try every day in everything he did. Starting with this.
Norm takes a deep breath.
When he steps forward, his legs still tremble. The fear is still there. His body still seems to want to run away, but now his heart screams at him to stay. For her. Because now there is something pulling him forward, not pride, not ambition, but love. A silent, steadfast love that refuses to let him give up.
The ikran attacks first. Its claws tear the ground a few inches from him, its tail whips the air with enough force to knock him off balance, and he falls. The impact knocks the air out of his lungs, and for a moment he just lies there, gasping, dust stuck to his skin, his heart pounding in his chest.
His body aches as he forces himself to get up. His muscles protest, his arms tremble, and when he tries to grab hold again, the ikran shakes violently, throwing him back to the ground. This time, the pain is more acute and the world spins for a second that lasts too long.
For a moment, his gaze wanders to the others. Just to see if she was still there. And she was. The moment their eyes meet, Ninat smiles and nods affirmatively. The simple gesture fills him with strength. She still believed in him.
Norm stands up again. His legs are still shaking, his arms ache, but he moves forward. This time, he waits. He watches the ikran's rhythm, the exact moment he shakes his head, when his wings beat furiously, and Norm is dragged a few steps before he can get close enough to jump.
When he mounts, everything becomes chaos.
His body is shaken violently, the world spins, and for a moment he is sure he will fall again. His fingers cling desperately to the hot scales.
His hands tremble as he connects his kuro to the ikran's, the almost electric contact running through his entire body. The tsaheylu forms in an instant that seems eternal. And then… silence.
The ikran's fury fades like a storm moving away. His breathing slows, his body stops resisting. Norm feels his presence, not as something to dominate, but as something to accept.
He did it.
He really did it.
_
The music echoed through the forest like a second heartbeat, deep and alive, mingling with the distant sounds of animals and the rustling of leaves. The air was warm and humid, heavy with the sweet scent of flowers blooming in the darkness and the soft smoke of torches casting golden shadows on the blue skin of the Na'vi. Everything seemed to pulsate.
“Come on!” Neytiri exclaims, already laughing, pulling Ninat and Saeyla mercilessly into the center of the circle.
They protest, but it's the kind of protest that comes with a hidden smile. Jake bursts out laughing next to Norm, crossing his arms, and he tries to laugh too… but the truth is that the sound dies halfway through.
Because Ninat starts dancing.
It's not like humans dance. It's not exaggerated. It's not performative. It's… natural. As if the music had started inside her and her body was just following it. Her bare feet glide across the floor, her arms move like branches in the wind, her dark hair swings behind her. The light from the bioluminescent plants clings to her skin, her facial features, her eyes that shine brightly.
And Norm can only watch.
His heart is beating so loudly that he's almost certain Jake can hear it too. Each beat is heavy, uncoordinated, as if his own body hasn't yet realized that he belongs here now. That he's one of them. That this is… his people too.
But when he looked at her, he felt like that clumsy scientist again, tripping over his own feet.
“So” Jake begins, in that relaxed but firm voice “Now I think there's only one thing left for you, right?”
Norm blinks, torn from the trance Ninat's dancing had put him in “What?”
Jake clears his throat, a provocative smile appearing on his lips as he tilts his head toward Ninat “Choose a mate.”
The air catches in his throat and he chokes. Jake bursts out laughing and pats Norm comfortingly on the back as he adds.
“I'm told you're her type, you know?”
He chokes again. His gaze momentarily wanders to Ninat before returning to Jake, and Norm tries to figure out if this is some kind of cultural test he doesn't remember.
Jake laughed louder, attracting a few glances. “Relax, Norm!”
“Her type?” His voice came out higher than normal “How… how could I be Ninat's type?”
She spun around in the middle of the circle, laughing with Saeyla, completely oblivious to the existential collapse happening just a few feet from the bonfire.
Jake shrugs, a half-smile on his lips “Trust me. I know that look.”
“What look?”
“The one who pretends he's not always looking for you in the crowd.”
Butterflies flutter in Norm's stomach “She doesn't-”
“Norm” He places his hand firmly, but kindly, on Norm's shoulder “You belong here now. And not just to the Omatikaya. You're one of the people now.”
He looks at her again. The smile. The way the light outlines her profile. She spins with Saeyla, laughing, her eyes bright… and for a second, as if she feels his gaze, she stops.
Her eyes meet his and she smiles at him.
A smile that makes his heart skip a beat.
