A half eaten sandwich hangs out of his hand. Evidence of theft trails behind him: torn bread sitting among crumbs, cutting board, knife still stuck in the meat.
"Fuckin' starving." Free hand points to the closet behind her. "Got any beer?"
for a moment amos simply exists. all of his muscles go still so he can take in the sights and sounds of the bar around him. he half wonders who gave the lady a head's up he'd walked out of his room. chiara. chiara? given the description she had to be talking about the pozza d'acqua place that felt like it took money just for walking by the damn door. no way he could ever afford that nor, honestly, would he want to.
out of sight out of mind.
the smart bet would be asking why. why him. why now. why a lot of tactical questions but since his stomach growled again and he'd bet on himself if it really was some kind of set up. " sure. " he says with about as much enthusiasm as he's said everything else. a meal was a meal. " but i probably can't afford whatever you're sellin it for. i sure as hell can't afford to step into the place on a normal day. doubt i can even come close on a private business. people kinda assume since they know holden's name we must be rollin' in it but, honestly, it costs a lot of money to be knee deep in shit all the time. " at least they hadn't had to pay fred for most of the repairs done to the roci. "
She watches, with open interest, as he quiets, as he turns his attention to their surroundings for a moment. She can't help but wish she knew more about him, to get a better read on what was going on behind that gaze. Her head tilts towards her a shoulder for a moment as he speaks, the smallest furrow dipping between her brows as she contemplates the conclusion he's drawn from their conversation so far.
"Oh, I have no interest in your money, Mr. Burton." That much, at least, was a definitive truth. A half smile, and she takes another sip of her whiskey. "And I could give, for the most part, a rat's ass about James Holden and the exploits of the Rocinante." That was, mostly true. The higher ups in her corporation had their own reasons for being concerned about the trouble brewing in the galaxy, but as far as she was concerned, Holden and all his ... shit, as Amos had put it, was good for business.
"I enjoy the company of men - and women - who can indulge their vices, and mine, not because they can buy my time and effort, but because it brings them pleasure." She reaches for her hand terminal, swiping a small data packet in his direction with the location of her suite on the station. "Indulge me?"

"Ms. Nagata, I can assure you that discretion is a vital part of any transaction that the Outer Fringe Exports handles -- and as much as we welcome your business, I must admit, at the potential risk of a hefty commission, why is it that you chose us to handle this particular transaction?" Fingers flicked through the information that Naomi had provided for the ship that she wished to purchase, seeing nothing off hand that would raise any red flags. "It seems a fairly straight forward purchase."
" mmm, " quinn finds himself a little agitated merely because this particular bounty was more trouble than it was worth. unfortunately, sometimes you needed to take the smaller scores to keep you floating until the next big one came along. then again, this one was also legal, which meant he had to play by the book.
as a general rule, quinn took whatever fell within his moral compass. legal, not legal, whatever. but there was a very fine line on things he found acceptable and what he did not. he also mentally reserved the right to fuck people over if he found out they were lying about the job at any point. those were fun. it was always interesting to see what people thought they could get away with.
plopping down into a seat, boots kick up and onto the edge of chiara's desk. hands fold neatly over his abdomen. honestly, it's comfortable enough that he could power nap but he knew better than to close his eyes that long around the woman in front of him.
" business first, " quinn twists so he can pull his hand terminal out of his coveralls. several flicks of his fingers and the image of a ship is pulled up. " turned out the guy was lying about his girlfriend so i took his racer as compensation. i was wondering if there was anything on it you'd be able to sell or interested in trying to sell. "
"Mm, bad manners, but good answer," she replied with a smirk, even as she flicks a finger against his feet as a small encouragement for him to get his mag boots off of her antique mahogany desk - one of the few luxury items she had in her office rather than at her suite on station. Most of the room was relatively spartan, but she hadn't been able to resist the deal on the desk and chair when they'd come up on auction, and it didn't hurt to have a touch of opulence dripping when she had to hold meetings with clients, or employers, face to face.
"Not a bad skiff," Chiara mused, a finger flicking to snag the detail from his hand terminal to her internal hud, skimming through the schematics and title in quick succession. "Something like this, though, you'd bank more stripping it for parts. High demand for these kind of parts with the hot rod racers, but most of them wouldn't use a prefab build like this." Lips purse, briefly. "Anything that can't be piece mealed can be melted and scrapped, here of all places is as good as any to pull it apart so -- I can offer you a flat rate, or I can cull it and take my usual commission rate. First is faster, second might rate you more long term."

