Illustration of a passage from Seamus Heaneyβs (one of my mams favourite poets) translations of Beowulf. As a child Iβd had it read to me often enough, which like Heaney himself said is the way you should experience storyβs, theyβre to be heard not read. The passage is from the last days of Beowulf himself and describes the horde of a great and ancient warrior. Sometime ago this passage itself came back to me as thereβs a sample of it read by the man himself at the start of a song by Wayfarer and I made a mental note that one day Iβd try and illustrate it and this is that. If youβve never read the Heaneywulf definitely recommend it, some of the kenningβs in it are ridiculously good. Thanks to the people that pushed me into finishing it off after a year and a half