“You just have to have more confidence” Jake says.
Confidence.
Exactly what Norm always seemed to need but never find.

For The Science - [Norm Spellman x Omatikaya! reader (Ninat)] - Chapter 2
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 1,2k
Ninat runs toward the camp with a huge smile on her face. Eywa, she could only hope that Mo'at would allow her to teach Norm the ways of the people. She wanted to teach him, to repay his kindness, and besides, a small part of her hoped that by spending time with her, he might begin to feel for her what she felt for him. Just like Neytiri and Jake. Well, perhaps a larger part of her than she should, but how could she help it? He was just so... him.
“Mo'at” Ninat calls as she enters the tent.
“Ninat” Mo'at smiles when she sees her and stops to look at her for a moment. “You look so different.”
“I do?” Ninat asks, confused, looking at herself for changes.
“Yes, but it's good, Mo'at assures her with a gentle smile.
“Thank you” Ninat smiles. “I wanted to ask for permission.”
“Permission?” Mo'at raises a curious eyebrow.
“I would like to teach the ways of the people to an avatar.”
“An avatar?” Mo'at questions, and Ninat nods hesitantly.
“Just like Neytiri taught Jake.”
Mo'at's eyes widen slightly at the precession. “Is this avatar the friend of Jake's you've been looking for a few weeks ago?
“Y-yes” Ninat affirms, unsure of how Mo'at knows this.
Mo'at nods, studying Ninat closely. She was different, shining as brightly as or even more than before all this happened. Was this man responsible? Was he the source of all her happiness?
“If you think he is worthy, teach him.”
Ninat exhales a breath she hadn't realized she was holding and smiles brightly.
“Thank you, Tsahík.”
Mo'at watches fondly as Ninat runs outside. Ninat had always been a bright child, asking questions that even Tsahík couldn't answer, and Mo'at thought of her as a daughter. If that child thought this man was worthy, Mo'at would believe her.
___
“Norm!” Ninat calls out, waving as she runs toward him.
Norm had just finished training with other avatars and smiles when he sees Ninat approaching. He raises his hand to wave, but chokes on Moran's comment.
“Here comes your girlfriend.”
“What? She doesn't—”
“She's coming, let's go” he says, putting his hand on Norm's shoulder and starting to walk away with the others. Eric gives him a “good luck.”
“Ninat” Norm says, trying to ignore the previous comments.
“I can teach you.”
“Teach me?”
Ninat nods. “The way of the people.”
“W-what?”
“I can teach you the way of the people, just as Neytiri taught Jake. Tsahík has approved.”
Norm gasps, still unable to believe what Ninat is proposing, an opportunity he thought he would never have in his life.
“B-but why?”
“W-well” Ninat didn't really have an answer. Actually, she did, but she couldn't just tell him that it was because she was terribly and hopelessly in love with him and wanted to do everything in her power to make him happy.
“For the science!”
“For the science?” He asks, confused.
“Yes! You said you wanted to learn and study about the Na'vi. If I teach you, you'll be able to do science with that, right?”
“Right” Norm smiles, his heart aching a little because he secretly wanted another answer.
And so Norman began to learn about the ways of the people with Ninat.
The first step was to dress like a native. Ninat laughed at his apparent discomfort, although she had to admit that she blushed when she saw him like that because she wasn't used to seeing so much of his body.
The language was easy, just a slight accent to correct here and there. Norm had studied hard, and it was certainly noticeable during his training.
Throughout his academic career, Norm had never had anyone to share it with, he had no idea it would be so fulfilling.
Ninat never scolded him when he made a mistake, sometimes she would call him skxawng or laugh, but then she would gently correct him, never letting him feel humiliated by his mistake.
When he succeeded, whether it was shooting an arrow or riding a pa'li, she celebrated with him, making him feel recognized. He had never thought that anyone would find him worthy of learning the ways of the people, but here was Ninat, the woman who made his whole being vibrate with just a smile, proving him wrong.
Ninat smiles as she approaches Norm.
“Here,” she says, adjusting his position with the bow, but as she does so, she accidentally feels the muscles of his back against her and blushes deeply. She tries not to look affected, unaware that Norm was also having difficulty concentrating on the exercise and not on how Ninat's hands on his skin made his skin tingle.

Taking a deep breath, Norm releases the arrow, successfully hitting the fish. Ninat smiles and congratulates him, and he can't help but think about how he would fight a palulukan for that smile.
