The people closest to you usually want to encourage you. That's a wonderful thing, but it doesn't always tell you how a typical reader will experience your story.

A beta reader looks at your manuscript with fresh eyes. They'll tell you where they were hooked, where they got confused, what they loved, and what didn't quite work.

Support from family is valuable. Honest feedback is essential.