"Easy, now, friend." When one of her contacts from the station had told her they'd found an interesting piece of salvage that she might like ... this? Definitely not what she'd been expecting. It had taken time and a fair bit of effort to bandage up the worst of the external injuries, and to figure out exactly what needed to be done to jump start ... his entire system into consciousness. Nearly more machine than human, that was something she hadn't seen before, and that wasn't something she said often. "You're safe here, and I don't particularly want to see which of us would win in a knock down drag out, so why don't you just take a minute and breathe, okay?" She had sent everyone else home from the shipping dock that served as her black market's base of operations, just to be on the safe side. She didn't need any prying eyes on whatever might happen here, and there wasn't anything pending that was so pressing she couldn't afford to let them have a night off.

hale tended to be playful with the people who had a special place in his heart. as much as chiara absolutely terrified him, he also appreciated their time together. the bartender loved the talking, loved picking her brain, the fun they had, and the food. among other things, of course.
so, naturally, one of the first things he does is straighten to his full height and tell her to climb up for a kiss.
" awe, babe, " the grin doesn't go anywhere even though he really does feel bad she had a shitty day. instead, hale places a hand on her shoulder and lets it slide down with his movement down to his knees. by the time he's settled both hands are on chiara's hips. " this better? "
"Hmmph," escapes from her, her expression still teetering on annoyed, especially since even on his knees she still would only have to lean down a little to give him a kiss. "I suppose it will do," she half grumbled, fingers drawn to scrape through his hair as she finally conceded to leaning in to give him a light, almost peck of a kiss. "At least there's one man on this station that doesn't feel the need to argue every time I tell them to do something," she conceded, fingers intertwining behind the nape of his neck, thumb tracing random patterns along the line of his jaw.

"Well, if it isn't the very man of the hour," Chiara said, glancing up to the Belter that had appeared at the bar, after having been greeted with many cheers and accolades from the locals of the station that had been all too happy to cheer him in. "Detective Miller, can I buy you a drink, or is your dance card for the evening already full?"
chiara is 5'3". she hates being short. she averages 5'4" in day to day wear with the pumps or slight platform boots or magboots that she wears. when dressing up she'll wear 2-4" heels depending on the outfit and what looks best.
she comes in at a solid 150 ish lbs bc of her extra bone density & muscle mass etc. she's got a fit and athletic build, she's toned and lean with some muscle definition but nothing that would immediately have someone expecting that she can kick their ass in a fight especially given her height. she likes to use this to her advantage. (see headcanon about her mods etc.)

chiara is not given to having long lasting romantic relationships as a general rule (thus far). she has yet to meet anyone that invokes the kind of emotional response in her that would make her willing to trust them with all of the aspects of her life, and that's pretty much her ... standard, i guess you could say, the bar that she looks at. if she can't trust them to keep her secrets, can she trust them with her heart. not that she's really given to needing or wanting romance per se, but the few times that she might have considered it, she found the other person lacking in one way or another.
she is a hundred percent fine with flings, friend or enemies with benefits, casual hookups, bang out the frustrations of the day hookups, etc. sex itself is a great physical stress reliever and an usually enjoyable all around experience. she also has zero problem paying for it, in brothels or hiring an escort to be her date somewhere or anything like that, it can sometimes be much simpler.
hard and fast or slow and indulgent, quickie or marathon, one person or multiple partners, she enjoys it all, though what she's in the mood for tends to vary based on her mood and the day she's had. she's also pretty adventurous when it comes to exploring k*nks, she does have a tendency to be more dom / power bottom more than anything else in that particular setting.
casual dating is fine, but she isn't given to monogamous or long term relationships on the whole.
having been born and raised on mars, and having served in the martian military for ten years, the first half of chiara's life was somewhat spartan. while she was lucky enough to be born into a family that was on the lower edges of upper class so she never really went without, life on mars came with the overwhelming pressure to put the good of everyone else and future generations over the personal wants and desires and luxuries. and while some of her peers were in the wealthy enough that they could do both tier of the upper crust, chiara's family was just barely on that cusp of rich that lended itself to 'luxury' but just a taste of it. just enough for her to have a certain bitterness that she never quite got over, a certain envy of those that could afford all the fine things in life and still be seen as doing their civic duty and not just come off as spoiled or wasteful, bc they could do both.
and the snobbery existed, as it tends to, especially among those that are first or second born generations of the wealthy and powerful - a lot of people her age were spoiled to the point of absurdity bc their parents worked their asses off for their money and wanted to make sure their kids had everything they wanted or needed, while the kids didn't have to really raise a finger for it, without any appreciation of the work that it took to get there.
so she holds a certain level of disdain for the elite, especially of those that are wealthy beyond imagining, where they have so much money that they could use a fraction of their wealth to help entire colonies or countries and not even miss that money in their lifetime. she has wealth, but it's at a level of personal comfort and luxury to whatever extent she might want and she's worked her ass off for it, in both fields that she works in.
some of this derision comes out in small ways in her restaurant where she creates these 'fancy' and 'elite' courses that the rich pay a fortune for that are just... foam, or reduction of some thing or another, and just so ridiculously wasteful and over priced but they literally eat it up bc it's 'only something they could afford'
that being said she does truly enjoy her work as the owner and head chef at her restaurant, but there is a certain degree of tongue in cheek and irritation that comes with dealing with the upper crust that sometimes just makes her want to toss someone out an airlock. that tongue in cheek can be seen even in the name, by the way - pozze d'acqua literally translating to 'water hole' ie, a watering hole.
allllll of that being said, she does very much have a hedonistic flair and she will absolutely pay top dollar for genuinely good luxury furniture, clothing, ingredients, spa treatments, medical care, skin and makeup and hair products etc. but you can also bet your ass she makes sure it's good quality and worth the money before she spends it. she also is an excellent tipper for good service, more so for great service, and even tips decently well on shitty service even if it annoys her bc everybody has a bad day now and then.
i'm THRIVING off these hcs for her. she seems like a great muse and A+ work. looking forward to more from her. we need more expanse oc's out here
This gave me life I just need you to know that. Thank you so much for sending this in, truly. I always get nervous about ocs in a fandom that has so many amazing canon characters but I wanted somebody that was more in the morally gray area than my solo side blogs here and not as dark as some of the characters on my mini multi side blog like Murtry or Marco, somebody that can interact with just about anybody in the fandom under one guise or another. I'm so happy that you like what you see so far and I hope she continued to please. Thank you, again, so much !!!
like all martians, chiara had the choice between military or domestic service to mars and chose military. she entered the corp at 18, was discharged at 28 with an honorable discharge. this was an additional tour of duty after her required years, mostly done for financial security than any sense of duty. she served as general administration and support staff, primarily as a 'supply chain specialist' ie, handling inventory - and yes, she did have a small black market private operation that she ran wherever she was stationed, just low key enough to keep her out of trouble. mostly. this did include traffic with non military personnel and gave her some contacts in the belt and on various stations that ended up landing her the initial job with ofe that has led to her current position as head of operations of the tycho branch.
chiara is in her fifties, however, thanks to the natural longevity of the human lifespan in the expanse plus all of her treatments to boost health & sturdiness etc. over the years + the fact that she can typically afford the best day to day care and upkeep, she looks to be in her late twenties / early thirties.