“Norm” Ninat calls, pulling him out of his thoughts and making him realize that as they walked, they were already near the laboratory. “This is for you” she says, handing him a beautifully braided armband with beads and feathers. “You've been doing so well in training, and I wanted to reward you.”
Norm is speechless as he hesitantly takes the gift, looking at it fondly, trying to take in all the little details.
“Well, good night” she says, rushing off and leaving Norm perplexed.
She didn’t want to leave like that, but she couldn’t stand the pace at which her heart was beating anxiously, wondering if he liked the gift. Later that night, she would regret her decision even more when she found herself unable to sleep, not knowing what he thought of the gift.
Norm stood for a few minutes where Ninat had left him, still trying to understand the situation. Honestly, he couldn't remember the last time someone had given him a gift, and of course, it being Ninat made it all the more special. He knew he should leave the avatar, his human body also needed to eat and rest, but he couldn't help staying a few hours longer than he should have, staring at the bracelet on his arm.
___
“Do you think she likes him?” Jake asks Neytiri as he watches the two walk through the camp together in excited conversation.
“He is her type” Neytiri states simply, leaving Jake confused.
___
“You know you’re going to have to tell him that you were the ‘angel’ who saved him, right?” Ninat asks.
“He'll forget about it soon” Saeyla says.
“It's been six months since the battle and his accident, and he continues to proclaim that she is the woman he wants to make his mate.”
Saeyla laughs dryly. “He says that because he doesn't know that woman is me. If he knew, his angel would turn into a demon.”
She pauses before speaking again. “So when were you planning to tell me about Norm?”
“N-Norm?” Ninat stammers.
“Yes! Do you think I didn't see you around the village, all smiley and in love?”
“N-no, it's not like that, Saeyla.”
“Maybe I'll tell Tsu'tey that I'm his demon when you mate with Norm.”
“Saeyla!” Ninat exclaims, blushing deeply.
“Ninat, even Mo'at is happy for you. I'm sure that if Tsahík approves, the rest of the people will too.”
“If only that were the problem...”

For The Science - [Norm Spellman x Omatikaya! reader (Ninat)] - Chapter 1
Masterlist
Series Masterlist/Summary
Word Count: 2,4k
This story is the first in a series that is interconnected, so the couple Ninat and Norm will appear and be mentioned in the other parts. Ninat corresponds to Y/n. I used Ninat as Y/n's Na'vi name, although the character has no physical description... except perhaps that she is blue
___
Ninat was one of the clan's prominent members, a skilled hunter, healer, and one of Neytiri's best friends. They grew up close because Mo'at believed Ninat was a good influence for Neytiri, as even with her naturally curious spirit, she had a strong tendency toward something very important: family.
Although she was an only child, Ninat's parents always instilled in her the importance of family, and it was clear to everyone how this was reflected in their daughter's character. Ninat grew up as a kind and maternal but stubborn child. She was always eager to learn, one of the reasons Mo'at liked her so much, but her fascination with learning led her to ask far-fetched questions to which adults either had no answer or whose answers did not satisfy her.
As she excelled in her studies, many parents began to suggest her as a mate for their children and even tried to make arrangements with Ninat's parents, but fortunately these were always rejected. Both of Ninat's parents believed that the essence of family that they had passed on to their daughter could only exist if there was genuine love, and so they encouraged their daughter to choose someone she loved.
___
Sitting on a tree trunk, small Na'vi children aged 8 to 10 chat.
Ninat, Neytiri, Saeyla (oc), and Sylwanin eat fruit while Tsu'tey sharpens his dagger.
“No one?” Neytiri asks in shock.
Ninat shakes her head.
“Really, no one?!?” Saeyla repeats in amazement.
Ninat shakes her head again, this time more vigorously.
“But there were so many good matches. Why don’t your parents want to make an arrangement?” Sylwanin asks.
“My parents believe that I should find someone I truly love” Ninat proclaims proudly.
“But you can also find someone you truly love in an arrangement, you know? Right, Tsu'tey?” Sylwanin says with a smile, looking at him.
Tsu'tey blushes, flattening his ears against his head in embarrassment and letting out a small “yes.”
“Tsu'tey got embarrassed!” Saeyla points out, laughing.
“No, I didn't!”
“You totally did!”
“GAH!” Tsu'tey shouts, dropping his dagger and running after Saeyla.
“There they go again,” Neytiri comments with a roll of her eyes as the pair begin running circles around the group.
Trying to return to the previous subject, Neytiri asks, “But if no one in the clan is to your liking, then what is your type?”
“My type?” Ninat stops and thinks, “I think it's... someone who knows how to answer my questions!”
Saeyla suddenly stops, causing Tsu'tey to crash into her and throw them both to the ground. Quickly getting up, Saeyla exclaims, “But not even the adults are able to answer your questions!”
“And when did you hear me say I wanted one of them?”
Tsu'tey leans on the tree trunk, still recovering from the chase and fall. “If you're that picky, he'll have to be from another planet to meet your requirements.”
“There aren't many! Just one! Someone who knows how to answer my questions! I want someone who can teach me things that no one else can.”
“Now there are two,” Tsu'tey whispered to Saeyla, but it was audible to everyone.
Saeyla agrees, nodding her head and maintaining the serious expression Ninat usually has when she thinks about her theories.
“What will you do if you don't find anyone like that?”
“That means I won't find love and therefore I'll be alone.”
“That's not something you can define so easily,” comments Sylwanin.
Neytiri agrees, “Yes, didn't you want to be a mother?”
“I do, but I don't want to raise children with someone I don't love. Besides, I can always adopt.”
“Ninat, children without parents aren't that common,” comments Sylwanin.
“Someone who can answer her questions is even rarer,” comments Saeyla, and Tsu'tey echoes Saeyla's previous reaction, nodding his head and maintaining a serious expression.
___
When Ninat was 17, Grace opened a school, and Ninat was by far the most enthusiastic young student. She mastered English perfectly and before everyone else, but unfortunately that was all she could learn. Ninat's parents fell ill not long after the school opened, and although they insisted that Ninat go to learn, she always told them that she would have time once they got better.
They didn't.
Still mourning her parents, Ninat receives news of Sylwanin's death. With so many deaths around her and the school closed, Ninat finds her refuge and place in the clan by caring for the children.
Her closest friends, Neytiri, Tsu'tey, and Saeyla, were concerned, as Ninat had lost some of her sparkle. Her questions and far-fetched theories were no longer heard by the village, she was no longer seen making strange mixtures of herbs or drawing different animals, it seemed that this part of her was gone, but her love for children remained strong and could be seen daily in her care for them.
The group would have interfered more to help Ninat, but nothing was the same anymore. Sylwanin, of course, was no longer present, Tsu'tey was heartbroken, in a new arrangement and in constant arguments with Saeyla, his best friend (although they had recently improved). Neytiri now found herself with the burden of being the future Tsahík, and Saeyla... Ninat wasn't sure what was going on in her head, but she realized that she was also dealing with a lot more than just constant arguments with Tsu'tey.
As the war with the humans raged on, Neytiri brought Jake to the people, and surprisingly, the Olo'eyktan agreed to teach him the ways of the people.
However, it was only after the war with the humans ended and they were sent back to Earth that her life took a turn that she no longer expected.
___
It was nighttime when Ninat sat near the camp that the Omatikaya had set up near Hell's Gate. There was much to do, many Na'vi were still wounded, one of them being Tsu'tey. Fortunately, Mo'at allowed some of the scientists who had stayed behind to help, and it seemed to be working. Now these humans and avatars were walking around the camp. Ninat had helped a little to treat the wounded, although now that the war had left so many orphans, her work with the children extended far beyond caring for them while their parents carried out their tasks.
Ninat feels the gentle night breeze, voices could be heard near the campfire, which she was not far from. She gently runs her fingers through the petals of a flower that glows in the dark and sighs.
“How do you glow so much?
“It’s because of the type of luciferin.”
“W-what?” Ninat asks, turning abruptly toward the voice.
Looking at the man, Ninat doesn’t remember seeing him in the village, so he’s most likely an avatar. As if the clothes he wore weren't enough of a clue, she discreetly counts the fingers holding a box to be sure. Faced with the young Na'vi's silence, the Avatar swallows uncomfortably, realizing that the question was probably not meant to be answered, and steps back a little, ready to leave.
“I'm sorry, this obviously doesn't interest you.”
Seeing him begin to back away, Ninat panics.
“N-no! I want to hear it!” She shouts, standing up and grabbing him by the arm, preventing him from leaving.
The man looks visibly nervous, and noticing his hesitation, Ninat asks gently.
“Please tell me why they glow so much”.