chiara has had a multitude of different treatments and mods over the last couple decades since she left the mcrn & mars behind. she did have several treatments during her service for the increased bone density and muscle mass in general, quite happy to do so on the military's dime. since then she's had a couple more rounds of similar treatment, to the point that she is more dense than an earth born human, with a body that is capable of enduring higher pressure from high g as well as giving her boosts to strength and speed bc of the boosts to overall performance and endurance of muscles, nerves, etc. she weighs more than her petite stature would imply bc of this as well.
she has had cybernetic implants that give her things like a hud / recorder / ability to zoom in and what not in her left eye, she also has internal microphone and speaker implants which allow her to conduct subvocal communications via a wireless transmitter implanted in her spinal column somewhere, as well as allows for her to use voice modulation software if needed, gives her ability to tune in to certain communication waves to eavesdrop or enhance natural hearing to eavesdrop on a specific conversation in person. she does have one of those ident spoofers, though like most of her internal hardware/software combos, it's dormant unless she activates it. she has a couple internal storage devices implanted as well where she keeps her most sensitive data and backups and her financial records / stock manifests and so forth.
she has chemical induction (something like what clarissa had but way more advanced and sleek) that can boost her adrenaline & releases other chemical boosters that increase speed, stamina and strength while reducing pain receptors for limited periods of time, with some detrimental side effects after but not to the point of vomiting or passing out, just things like body ache, tiredness, headache, dry throat, etc. not enough to incapacitate her, just generally annoying for her after the fact.
there were two empty shot glasses in front of him, a glass of water, and a beer. all the lights and sounds were a slight deviation from the room he'd just spent all his time in and it was taking a few minutes longer than he was used to in order to get acclimated.
sometimes it was easy to forget how long a day was because the light cycles to help circadian rhythm was subtle, especially in the brothel rooms. it wasn't until someone called him and said they needed to have a family chat on the roci that he'd realized he'd been gone for two days.
" why not? " amos leans forward to gulp down half the water before picking up the offered glass of whiskey. "people act like fuckin's some unnatural thing to be ashamed of. if you're not gonna have fun they why do it. "
his stomach chose that particular moment to growl. he'd felt it more than he heard it over the din of people so he threw back half the whiskey as if that was somehow going to prevent his stomach from growling again. " thanks for the drink but what d'you want? "
"Some." Chiara amended for him, with a smile as she took a sip of the whiskey from her glass. "Some people. Other people relish a man who can indulge in all of his vices without regret." Regret and shame were not elements of the human nature that she'd ever found much use for -- not when it came to herself, at least. Useful tools for manipulating others, when need be, but that was not the conversation at hand. "As for what I want? I want to cook for you." There's something of a self indulgent tint to the words.
"I spend my nights cooking for self entitled narcissists who pay more for a spritz of foam on their plates than most people on this station might make in a month's time because they can -- because they think it says something about themselves." A twitch of an eyebrow. "And it does. Just not what they think it does." She shrugs loosely, fingers interlocking around the glass as she watches him. "It'd be a nice change of pace to cook for someone who can ... fully appreciate everything I have to offer."