Still a little hesitant, he nods and begins to explain.
“Their glow is called bioluminescence, and for it to occur, the presence of a substance called luciferin is essential. It can vary in form and composition. Those found in Pandora's plants and animals are extremely reactive, which makes bioluminescence on Pandora so strong and common."
Ninat feels her heart racing, her eyes scanning the face of the avatar in front of her, waiting for a sign that what he just said was a lie, but when she finds nothing, she thinks.
“So I have luciferin in the glowing spots on my face?”
Seeing him nod, Ninat realizes she is still holding him and finally lets go. Awkwardly, she brings her hand to the spots on her face, feeling them. Ninat looks again at the Avatar in front of her, this time with a new gaze, absorbing all the small details and still trying to understand that the Avatar in front of her really answered her question. Only when he looks away does Ninat realize that she was staring too much, looking around, her eyes resting again on the flower.
“And how do plants feed on the sun?”
He seems surprised by her question.
“It's called photosynthesis... it's a little complex-”
“Please explain it to me!”
This time, the Avatar, whom Ninat learned was named Norm, let a small smile grace his face and sat down next to Ninat, setting down the box and beginning his explanation.
Ninat hadn't felt this happy in over two years, maybe ever. The feeling of all her questions being answered so simply was fascinating, and she found herself immersed in that conversation all night long.
She had to admit that when she said ten years ago that her type was a man who could answer her questions, she didn't expect something like this, but judging by the way her heart was beating wildly and she found herself unable to stop smiling, she thought she shouldn't have questioned the wisdom of her eight-year-old self.
This was definitely her type.
And that night was only the first of many.
___
“Neytiri! Jake!”
Neytiri and Jake turned to her, and Neytiri was surprised by her friend's energy.
“Ninat! It's so good to see you!”
“Have you seen Norm?”
“Norm?” Jake asks, wondering if there was anyone in the clan with that name or if she was really looking for the Norm he knew.
“Norm! Isn't he your friend?” She asks, confused.
“Oh, yes, Norm... I think he's in the avatar room getting a checkup.”
“Thank you,” Ninat said before disappearing as quickly as she had appeared.
“I didn't know she knew him,” Neytiri said, expecting Jake to explain how they knew each other, but Jake was as confused as she was.
“Neither did I.”
___
“Norm, I've been thinking, what if—”
Ninat stops in surprise when she sees Norm's avatar in a glass tube. “Is this what a checkup means?” she thinks.
“Ninat?” Norm's voice calls out and a human appears.
Ninat stops for a second, tilting her head in confusion, but as soon as she realizes the similarities, she smiles and crouches down to Norm's level.
“I've been thinking, those enzymes you told me about...”
Norm sighs, laughing with relief that Ninat wasn't bothered by the difference between his avatar and human forms.
“Actually, Eric is working with enzymes right now. If you want, I can ask him to show you.”
“Yes! Please!”
Norm laughs, handing her an oxygen mask and taking her to where Eric is working. Norm watches as his colleague tries to explain to Ninat what he is doing when Moran, along with a few other scientists who have begun to gather to observe Ninat, catches his attention.
“Who is she?” one of them asks.
“Her name is Ninat,” Norm explains.
“What is she doing?” asks another, confused.
“Learning about enzymes,” he replies simply.
They all look at each other, then at Ninat, then back at Norm and each other, until Moran laughs and exclaims.
“I don't think I've ever seen a Na'vi really interested in what we have here!”
“Eh... she's...”
Norm pauses to think of the right word, sighing with a smile when Ninat gives him a quick glance, smiling and making Norm's heart race.
“Curious.”
“She definitely is!” Moran laughs, patting Norm on the back.
___
Ninat laughs, sitting in a tree with Norm as he tells her about his and Jake's arrival on Pandora.
“I swear, one moment we had lost him and we were sure it would be the end of him, and then he just wakes up from the link and says he's in the Omatikaya village and he's going to learn the ways of the people! It was unbelievable!”
Ninat laughs. “You should have seen Neytiri's face when Eytukan said she was going to teach Jake! She looked like a child who had been grounded.”
Norm laughs before smiling and sighing.
“But the truth is, he was very lucky.”
“Lucky?” Ninat asks, confused.
“Well, I studied for years, coming to Pandora and learning was my dream since... well, forever! He was just lucky to be compatible with his brother's avatar, and when he got here, he was lucky not to die and to be accepted by you guys.”
She notices Norm's nostalgic and dejected look, and her heart aches to see him like this. She just wanted to erase that sad look from his expression. Suddenly Ninat gasps, making Norm look at her.
“I have an idea!”
“What idea?” he asks, confused.
Ninat shakes her head. “I have to go! See you later,” she smiles as she runs off.
Norm remains seated where he was, watching Ninat until she is out of sight. When she disappears, he leans back, sighing with a silly smile.
Norm was never the type to attract women's attention. Since he was a child, all he did was study so he could come to Pandora. Few girls were interested in the same things he was, and when they were, he was simply too much like... him. So he went through life without any experience in love. Although he had had small crushes on girls in his class when he was younger, none of that could have prepared him for the overwhelming feeling Ninat provoked in him.
She never seemed to care that he was just an avatar, and when she saw him in his human body, she didn't even flinch. It was as if his form didn't matter to her. She was never bored by what he said. In fact, she was always fascinated and loved to hear everything he had to share. Thinking about how much she loved to learn and shared that with him made his heart swell.
He knew he shouldn't let himself be overwhelmed after all, he was still him. Although he loved sharing all his scientific knowledge with Ninat, deep down he wanted her to seek him out for more than just that reason. But he was still him, an avatar, an alien, from the race that destroyed his home and killed many of his friends, someone she would never see herself with.
Norm knew this from the beginning, but that didn't mean it hurt any less.

___
Kaminari hated that Jirou had shown up, he hated that Y/n had left, even if it was just to go to the bathroom. The movie plays on the screen and his eyes are glued to it, not really paying attention to the movie but counting the time passing.
One minute, two minutes, three minutes...
His eyes were on the screen, but his alpha was on the surface of his skin. He just wanted to hear the door open, to smell her scent filling the air.
His gaze momentarily shifts to the door. There was still no sign of her. But only a few minutes had passed, and he knew that she usually took longer than him to go to the restroom. But how much longer? He tries to estimate based on other times she went to the bathroom and he waited, but those times he didn't exactly count the time. And then there was the walk back and forth to the restroom. Had they passed one on the way to the movie theater? He didn't remember seeing any... what if she got lost? What if she couldn't find the restroom or forgot the movie theater number?
Jiro shifts in her seat, moving slightly closer to him.
Four minutes, five minutes, six minutes...
He shifts position slightly, trying to discreetly move away a little. Jirou is sitting there, between him and the place where Y/n had been.
Why?
The question comes to him without warning, insistent.
Why did she come?
He remembers perfectly well telling her no. He remembers telling her she wasn't supposed to come. He hadn't been rude. He hadn't been aggressive. He had been clear... or at least, he thought he had been. How could she not understand? Did she really not understand?
Jirou was his friend. She always had been. That complicates everything. Because if it were any other omega, anyone else, he wouldn't be sitting there wondering. He could have assumed malicious intent. It would have been simple.
But Jirou was never simple.
He swallows hard and tries to analyze it coldly. Maybe she thought she was helping. Maybe she had misinterpreted everything.
Maybe it was his fault.
The thought leaves a bitter taste in his mouth.
He doesn't want to be rude to her when she probably thought there was no problem or was somehow helping. But he doesn't want this either. He didn't want her there, at that moment, at their moment.
Her scent invades his space again. Not strong, but too present, and the alpha inside him stirs, restless.
He doesn't like it.
He doesn't like it at all.
Kaminari feels electricity stirring under his skin, small involuntary shocks running through his arms. He clenches his fists and forces himself to take a deep breath.
But the alpha in him wasn't interested in logic.
All he cared about was that she wasn't there. His omega wasn't with him.
Everything should be fine, they've been apart before. Every day they had separate classes. So why did everything in him scream that something wasn't right? For him to get up and look for his omega?
Kaminari looks back at the screen. It must have been 10 minutes already...
He suddenly gets up, unable to take it anymore. He would just wait for her at the bathroom door. That would calm his inner alpha.
Jiro looks at him and a lie instantly escapes the alpha's lips.
“I'm going to buy a bottle of water.”
He doesn't know why he did it, it was involuntary, but he had no interest in worrying about it now.
Y/n.
He wanted to find her.
He needed to find her.
As soon as the door closes behind him, it is as if he has crossed a portal to another world and not just a simple door. The air around him changes, a scent hits him and he recognises it instinctively.
Anguish.
Fear.
Y/n.
Her familiar sweetness, but distorted, torn, contaminated by fear and panic. Kaminari's chest tightens violently and the alpha inside him explodes, furious, fully awake as if his suspicions had finally been confirmed.
Something was wrong. Very wrong.
And then he hears it.
A cry of pain, and his alpha breaks. She was hurt.
That thought instinctively pushes him forward. He thinks of nothing else, he doesn't evaluate, he doesn't hesitate. The hallway seems too long and the floor too far beneath his feet.
He no longer cares about trying to remember the way to the restrooms; he didn't need to, he just needed to follow her scent to find her.
He hears a low sob and realizes she is close. The sound is like a direct shock to his nervous system.
His heart skips a beat when he turns the corner and finally sees her. There she was, his sweet omega pinned against the wall.
An alpha in front of her, too close, invasive. His hand dug into her arm hard enough to leave marks. Y/n's face is wet with tears and her body is shaking.
“My alpha is Denki!”
The words come out of her trembling mouth in a desperate but firm tone that hits him like lightning. As if she were angry, even offended that they could consider another option.
The world slows down and the alpha inside him roars, triumphant, possessive, absolute.
That was his omega.
The other alpha opens his mouth, clearly ready to laugh, argue, or say something, but freezes when Kaminari's hand closes around his shoulder with brutal force, fingers digging in like steel.
“I think you should let her go” He says with a squeeze on the unknown alpha's shoulder and a smile that was anything but friendly.
The alpha turns back angrily, an expression of annoyance stamped on his face. He opens his mouth to say something, but the words never leave his mouth, the only thing that comes out is a sharp cry as a wave of electricity runs through him.
It's not an accidental shock. It's not a mild discharge either.
It's intentional.
Violent.
The alpha's cry is loud, his body shakes as electricity runs through him, forcing him to let go of Y/n and stumble backward, moving away from her as if he had been burned. Or electrocuted.
Y/n's legs give way the moment the alpha lets go of her, but before she can fall, Kaminari catches her.
He pulls her close to his chest, his strong arms holding her as if she were the only real thing in that hallway. Her body instinctively fits into his, as if she knows exactly where she belongs. In him.
The alpha now sitting on the floor looks at him with terrified eyes. Only then does he seem to smell the scent in the air that hits him like a wall.
Warm sandalwood, sweet and electric, charged with authority and contained fury. There is no doubt there. There is no hesitation. It is the scent of an alpha at the height of control... and on the verge of losing it. Not just any alpha, but an alpha clearly much stronger than him.
“A-alpha,” she sobs, burying her face in his shirt, her fingers clinging to him as if afraid he will disappear.
The sound destroys him.
Kaminari rocks her, in a gentle motion that contrasts violently with the fury still vibrating beneath his skin. He lowers his face and presses his nose against her neck, right over her scent gland, breathing deeply as he rubs his nose against her, spreading his scent on her and eliminating any trace of the other alpha's scent.
“It's okay, omega,” he murmurs, his voice finally breaking a little with the pain that builds up in his chest. “I'm right here.”
Her sobs slow down and the alpha inside him finally begins to calm down. She was safe. She was in his arms, where she belonged. After all, he was her alpha, she had said so.
“Y/n?” He calls in a soft tone and she raises her tearful eyes to meet his gaze. “Please be my omega.”
Kaminari can't help but smile at her reaction. Her eyes widen and her cheeks turn bright red. She opens her mouth and closes it several times as if searching for words, but surprisingly, he doesn't feel nervous or afraid of rejection, not with her in his arms. She always had this effect on him, made him feel safe.
After a few seconds of hesitation, she seems to give up trying to force words out of her mouth. Biting her lip to hold back the smile that spreads across her face, she nods positively. A quick and enthusiastic movement.
It was that feeling, belonging. She was his and he was hers.
Kaminari gently supports her against the wall so she doesn't fall, his hands leaving her waist and moving to gently hold her cheeks.
His hands were warm against her skin and she leaned into them, feeling her body relax and a satisfied sigh escape her lips. He held her so gently and tenderly, and his gaze reflected pure adoration.
His thumb gently caressed her skin, wiping away a few stray tears, and he drew her gaze back to him.
“I love you.”
Perhaps before, this words might have surprised her, but at that moment she couldn't imagine how she had ever doubted such a truth.
She wanted to respond, to tell him that she loved him too, but the way he closed the distance between them and kissed her told her that he already knew.
